Myers playing better under Ted Nolan | 11/30/2013 8:57 AM
NewsOne player who seems to be thriving under new coach Ted Nolan is Tyler Myers.
ImpactMyers led the Sabres in ice time against Toronto Friday night (24:10) and had his first two-point game of the season (two assists) in Buffalo's 3-2 overtime win. If you dropped Myers a while back, you may want to revisit that decision.
Tyler Myers scores in loss to Flyers | 11/21/2013 10:01 PM
NewsTyler Myers picked up his second goal of the season Thursday, but the Sabres ended up losing to Philadelphia by a score of 4-1.
ImpactThe power play marker was the lone Buffalo goal in the midst of another game in which they were badly outplayed. He seems to have responded well to the coaching change, but with such a weak supporting cast, he's a difficult player to trust moving forward.
Tyler Myers playing with more jump | 11/16/2013 9:23 AM
NewsOne player who certainly responded well to the Buffalo coaching and general manager change was Tyler Myers.
ImpactMyers, who has been in a two-year slide since a successful rookie campaign, looked terrific against Toronto Firday night. He registered an assist, had four hits, blocked two shots and smartly jumped into the offensive play a number of times. "It was definitely a lighter feeling. When a big change like that is made, it's normal for guys to come out like we did tonight," said Myers. "The most important thing moving forward is not losing that feeling, or losing that compete level. It's a consistency that we have to stick with." Myers may be a good buy low candidate right now.
Tyler Myers gets first goal of season | 11/03/2013 12:05 AM
NewsTyler Myers scored for Buffalo in its 6-3 loss to the Ducks on Saturday night.
ImpactIn the midst of a poor season from the Sabres and his own struggles, we point out this night from the promising youngster because he also had an even plus-minus. It was his first goal of the year. He might not show it this year in a very lousy situation, but Myers is still very talented and only 23 years old. Cody Hodgson scored and assisted, while Henrik Tallinder added the other goal. Matt Moulson chipped in with two helpers.
Tyler Myers is in a terrible funk already | 10/11/2013 6:07 AM
NewsTyler Myers has opened the season with no points and a minus-7 rating after five games.
ImpactMyers has picked up a minus plus-minus rating in each game so far and he's had two penalty minutes in every contest as well. It is early but it looks like he's going to continue to regress this year, which is what he's done since winning the Calder Trophy in 2009-10.
Tyler Myers in great shape at start of camp | 09/14/2013 6:14 AM
NewsTyler Myers is in great physical and mental shape as training camp opens.
ImpactMyers came into training camp last season in poor shape and never recovered and it also took its toll on his mental aspect of the game. "I'll be the first to say, that's not me as a player last year," Myers said. "I have to be much better, and it's just a matter of taking it day by day and focusing on improving each and every day, right up until that first game, and then continue at throughout the season." Myers had an outstanding rookie season in 2010 but has struggled mightily the last two seasons, culminating with only a three goal, eight point season in 2013. He should be one of the top sleeper picks this season as he has rededicated himself to the game and will have Henrik Tallinder as his defense partner. Myers played his best hockey with Tallinder helping out earlier in his career and the Sabres hope that history repeats itself in 2013-14. Look for a 35-45 point season from Myers.
Henrik Tallinder backs struggling Tyler Myers | 09/11/2013 4:37 PM
NewsHenrik Tallinder still has faith in Tyler Myers.
ImpactMyers has gone from one of the best young offensive defenseman in the league to an enigma within a couple seasons. He had just eight points and 32 penalty minutes in 39 games last season. "I think Tyler is an exceptional young man and player," Tallinder said. "When he came in his first year, I've never seen a guy that talented and that good at that age. Or very few of them, that I've played with at least. I think he's still young. I think you guys have been pretty hard on him too. He's going to be an exceptionally good player still. Just give him time. Let him play." Tallinder was Myers' defensive partner during the younger defenseman's 48-point rookie campaign, but Sabres coach Ron Rolston will keep them on different units for now.
Tyler Myers prepares to bounce back | 08/22/2013 6:04 PM
NewsTyler Myers doesn't like the way he played last season and he's anxious to rebound.
Impact"I think I'll be the first one to say I wasn't anywhere near where I should've been last year," he told the Sabres Hockey Hotline radio show on Thursday. Myers has rehabbed his injured leg and he's worked on strengthening his mental game as well during the off-season. He was also "very, very excited" to hear that the Sabres had brought back his old defense partner Henrik Tallinder. Tallinder and Myers were a duo when Myers won the Calder Trophy, so they could be reunited this campaign.
Tyler Myers eager to improve after tough year | 04/29/2013 10:08 AM
NewsTyler Myers knows he has to improve after regressing each year since he won the Calder Trophy in 2009-10.
Impact"It's only natural to hear things like that the way things have gone, especially this year," he said. "I'll be the first to admit I definitely need to turn things around, get back on that path to improving and working on the things that have made me successful. It's just a matter of working that much harder this off-season." Myers notched eight points and a minus-8 rating before his season came to an end when a hairline fracture was discovered in his left leg after he blocked a shot against Montreal on April 11. He wants to put his past conditioning issues behind him and train hard in the summer, so it could make for a more fit Tyler Myers next year.
Leg injury ends Tyler Myers' season | 04/12/2013 1:13 PM
NewsThe Buffalo Sabres announced that Tyler Myers broke a bone in his leg on Thursday, effectively ending his 2013 season.
ImpactThe towering defenseman has been a disappointment on the scale of his size at times in this campaign, but that's still a discouraging update. The Sabres didn't give a window of recovery beyond that vague season-ending label, so it's unclear how deep into the offseason (or even 2013-14 season) this might go.
Tyler Myers struggling in 2013 | 04/07/2013 12:22 PM
NewsTyler Myers has been a colossal disappointment for much of his fourth NHL season.
Olean Times Herald
ImpactThe former Calder Trophy winner has only four assists in the last 17 games, but Myers has played at least 23:59 in the last four games. "I think it's been night and day from the start of the season until now," Myers said about his play. "There's always room for improvement for any player. I feel I've really simplified my game. It's just a matter of jumping when . you see the opportunity." He shouldn't be counted on in yearly formats for the rest of the season.
Tyler Myers admits he wasn't in shape | 03/23/2013 8:57 AM
NewsTyler Myers admitted to being out of shape at the start of the season.
Impact"Yeah," Myers said. "I wanted more. It's something that had to be addressed. It has been addressed. But you know, I won't be making that mistake again." The promising blueliner was made a healthy scratch twice in February, and finally his game has started to come along, with a closer attention paid to the defensive end. Myers only has five points on the year, and really shouldn't be counted on in yearly formats for the rest of the season.
Tyler Myers scores GWG Tuesday vs. Tampa | 02/27/2013 11:04 AM
NewsTyler Myers netted the game-winning goal in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Tampa Bay.
Impact"It always feels good to score," Myers said. "It felt unbelievable to get the win after the way things have been going." He also picked up four minutes in penalties, but the Sabres bailed him out while going six for six on the penalty kill in the contest. Myers has three goals and one assist to go with a minus-6 rating in 18 games this campaign.
Tyler Myers' play much improved | 02/16/2013 10:45 AM
NewsTyler Myers, who had been a healthy scratch for two games this past week, played well in a 4-2 win over the Bruins Friday night.
ImpactHe scored an important goal, registered an assist and looked more comfortable at both ends of the ice in the victory. Myers has had a miserable season so far (one goal and a minus nine rating), however, Friday night's contest could be a turning point. "When he's skating and moving, he's a tough man to keep track of," said coach Lindy Ruff. "I thought his energy in the game was maybe as good as I've seen this year." Myers was also pleased with his effort. "There's a lot of good things to take from it," Myers said. "I think the most important thing is I continue, not let this be a one-game thing. A lot of it is confidence. It's coming back." We have a feeling the 6'8" defenseman will be a solid starter from here on in.
Tyler Myers back in the lineup Tuesday night | 02/12/2013 2:28 PM
NewsTyler Myers will return to the Buffalo Sabres' lineup Tuesday after being a healthy scratch the last two games.
ImpactSabres coach Lindy Ruff was sending a message to his young defenseman, who had a -9 rating on the season. Asked what Myers was supposed to learn from sitting out, Ruff quipped to the media, "It's an easy game from upstairs. Just ask all you guys." Myers hasn't lived up to expectations after a 48-point rookie season and has become a fantasy liability this season.
Tyler Myers is a healthy scratch again | 02/11/2013 9:45 AM
NewsTyler Myers spent his second straight game in the press box on Sunday.
ImpactSabres coach Lindy Ruff sent Myers a message by scratching him Saturday, but to keep him out of the lineup two games is particularly troubling. Myers is still very likely to be reinserted from Tuesday's contest.
Tyler Myers scratched in Saturday's game | 02/10/2013 11:50 AM
NewsThe Buffalo Sabres scratched Tyler Myers in Saturday's win against the lowly Islanders.
Official website of the Buffalo Sabres
ImpactMyers is a league-worst minus-nine in 11 games and has registered just one point this season. "I'm embarrassed, and I should be," said Myers after today's optional morning skate at the Nassau Coliseum. "Two years in a row now, it doesn't feel very good. But the silver lining, I responded the way I needed to last time and that's what I have to do this time." Myers hasn't lived up to expectations since his amazing 48-point rookie campaign and is unfortunately a fantasy liability.
Sabres to scratch Tyler Myers Saturday night | 02/09/2013 2:04 PM
NewsTyler Myers will sit Saturday as a healthy scratch.
John Vogl on Twitter
ImpactHe was skated hard at the end of the morning skate and will watch Buffalo's game against the Islanders from the press box. Myers has one goal and a minus-9 rating in 11 games this season. Andrej Sekera, who is returning from a bruised foot, will play in his place.
Tyler Myers could sit out Saturday's game | 02/02/2013 9:59 AM
NewsTyler Myers could be a scratch for Saturday afternoon's game against the Canadiens.
ImpactHe has struggled this season with only one point in seven contests. He, as well as his partner Jordan Leopold, have also been stung defensively. Either Myers or Leopold may be in the press box against the Habs to give T.J. Brennan a chance to dress. Adjust your roster accordingly.
Myers scores a power-play goal in opener | 01/21/2013 8:37 AM
NewsTyler Myers netted a power-play goal in Buffalo's 5-2 opening game win on Sunday.
ImpactMyers hasn't lived up to expectations since his amazing 48-point rookie campaign, but that should change in his fourth season. The Sabres are developing into a very competitive team and Myers got some work in Austria during the lockout, so he's less rusty than most. It wouldn't be surprising if he ended up with over 20 points in the shortened season.
Tyler Myers says his ankle is 'fine' | 01/10/2013 4:50 PM
NewsTyler Myers said his ankle feels fine after missing nearly a month with the injury while playing for the Austrian club Klagenfurter AC.
ImpactMyers was able to return to Klagenfurter AC's lineup just before leaving the team to rejoin the Sabres. "It's fine. I came back for the one game and it felt fine," Myers said. "I made sure it was ready to go before I came back. I'm feeling 100 percent. ... [The injury] got me a little nervous at the start. Once we figured out what it was, I knew it would be pretty quick. I didn't want to push it to try to come back too early in case the season came back."
Tyler Myers returns for farewell game in EBEL | 01/07/2013 12:55 PM
NewsTyler Myers returned to the lineup for Klagenfurter AC last Friday after missing nearly a month with an ankle injury.
ImpactHe scored the winning goal in the shootout in his last match with the organization. Myers put up 10 points, 37 penalty minutes and a minus-7 rating in 17 games with the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga in Austria during the lockout. He'll likely be checked over by the Sabres medical staff when training camps open to make sure everything is fine.
