Drew Doughty adds two assists Tuesday | 11/20/2013 9:56 AM
NewsDrew Doughty had two assists in a 5-2 victory Tuesday.
Los Angeles Times
ImpactDoughty has 12 points in 22 games, which ties him for 11th place among defensemen in the scoring race. He's not likely to compete with the likes of Erik Karlsson and P.K. Subban for first place in points among defensemen, but he's certainly capable of finishing the 2013-14 campaign in the top 10.

NewsDrew Doughty picked up an assist on Saturday and now has eight points in his last nine games.
ImpactDoughty got off to a slow start with only one point in his first eight games so if you had him early on, chances are you were panicking. But his recent hot streak has brought him back and he is now on pace for a 40-45 point season. Doughty is a top defenseman and should be starting in all pools at this time.

NewsDrew Doughty scored once and added a helper in the Kings victory over the San Jose Sharks.
Los Angeles Times
ImpactThe defenseman is off to a good start goal-wise as he has four in 14 games after picking up only six last season in 48 contests. Doughty has seven points this season and is logging plenty of minutes on the ice so he is in good form to make the Canadian Olympic team come February. He should be on someone's fantasy roster in all pools that require at least two defensemen.

NewsDrew Doughty ranks 10th in the NHL with an average of 25:16 minutes per game.
Los Angeles Times
ImpactAs impressive as that is, it's still actually about a minute less than Doughty was averaging last season. "We've tried to cut his minutes back," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. "It doesn't sound like much, by two or three a game, which should help his energy level. Trying to get him to be on the ice for fewer goals against." Sutter would also like to see Doughty improve in penalty killing situations.
Doughty scores in loss | 10/22/2013 2:56 AM

ImpactDoughty played on the bad ankle throughout the Western Conference Final and although he averaged 27:57 minutes per game, he was held off the scoresheet and was minus-six in the five game series. Drew Doughty leans on 2012 experiences | 06/08/2013 7:27 PM
NewsDrew Doughty will draw on the experience of winning the Stanley Cup last year as he gets ready for Game 5 of the Western Conference finals on Saturday.
ImpactChicago has a 3-1 series lead going into this contest, which is a situation the Kings never found themselves in last year. "Last year, even though we made it kind of look easy, it wasn't easy," Doughty said. "We just had a team that never quit, and that's the same with this playoffs. We were down two-nothing to St. Louis early, and we just didn't quit. That's our team motto, is we're going to be the hardest working team out there. We're going to compete to the very last whistle, and we're for sure we're going to do that tonight."
Doughty: Kings can win with two goals a game | 06/07/2013 10:34 AM
NewsDrew Doughty thinks the Los Angeles Kings can still win "easily" even if they just score two goals a game.
ImpactDoughty was asked the question, because the Kings actually have averaged just two goals per contest in the postseason. "It's enough if we're playing well defensively and doing the right things that way, but we haven't been, obviously," Doughty said. "We've been giving up too many goals. We've been relying on Quick to make too many big saves, and we're not playing the right way. We're not playing the way this team is capable of, and if we're only getting two goals, we can easily win.games with Quickie back there and our defensive team." As good as the Kings are defensively and as great a goaltender as Jonathan Quick is, they still need to pick things up offensively to stay alive against the Blackhawks.

NewsDrew Doughty was slow to get back to his feet after being tripped by Brian Bickell in the first period of Sunday's game.

NewsDrew Doughty does not like playing in The United Center.
Los Angeles Daily News
ImpactOr The Madhouse on Madison as it is otherwise known. The Chicago arena is awfully tough for visiting teams to play in and Doughty is no exception. "In order to win the series, we've got to steal one of these two games for sure," Doughty said before Game 1 Saturday. "Road games are always tough, especially in a rink like here in Chicago. The crowd is great. Tough rink to play in. It's not one of my favorites, that's for sure. It's going to be tough, but we've got to do it. That's for sure. I don't know. I just don't like it. Never had a good vibe, myself, not with our team or anything, just myself. Haven't had a good vibe in it. Pretty determined to change it." Game 2 will be played Sunday as The Rolling Stones will play to a sold-out crowd on Monday.
Drew Doughty looks for fast start from Kings | 06/01/2013 4:28 PM
NewsDrew Doughty expects the Kings to get off to a fast start in Game 1.
Impact"I think everyone's just really excited right now, anxious to get out there," Doughty said. "I'm sure it was tough to sleep for some guys. Just really excited going into that rink. It just starts right away with the anthem, going crazy. It just pumps us all right up." Chicago and Los Angeles are a combined 14-3 when scoring the first goal in the playoffs, so obviously the team that finds the back of the net first will have a huge advantage.
Doughty fine playing 28 minutes per game | 05/30/2013 10:47 AM
NewsDrew Doughty is averaging 27:57 minutes per game in the playoffs and he thinks that's maintainable.
Impact"Yeah, of course," Doughty said. "That's what we used the lockout for. We trained hard. We got in shape, and.we've been playing every other day. We're just used to it. For sure I can play 28 minutes. I love playing that much. I feel the more I play, the better I play. So you know whatever they do - if they bring my ice down, I'll still play the same way." Among those still participating in the postseason, only Boston's Zdeno Chara is averaging more minutes. Doughty has two goals and five points in 13 playoff games.
Sutter happy with the play of Drew Doughty | 05/18/2013 7:35 AM
NewsCoach Darryl Sutter was not happy with the play of his defenseman, save for the effort of Drew Doughty.
ImpactDoughty was a stud on the blueline once again as he played a team-leading 28:28 minutes and scored a power play goal, his second goal of the post-season. "Our defense can clearly do a better job at that (getting more involved in the play), other than Doughty last night," coach Darryl Sutter said. "I think he had . . .maybe nine total attempts, and he had five shots. After that, we were. . .not nearly as involved, or what we were getting from the outside from some guys that are looked on as goal scorers or shooters for their team, what they were doing in the series - things like that." Game 3 will be played on Saturday with the Kings leading two games to none.
Drew Doughty scores first goal of postseason | 05/11/2013 1:02 AM
NewsDrew Doughty scored his first goal of the playoffs 12:37 into the first period of Friday night's eventual series-clinching 2-1 Kings win.
ImpactDoughty beat Brian Elliott with a mid-range snap shot after faking a slapper from the point. Although he played four minutes less than the 29:35 average he entered Friday with, Doughty's 25:02 still led the Kings in ice time. If the Kings are going to repeat this year, they'll need Doughty to be one of the best players on the ice on a night by night basis.
Drew Doughty is picking up huge minutes | 05/09/2013 10:27 AM
NewsDrew Doughty logged a career-high 33:37 minutes in the Kings' 3-2 overtime win on Wednesday.

Drew Doughty wants more second effort chances | 05/06/2013 3:46 PM
NewsDrew Doughty thinks the Kings can do a better job at getting to rebounds on St. Louis goaltender Brian Elliott.
Impact"He's a good goalie. He makes the first save pretty much every time," Doughty said. "I think the one area struggles is he lets some rebounds, and I think we haven't been doing a good enough job of pouncing on those rebounds and putting in the second effort." There have been just seven goals scored in three games this series, so both teams are looking for more offense.

NewsDrew Doughty has four goals in his last five games.
Los Angeles Times
ImpactDoughty didn't even score his first goal of the season until March 19, but he's heated up offensively as the season's progressed. He received a wake-up call when Kings Coach Darryl Sutter decided to remove Doughty from the top power-play unit. "It taught me a bit of a lesson," Doughty said. "It's a privilege to be on it. I got another opportunity and made the most of it ... I was definitely frustrated. I didn't have a goal and I wasn't scoring, I wasn't putting up points on the power play. If you're not clicking with the other guys at that time, it's the right thing to do."

NewsDrew Doughty tallied the opening marker on the powerplay in the Kings' 5-1 loss to Dallas on Tuesday.
ImpactIn a rather ugly offensive outing for the Kings, the bright spot was Doughty, as he extended his goal streak to three games, and now has four markers on the season. The talented defenseman hasn't had his characteristically potent offensive season, but fantasy owners should be pleased with his recent play. He remains a must-start down the stretch.

NewsDrew Doughty fired a team-high five shots on goal and had two penalty minutes in the Kings' 2-0 loss to the Stars on Thursday night.
ImpactIt's been a very underwhelming season for the 23-year-old who now has just 13 points in 31 games. There's a ton of potential here -- as evidenced by 16-playoff points during the Stanley Cup run -- but it's a reminder that the rise to fulfilling promise for a young player comes with inconsistency.

Arizona Republic/Phoenix Gazette
ImpactPast history says he will. "It was good to get that first one off my back," said Doughty, who scored on his 65th shot of the season, in his 33rd game. "I'm kind of a streaky scorer, so I'm hoping I can get on a little roll now. I've had a lot of good chances, especially tonight - about five or six that could have gone in. It's good that I'm getting those chances. Now I've just got to bear down and put them by the goalie."
Drew Doughty: Coyotes 'like to whine a lot' | 03/20/2013 9:40 AM
NewsDrew Doughty sees the Phoenix Coyotes as whiners.
Impact"I think one is that they like to whine a lot," Doughty said. "At times they remind me of Vancouver with their complaining and stuff like that.I don't know if it's one single guy or anything like that. It kind of seems like a whole team kind of thing. All teams whine, all teams complain, it just seems like this team, especially against us.Seem to do it every night. So that's what frustrates you, and they play you hard, and they're tough to play against. So that also is what bugs you." The Kings just finished playing the Coyotes three times in a week. Los Angeles has won the last two contests and Doughty ended his season-long goal scoring slump on Tuesday.

NewsDrew Doughty commented that the Los Angeles Kings are a better team than the Anaheim Ducks before Monday's game before the two teams.
Orange County Register
ImpactDoughty said: "To see them up there, a team in our division, a team that I think all of us in here feel for sure that we're a better team than them, that kind of makes us frustrated and not happy with the way our season's gone so far." Coach Bruce Boudreau of the Ducks concurred that the Kings were better saying they are the current Stanley Cup champions but you know that the comment made the rounds in the Ducks dressing room. For the record, Doughty had an assist in the 5-2 win Monday night.

Los Angeles Times
ImpactDoughty has no goals, four assists, and a league-worst minus-10 rating in 11 games. "I'm not happy about some things - not scoring points, I haven't scored a goal yet - it isn't a good thing," Doughty said. "Sometimes bounces just don't go your way. We're not scoring a lot of even-strength goals. And if you're playing a lot of minutes, pretty much half the game, you're going to be out there for goals against." At the same time, Doughty is happy with how he's been playing lately and he is confident his statistics will eventually reflect that.
Kings coach has harsh words for Drew Doughty | 02/09/2013 12:29 PM
NewsDrew Doughty is goalless and a minus-eight after nine games with the Kings this season and Los Angeles coach Darryl Sutter was asked whether the star defenseman has been pressing.
Impact"No," Sutter said. "I just don't think he's good enough early in games. That's not pressing. We expect a lot out of him. He and his partner are on the ice for too many goals against."
Lots of ice time but D Drew Doughty pointless | 01/26/2013 12:55 PM
NewsStar defenseman Drew Doughty is averaging nearly 30 minutes a game but he has yet to register a point and the Los Angeles Kings have yet to win a game.
ImpactThey started the shortened season 0-2-1 to sit in the basement of the Western Conference standings. The Kings have been outscored 10-4 and are without two of their leading defensemen. Matt Greene is likely out for the season after undergoing back surgery, and Willie Mitchell is recovering from knee surgery. That's put more pressure on Doughty.

NewsDrew Doughty has come into training camp in good shape.
ImpactDoughty has had problems in the past coming into camp as he has had difficulty with his weight. But Doughty hired a personal trainer in the off-season and it seems to have made all the difference in the world. "We are all so excited to finally get the season started," Doughty said. "We have all been working hard off the ice. We all feel good and this week is important to get ready for the game. I know we are all going to be ready. We have such a short period of time to get ready that we are sticking to basics and really paying attention to details. Making sure we make those tape-to-tape passes and getting our systems back in our head. We are not trying to kill ourselves physically, but mentally we have to get back in that zone." Doughty came back to have a great playoff so draft him as a top-ten defenseman this season.
