Perron red-hot with 12 points in last 9 games | 12/06/2013 6:33 PM
NewsDavid Perron has been blazing while posting 12 points along with 34 shots on goal during the last nine games.
ImpactPerron was one of the big off-season acquisitions for the Oilers during the summer, and it seems to be paying off (at least from an offensive stand point) as he's recorded 24 points in 26 contests. He started the season with 12 points in his first 17 games (0.71 points per game), which was around the ballpark figure of his career numbers, but has since stepped it up to a whopping 1.33 during this recent "hot streak". One of the main reasons for the boost is due to a sharp spike in power play time. He's appeared in 58 percent of the Oilers' power play opportunities during this span, which is comparable to other forwards such as Logan Couture, Henrik Zetterberg, Shane Doan, Alex Steen, Eric Staal, Joe Thornton and Jaromir Jagr, so it's not surprising to see his point totals being where they are. The Oilers may be struggling to get wins on the board, but they're certainly providing enough offense to please poolies out there. Perron is just 56 percent Yahoo! owned

On the outside, I feel like he's a really good fit for our team and the way that we play. There will be more attack opportunities for him, more rush opportunities. I think we potentially could be a better fit for his skill set than the team that he comes from."

Hockey types, writes Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, refer to Perron as "liking the puck on his stick." As a point guard he would stand accused of being dribble happy. At his best, Perron is an artist who rendered 35 assists as a 21-year-old and 42 points in 57 games last season. However, his flair leads to suggestions that he paints with oils when a minimalist coach believes a straight-line drawing better.
