John Scott likely to draw into lineup Friday | 02/28/2014 6:41 PM
NewsJohn Scott will probably play Friday night despite a previous projection that he would be scratched.
ImpactWith Steve Ott being held out of the game, the Sabres were forced to make adjustments. If Ott ends up being traded, and the fact that he's a late scratch is a strong indication that the Sabres are engaged in serious talks involving him, then Scott will probably play more regularly to help fill the void.
Scott will likely play on blueline Tuesday | 02/25/2014 11:25 AM
NewsLook for John Scott to serve as a defenseman on Tuesday.

ImpactThat will allow Henrik Tallinder, who played for Sweden in the Winter Olympics, to get the game off. Scott has a goal and 81 penalty minutes in 33 games this season.
John Scott gets sent off during practice Mon. | 02/25/2014 7:34 AM
NewsJohn Scott apparently had a temper tantrum during Monday's practice after he was sent off the ice by interim coach Ted Nolan.
ImpactHe left the ice midway through the session and observers heard him yell, smash his stick on the boards and then throw it on the ice. He also slammed the bench door on his way off. "He just fumbled the puck a few times in practice and I didn't like it," Nolan said. "In order for us to get better here, we have to practice better. He just had one of those moments I didn't like so I sent him off." Scott was expected to be a healthy scratch Tuesday night anyway, but this outburst probably didn't do him any favors with the Sabres' bench boss.
John Scott scores for only 2nd time in career | 12/28/2013 9:20 AM
NewsJohn Scott scored a goal against the Maple Leafs Friday night.
ImpactWhy is this newsworthy you may be asking? It's because it was Scott's second career goal in his 200th NHL game. Scott is known more for his toughness than his offensive ability, but Buffalo coach Ted Nolan has aksed Scott to fight less and has been giving him significantly more ice time as a reward. Good news for Scott but not such good news for those who have Scott on their fantasy squads to bolster their penalty minute totals.
John Scott may play defense Thursday | 12/19/2013 3:56 PM
NewsJohn Scott may play on defense Thursday night.
Impact"This will be a real game-time decision whether we put him in," interim coach Nolan said. "We've been working with him last couple of games. We'll see. Everybody played well last time so it depends on the mood before the game I guess." He has been skating on the back end for the past few days.
Scott missed practice Friday to be with wife | 12/14/2013 8:49 AM

ImpactScott should be back with the team Saturday but there is no guarantee he will be in the lineup against the Flames after he played poorly Thursday night.
John Scott eligible to return on Friday | 11/07/2013 10:24 PM
NewsJohn Scott has finished serving his seven games suspension and can return to the Buffalo lineup Friday against the Ducks.
ImpactScott was given the suspension for his illegal hit to the head on Boston's Loui Eriksson. It should be interesting next week as the Sabres play a home-and-home series against Toronto, where Scott is not popular at this time as he tried to fight with Phil Kessel in the preseason, a move that cost David Clarkson a ten game suspension for leaving the bench during a fight.
John Scott won't appeal his suspension | 11/01/2013 12:49 PM

NHL hands John Scott a 7-game suspension | 10/31/2013 5:45 PM
NewsJohn Scott has been suspended for seven games by the NHL for his illegal check to the head of Boston's Loui Eriksson.
ImpactThe incident occurred back on Oct. 23 in the third period of the Bruins' 5-2 win over Buffalo. Scott has already has served three games of this suspension, while waiting for his in-person hearing, so he'll be eligible to return on November 8th when the Sabres play on the road against Anaheim.
John Scott is out for at least three games | 10/25/2013 5:24 PM

ImpactScott's in-person hearing isn't even scheduled for Thursday. He admitted that he made contact with Eriksson's head, but claims it wasn't intentional. He has five points and 324 penalty minutes in 187 career games.
John Scott was unaware how bad his hit was | 10/25/2013 8:00 AM
NewsJohn Scott was suspended indefinitely by the NHL on Thursday pending his disciplinary hearing.
ImpactScott pleaded his case in the afternoon to the media that he didn't even know that he caught Boston's Loui Eriksson in head with his hit. "It happened pretty fast," he said. "I just thought I was completing a check, but obviously I hit his head. It wasn't exactly what I was aiming for. I didn't want to do that. It's just a bad play. Unfortunate it happened. ... Honest to God, I didn't realize it was that bad of a hit, because I was in the box, I was asking the ref like, 'was it a head hit?' I didn't set out to do that.'" He doesn't feel like he's a dirty player and this is his first suspension. Scott doesn't know when his in-person hearing will take place, but because he's banned indefinitely he won't be available for Friday's game versus Florida.
John Scott gets offered an in-person hearing | 10/24/2013 9:59 AM
NewsJohn Scott has been offered an in-person hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety for his illegal check to the head of Boston's Loui Eriksson.
ImpactScott delivered a blindside hit to the head of Eriksson in the neutral zone early in the third period. He received a five-minute major for charging on the play and picked up another five minutes for the fight that ensued with Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid. Eriksson was helped off the ice, didn't return and spent the night at a Buffalo hospital for observation as a precaution. It's likely that Scott will be facing a lengthy suspension.
John Scott thinks ban on staged fighting | 10/05/2013 8:00 AM
NewsEnforcer John Scott thinks there should be a ban on staged fighting.
ImpactScott was involved in the biggest brouhaha of the preseason when he went after Toronto's premier hockey player Phil Kessel in a mismatch that made a lot of people talk about banning fighting altogether. "The staged fighting, the fights that don?Tt really mean anything, I can do without those," Scott said. "I know I've been in a few of those in my career, but there's a time and place for every fight. Sometimes they don't really matter. I can see where the league is coming from and the fans are coming from." Scott has fantasy value in pools that use penalty minutes as a category but plays infrequently so it's hard to know when to put him in the lineup.
John Scott will suit up against Senators | 10/04/2013 4:22 PM
NewsJohn Scott will suit up in Friday's home opener against Ottawa.
ImpactHe will take the place of Cody McCormick in the lineup because the Senators typically dress one or two tough guys. Scott was a healthy scratch in the Sabres' first game of the year.
John Scott talks about starting line brawl | 09/24/2013 7:08 AM
NewsJohn Scott met with the media on Monday to discuss his role in Sunday's line brawl against Toronto.
Impact"I said, 'Phil, I think we're going to have to go here, just to let you know,'" Scott said. "I would have went after who ever they put lined up next to me. I don't know what their coach had in mind. I wasn't trying to hurt him. I was just trying to send a message." Coach Randy Carlyle said he was trying to diffuse the situation by sending out Kessel's line, but that proved to be a poor decision as Scott went after the Leafs' scorer instead of a tougher opponent. Kessel responded with some nasty stick-work, including some big slashes, which may result in supplemental discipline. It should be a fight-filled affair when the Sabres and Leafs square off in their first meeting of the 2013-14 campaign.
Sabres re-sign tough guy John Scott | 05/20/2013 10:06 AM
NewsJohn Scott has signed a one-year extension worth $750,000 to stay with the Buffalo Sabres.
ImpactHe would have been able to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. He received a decent raise after making $600,000 last season. Scott skated in 34 games with the Sabres in 2013 and amassed 69 penalty minutes.
John Scott is slated to play Thursday night | 03/21/2013 2:26 PM
NewsJohn Scott is projected to get back into Buffalo's lineup with Toronto in town.
ImpactThe Leafs lead the league in fighting majors, so Scott could get into some fisticuffs Thursday night. He has been a healthy scratch for the last three contests.
John Scott ready to play enforcer for Sabres | 01/18/2013 9:48 AM
NewsJohn Scott is ready to add some toughness and size to Buffalo's fourth line this season.
Impact"It took a little bit of time to get used to me being an enforcer," he said. "I wanted to see if I could be a defenseman or forward, chip in with the goal scoring. I've embraced it the last few years. My job is to protect the team. I enjoy doing it, I enjoy going out there and fighting and protecting my teammates." He won't contribute much of anything offensively, but he should pick up PIMs if he plays regularly. Still, there are probably better options out there if want penalties.
