Chicago's penalty kill continues to be boon | 06/17/2013 8:43 AM
NewsChicago has allowed only four power-play goals in 63 chances in the playoffs.
Los Angeles Times
ImpactIt's a good thing because of its problems on its own man advantage. The Blackhawks have killed off four of five power plays against the Bruins in the Stanley Cup Final. Coach Joel Quenneville credits his players, pointing out the work of Michael Frolik and Marcus Kruger. "I just think that duo is the thing that's been the most noticeable," Quenneville said. And Kruger and Frolik credit their ability to "read off" each other in order to know where to be.
Frolik used shootout move from Czech league | 05/28/2013 9:08 AM
NewsMichael Frolik says he used a move he learned while playing in the Czech league during the lockout on Monday's game-winning penalty shot.
ImpactFrolik got Jimmy Howard to go down before roofing a backhander into the top right corner of the net. It was a beautiful shot that put the Hawks up 4-2 midway through the third period. There was debate as to whether Frolik deserved the shot after Carlo Colaiacovo was whistled for a slash on the Chicago winger, who was a step or two ahead of Colaiacovo and breaking in on Howard. For his part, Colaiacovo said he was "surprised" the referees awarded Frolik the penalty shot.
Frolik scores the game winner on penalty shot | 05/27/2013 10:55 PM
NewsMichael Frolik scored a penalty-shot goal that turned out to be the game winner in Monday's 4-3 Game 6 win.
ImpactThe penalty shot itself was highly questionable, but Frolik's backhanded goal was a thing of beauty. The postseason dynamo got Jimmy Howard to go down and bring his glove down before quickly changing to his backhand and roofing the puck just inside the crossbar and the right post. Frolik's score capped a three-goal period and helped the Blackhawks forced Game 7, which is scheduled for Wednesday night.
Frolik, Kruger excelling at killing penalties | 05/17/2013 8:50 AM
NewsMichael Frolik and Marcus Kruger have been a big part of Chicago's penalty-killing success this year.
ImpactChicago has not surrendered a power-play goal in the playoffs. "They've been real solid all year," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said. "When they started at the beginning of the year it was a work in progress, and they've progressed in a real nice way. They're first and third on each kill, they're blocking shots, they're getting in lanes and play at a good pace. It's gotten them more of a role, more ice time. And that line played well all year, so a real nice fit for us." They've been something of an unlikely duo, especially seeing as Frolik wasn't known for killing penalties before coming to Chicago. All the same, they've become valuable pieces of the Blackhawks' squad.
Hawks' Michael Frolik scores more in playoffs | 05/04/2013 10:05 AM

ImpactIn 138 regular-season games with the Hawks, he has 11. "I don't really know what it is," Frolik said. "I'd be happy to have it in the season, too."
Michael Frolik scores two goals in Game 2 win | 05/04/2013 12:38 AM
NewsMichael Frolik scored the Blackhawks' first two goals of the game in a 5-2 win Friday night.
ImpactTeammate Patrick Kane almost had the night's first goal five minutes into Game 2but the referees ruled he kicked the puck into the net. The former Florida Panthers has six goals and 10 points in 13 postseason games, all with the Blackhawks.
Michael Frolik having great week | 04/01/2013 7:01 AM
NewsMichael Frolik was plus-three on Sunday.
ImpactFrolik had a big week playing alongside Jonathan Toews and Brandon Saad as he had two goals and two assists in the last week to go with a plus-three rating. While his three goals and eight points in 32 games this season is nothing to write home about, with Marian Hossa on the sidelines, Frolik does have some fantasy value while replacing him.
Line change does wonders for Michael Frolik | 03/26/2013 7:05 AM
NewsAfter moving to the top line on Monday, Michael Frolik responded with a two goal, one assist effort.
ImpactFrolik replaced the injured Marian Hossa on the first unit, alongside Jonathan Toews and Brandon Saad and picked up his first goal since the season opener on January 19. He will lose his job to Hossa upon his return but could be considered a short term fix for fantasy teams while on the first line in Hossa's absence.
Michael Frolik has three-point night | 03/25/2013 11:07 PM
NewsMichael Frolik potted two goals and also registered an assist in Chicago's 5-4 loss to the Kings Monday night.
ImpactRemember when Frolik was considered an outstanding prospect in 2006? Well Frolik has only 10 points in 30 games this season which means he has almost no fantasy value in any format.
Michael Frolik to see first line duty Monday | 03/25/2013 5:42 AM
NewsMichael Frolik will replace the injured Marian Hossa on the top line Monday.
ImpactMichael Frolik will line up alongside Jonathan Toews and Brandon Saad Monday with Marian Hossa unlikely to go with an upper body injury. "He's been good," coach Joel Quenneville said. "His play, overall, has been very consistent. He doesn't have the production to reflect how well he's been playing. Penalty killing, 5-on-5 -- that line on that last trip was very efficient -- the finish is the one area where it'd be nice if he were a little more patient, comfortable. He's going to get some higher-quality opportunities. Don't force it. But if you're in the offensive areas, cash in." Frolik has only one goal and four points with his goal being the game winner on the opening day of the season so moving up to a scoring line and playing with Toews won't hurt his chances.

ImpactFrolik has transitioned well into more of a defensive role for the Hawks this season. However, his one goal and three points through 22 games means he has almost no fantasy value in any format.
Blackhawks great on the penalty kill | 01/28/2013 8:12 AM
NewsThe Chicago Blackhawks have killed off 22 of 23 power play chances.
ImpactChicago is off to a perfect 6-0 start, the best in their history and the penalty kill has a lot to do with their success. "We didn't have much time to practice (it in training camp), but we've tried to stick with the plan: Clear the puck 200 feet and make big (PK unit) changes," Frolik said. "You want to play a high-energy PK and put the pressure on them. So far it's working." Frolik only has a goal and an assist in six games so we can't recommend him at this time.
Michael Frolik: I wasn't very good last year | 01/12/2013 10:59 AM
NewsChicago Blackhawks right winger Michael Frolik is determined to improve in the coming NHL season.
Impact"I wasn't very good last year and I know I can be better," said Frolik, who had 13 goals and 10 assists in 29 games for Chomutov in Europe during the NHL lockout. "I worked this summer, played some games in the Czech Republic; I'm in good shape but I think I can prove I can be better than last year." Frolik came to Chicago after tallying two consecutive 21-goal seasons for the Florida Panthers. He hasn't scored 21 goals in the past three seasons combined. Frolik admitted last season that he was pressing. "The more you want to score the more it kind of goes against you. I just have to try to forget that and just play the game and try to be relaxed. I just want to play like the first two years (in Florida), and even better."
