ImpactThe Flyers acquired Downie from Colorado in exchange for Maxime Talbot and have been toying with the idea of using their new forward on the top line. "He changes the momentum," Tocchet said. He added, "And he's a natural right shot which would help Giroux. ... Claude Giroux might start scoring goals playing with Steve Downie." Impact"It is what it is. I play on the edge," said Downie. He recently angered the Nashville Predators for his hit on Roman Josi. The blow appeared to hit Josi's head, but Downie didn't face any supplemental discipline because he kept his skates on the ice and Josi lowered himself in an attempt to avoid the hit. In addition to generating plenty of penalty minutes, Downie does chip in offensively, making him a great fantasy option in leagues that value PIM.

NewsSteve Downie won't face any supplemental discipline for his hit on Nashville's Roman Josi, according to NHL director of player safety Brendan Shanahan.
ImpactShanahan explained via his Twitter account that Downie's skates were on the ice at the point of contact and the Avalanche forward didn't launch himself up at the Predators defender. Shanahan added that Downie came up after impact and Josi was lower to avoid the hit. Josi was hurt on the play. Downie has been a good fantasy player early into this season, while racking up 15 penalty minutes and two points after two contests.

ImpactJosi was injured on the play and Downie was assessed with a charging penalty and while Trotz was of the opinion that Downie should be suspended, Patrick Roy was of a different mind. "That was a great hit I thought. I don't know, I need to re-look at it, but I thought it was a fair check. What I like about Steve is: he's a great leader right now on this team. He's playing hard," Roy said. "Everybody is rattled by him, but he stays calm, he stays focused. I'm not sure he is, but he says 'Patty, I'm under control, I'm under control.' I said, 'OK, let's keep going then.'" Downie is a great source of penalty minutes and could get 35-plus points, making him a very good fantasy player.

ImpactIt would be a big upgrade for Downie if that ends up being a line Colorado starts the season with, but obviously nothing has been set in stone yet. Either way, Downie is someone you want to keep in mind after he was limited to just two games last season. Downie should provide you with 150-200 penalty minutes and is a candidate to surpass the 40-point mark.
