It was the United States' first medal since 2004 and their third overall since 1963. He has one year left on his current contract with the Avalanche and has been the subject of trade rumors before. Perhaps he increased his value if a team is looking to deal with the NHL draft on the horizon.

The U.S. is back in action Wednesday against Finland.

NewsPaul Stastny scored his ninth goal of the season in the Colorado Avalanche's 3-2 shootout loss.
ImpactIt's crazy to think of the promise that Stastny once showed in his first four seasons, totaling 264 points in his first 274 points. Now Stastny is a player with a first line price tag but third on the depth chart at the center position. He's an alright depth option because he has terrific vision but lacks the talent around him to capitalize on his talents. Look elsewhere if possible.

Columnist: Avs should scratch Paul Stastny | 03/21/2013 10:13 AM
NewsColorado's Paul Stastny was a minus-2 with one shot on goal in the Avalanche's 4-3 win over the Dallas Stars Wednesday night and Denver Post hockey dude Adrian Dater thinks it's time for the veteran center to be a healthy scratch.
Impact"When does he get his wake-up call healthy scratch?" Dater writes. "I think he's been coddled a bit too much here, frankly. I don't mean that in as mean a way as it sounds. I just think that the Avs somehow think he's above reproach, and I don't see why. And if he's not going to score at all, at least he should pull his socks up and take a simple blocked shot for the team once in a while."

Columnist: Avs should move Paul Stastny | 03/04/2013 5:32 PM
NewsAdrian Dater of the Denver Post suggests the Avalanche should try to trade center Paul Stastny.
ImpactThe potential transaction would allow Ryan O'Reilly to rejoin the top-six forward group and it would prevent resurgent pivot Matt Duchene from having to convert to the wing again. Stastny has five goals and 12 points in 20 games this season and he's value is probably on the decline. He has gotten slightly over the 50-point plateau in the past two campaigns, but he managed to surpass the 70-point mark in three of his first four seasons. He is set to earn $6.6 million in 2013-14 as well, which could make him tougher to move as well.

NewsPaul Stastny had a goal and an assist on Thursday.
ImpactStastny now has five goals and 12 points in 19 games this season. All things considered, he was solid in the month of February, but he's certainly not living up to the nearly point-per-game numbers he posted in his early seasons.
Paul Stastny has gone cold - again | 02/27/2013 9:36 AM
NewsPaul Stastny has just one assist in his last four games.
ImpactThat alone wouldn't be that big of a deal, but it's part of a larger set of struggles for Stastny this season. He's gone from reaching the 70-point mark twice to getting just 10 points in 19 games in 2013. This is shaping up to be his third straight disappointing season and at this point, we don't expect big things from him.
Paul Stastny slumping as Colorado struggles | 02/24/2013 11:17 AM
NewsOne of the reasons that the Colorado Avalanche is struggling is that their star center, Paul Stastny, hasn't been doing much of anything lately.
ImpactStastny has only one goal in his past eight games.
Stastny opens up about O'Reilly situation | 02/14/2013 10:27 AM
NewsPaul Stastny seems resigned to the idea that restricted free agent Ryan O'Reilly will be traded.
Impact"We've heard things, but it's out of our control," Stastny said. "Obviously, it's (on) your mind. We've played with him for three years. He's a big part of this team. But when it comes to the business side of hockey, sometimes things like this happen. It sours a relationship, ruins a relationship. Whether that has happened or not, who knows? But as a good buddy, you hope for his success, and you hope you get something in return, someone who can make an immediate impact." Colorado is seeking a roster player and a top prospect in exchange for O'Reilly, but getting that might be difficult given O'Reilly's financial demands and the fact that he's only had one great season.
Paul Stastny gets two assists Monday | 02/05/2013 10:29 AM
NewsPaul Stastny registered two assists on Monday.

ImpactStastny scored twice in Colorado's 6-3 victory. "I think Paul can hopefully relax a little bit now and play his game," Sacco said. "It was just a matter of time before he got going here, so that's big for our team. We need him going offensively for us." Stastny had no goals and an assist in his previous six contests. He should be able to reach the 30-point mark despite his slow start.
Paul Stastny struggling in early going | 01/28/2013 8:55 AM
NewsPaul Stastny has only one assist in four games this season.
ImpactIt hasn't helped that Stastny is also a minus-three in the early going. Stastny played in the German League during the lockout so his slow start cannot be blamed on getting into condition. Look for Stastny to break loose soon, possibly as quick as Monday's game against the Oilers.
