Ramo impressive in Flames victory | 12/05/2013 4:05 AM
NewsKarri Ramo turned aside 29 of 30 Phoenix shots in Calgary's 4-1 win Wednesday night.
ImpactRamo made back-to-back starts for the first time since late October and he won his second straight game also. Ramo has allowed only two goals in his last two games. He now has a 4-4-1 record with a 3.00 goals-against average and .898 save percentage. Maybe the Flames will give him the starting role over Reto Berra now.

NewsKarri Ramo will get the nod on Wednesday against Phoenix.
ImpactRamo kicked out 21 of 22 shots in a 2-1 win over Los Angeles in his last start on Saturday. That was the first time in 2013-14 that the Flames have allowed less than two goals in a game, which is a great example of how sad their season has been thus far.
Karri Ramo shows no rust, makes 21 saves | 12/01/2013 12:57 AM
NewsKarri Ramo made 21 saves as the Flames topped the Kings 2-1 on Saturday night.
ImpactRamo had only made one start in November -- Nov. 8 -- but rust wasn't evident in this one as he turned in one of his best performances of the season. Ramo now has a 3.23 goals-against average and .890 save percentage on the year. The Flames earned at least a point in only six games during the month.

G Karri Ramo starts tonight but played Friday | 11/30/2013 9:04 AM
NewsCalgary goaltender Karri Ramo, who has not started in the Calgary net since Oct. 30, was given an appetizer Friday in anticipation of his next start tonight.
ImpactRamo, who's been relegated to backup to Reto Berra throughout November, had an eight-minute, 34-second appearance in the third period during Friday's 5-2 loss in Anaheim. Calgary coach Bob Hartley said the decision was to help Ramo get a bit of rhythm to his game before facing the Kings tonight. "Every action I get, I guess, is good action," said Ramo of his four-save performance after Berra was given the hook. Ramo's only start over the last 30 days was the Nov. 8 clash against the Colorado Avalanche, in which he surrendered three goals in 4-2 defeat. He's clamoring for the chance to show what he can do and get his game on a roll. The team's opening-night starter, Ramo has a 2-4-1 record with a 3.52 goals-against average and .884 save percentage.

NewsKarri Ramo allowed three goals on just 21 shots Wednesday night and was saddled with a loss after a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Maple Leafs.
ImpactRamo and the Flames will be left wondering what could have been, as Calgary carried the play for the better part of this contest, but walked away pointless. Ramo's record falls to 2-3-1 with the loss, while his GAA is 3.49 and his save percentage is .888.

Karri Ramo makes 27 saves, Flames top Caps | 10/27/2013 1:11 AM
NewsKarri Ramo blocked 27 shots in the Flames' 5-2 win over the Capitals on Saturday night.
ImpactCalgary's goaltending situation figures to be inconsistent this season, and right now seems to be Ramo's time to show what he's capable of. Saturday night was one of his best performances of the season, which helped him earn his second win. Still, he has an unsightly 3.56 goals-against average and .892 save percentage on the year. Even though the Flames have surprised, fantasy owners would be best to not count on Flames netminders, or start based on matchups if you really need them.
Karri Ramo blitzed by Stars in Dallas | 10/24/2013 11:59 PM
NewsKarri Ramo was beaten five times on 34 shots Thursday as the Flames were outmatched by Dallas by a score of 5-1.

Karri Ramo to get the start in goal Monday | 10/21/2013 7:01 AM
NewsKarri Ramo will get the start on Monday when the Flames take on the Kings in Los Angeles.
ImpactRamo is currently 0-1-1 and this will be his second consecutive game after losing 6-3 to San Jose Saturday in which he kicked out 30 of 35 shots. He has a mediocre 4.35 GAA to go with a .878 save percentage but actually played well against the Sharks. Adjust your lineup accordingly.
Coach not disappointed in Karri Ramo | 10/20/2013 6:40 AM
NewsDespite giving up five goals on 35 shots Saturday night, coach Bob Hartley was not disappointed with the effort of Karri Ramo.
ImpactRami had not played since the Flames first game of the season due to the fine play of Joey MacDonald. "I felt that he played very well," Hartley said. "He battled all game long. He was under siege basically all game. You just can't win when . . . we probably had as many penalty kills tonight than we had in our last three or four games. We're not that kind of team and I don't think it's a recipe for success." The Flames next two games are Monday and Tuesday so look for Ramo and MacDonald to split the starts.

NewsGoalie Karri Ramo, in net for Calgary for his first start since Oct. 3, turned aside 30 of 35 shots in the Flames' 6-3 loss to the red-hot Sharks in San Jose Saturday night.

Karri Ramo can't hold on against Capitals | 10/03/2013 10:22 PM
NewsKarri Ramo allowed four goals on 39 shots in Calgary's 5-4 shootout defeat at the hands of the Capitals on Thursday night.
ImpactStaked to a 3-0 lead in the first period, Ramo and the Flames were unable to hold off the Caps and eventually succumbed to the better team. Given his precarious hold on the starting gig, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Joey MacDonald between the pipes for Calgary's next game.
Bob Hartley knows starter, will not reveal it | 09/30/2013 5:06 AM
NewsCalgary coach Bob Hartley knows which netminder will start the opener but has not revealed it to his goaltenders.
ImpactKarri Ramo, Joey MacDonald and Reto Berra are in the mix to start the opener in Washington on Thursday. It is thought that Ramo has the inside track but stay tuned. Ramo played the last four seasons in the KHL with Omsk where he had a 26-9-5 record with a 2.00 GAA and a .929 save percentage during the 2012-13 campaign.
Karri Ramo wins Flames' No. 1 goalie status | 09/28/2013 9:52 AM
NewsFormer Tampa Bay goaltender Karri Ramo had a strong exhibition season and has won the competition to succeed the retired Miikka Kiprusoff as Calgary's starting goaltender.
ImpactRamo spent four strong seasons in the KHL but had an inglorious start to his NHL career with the Lightning. He signed as a free agent with the Flames in the summer.
Karri Ramo looks solid in preseason game | 09/24/2013 11:03 AM
NewsKarri Ramo turned aside 27 of 28 shots in a 4-1 victory against the New York Rangers on Monday.
ImpactRamo is making a strong case to start the season as the Flames' number one goaltender. "He did a great job for us," Flames' goaltending coach Clint Malarchuk said. "And in doing so he did a great job for himself, making his statement. I think he should be very happy about that." It's worth keeping an eye on this situation, but we're hesitant to recommend drafting any of the Flames' goaltenders, given the likelihood that the playing time will be close to evenly divided and the overall state of the team.
Flames still unsure on goaltending situation | 09/23/2013 5:56 AM
NewsThe Calgary Flames have still not decided which two goaltenders will start the season as Karri Ramo, Joey MacDonald and Reto Berra are still battling it out.
ImpactAt the present time it appears that Ramo and MacDonald will be in Calgary as Berra needs to get acclimated to North America and the travel schedule after spending his career in Switzerland. Ramo was slated to be the starter when the Flames signed him from the KHL where he spent the last four seasons after last playing for Tampa Bay in the NHL. "They're all in the same boat right now," coach Bob Hartley said. "I can't say that one is ahead of the other. It's a three-man battle." Look for Ramo to get into 40-45 games this season with not too many wins as the Flames are thought to be a bottom-five NHL team.
Karri Ramo shrugs off strong game | 09/20/2013 10:34 AM
NewsKarri Ramo didn't want to read too much into a strong 21-save preseason performance against the New York Islanders.
Impact"You can't beat yourself up too much. You can't think too high of yourself, too, because then it's going to come back at you," Ramo said. "You just have to stay big in there and hope the puck hits you." Ramo is fighting to become the Flames' starting goaltender. The situation is worth keeping an eye on, but given the state of the Flames, we wouldn't recommend betting on Calgary's goaltending.
Karri Ramo not great in preseason game | 09/15/2013 1:11 AM
NewsKarri Ramo made 13 saves on 17 shots for Calgary in their 6-5 win against the Oilers in their split-squad game on the road.
ImpactNot the start you want to have as you aim to be a number-one netminder in the NHL. Ramo was very good, with a 2.00 goals-against average and .929 save percentage, in the KHL last season, but he still has a lot to prove in North America, as he hasn't shown he could be a dependable netminder.
Karri Ramo isn't trying to be 'new Kiprusoff' | 09/14/2013 3:24 PM
NewsKarri Ramo isn't worrying about trying to follow in the footsteps of retired goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff.
Impact"Because I don't think it's the pressure of being Miikka - nobody can replace him," said Ramo. "Obviously, nobody can be the new Kiprusoff. But to be a go-to guy here - or anywhere in the (National Hockey League)? It's a high-pressure spot. It would be the same thing even if Miikka was here. You would still feel the pressure (because) you would want to beat him. But you can't think about him. Like, 'Oh, Kiprusoff would have made this save and I couldn't make it.' You have to be yourself and play your game." Ramo is likely the favorite to start the season as Calgary's number one goalie, but he'll be competing with Reto Berra, Joey MacDonald, Joni Ortio for the honor.
Karri Ramo signs two year deal with Flames | 07/05/2013 1:44 PM
NewsKarri Ramo has signed a two-year/$5.5 million deal with the Calgary Flames.
Kent Wilson on Twitter
ImpactRamo has an opportunity to become the number one netminder in Calgary should Miikka Kiprusoff retire as has been widely suggested. The 27-year-old goaltender has spent the last four seasons with Omsk of the KHL and is ready to return to the NHL after seeing some action with the Lightning from 2007 through 2009. We would take a wait-and-see approach on Ramo and see what happens in training camp before passing judgment on him.
Flames GM: 'Optimistic' on Ramo deal | 06/17/2013 9:02 AM
NewsFlames general manager Jay Feaster has yet to acknowledge coming to terms on a contract with Finnish goalie Karri Ramo.
ImpactReports have indicated that Ramo inked an NHL deal, but Feaster really can't comment until deals can become official July 5. "I can't say anything about Ramo," said Feaster, "other than the fact that we've obviously had conversations with his agent. He wants to come over. July 5 is when, under the rules, we're allowed to sign him. I'm optimistic about that."
Flames agree to terms with G Karri Ramo | 06/05/2013 2:58 PM
NewsKarri Ramo and the Calgary Flames have reportedly agreed on a multi-year contract.
ImpactThe deal cannot be made official until July 5. Ramo has spent the past four seasons in the KHL with Omsk, where he had a 26-9-5 record with a 2.00 GAA and a .929 save percentage during the 2012-13 campaign. If Miikka Kiprusoff retires then there's a chance Ramo could end up as Calgary's number one goaltender next year.
KHL names Karri Ramo top goalie of December | 01/01/2013 2:56 PM
NewsKarri Ramo was a wall for Avangard Omsk in December en route to earning the KHL's Goaltender of the Month honor.
ImpactIn seven appearance, he posted three shutouts, stopped 95.72% of shots he faced and ended up with a 1.15 goals-against average. Ramo has 21 wins in 31 games this season with his KHL club. The Calgary Flames own his NHL rights, which they obtained from Montreal last January in the Michael Cammalleri deal.
