Nick Johnson can't quite make the Bruins | 09/29/2013 4:28 PM
NewsThe Boston Bruins decided that Nick Johnson wasn't quite up to snuff for the 13th forward spot, waiving him on Sunday.
ImpactIt looks like former first-rounder Jordan Caron edged Johnson for that last gig. Johnson showed flourishes in Boston's more dominating moments, but it looks like he'll remain a part-time NHL player and spend more time in the minors.
Nick Johnson, Caron battling for depth spot | 09/28/2013 3:28 PM
NewsNick Johnson and Jordan Caron are competing for Boston's 13th forward spot.
Impact"It's a tough decision because there's three or four guys who had good camps," GM Peter Chiarelli said. "I know there are two guys who you've been focusing on, Johnson and Caron, and I think they both played well." Both players would need to clear waivers to be sent down to the minors.
Nick Johnson vying for a spot with Boston | 09/25/2013 6:51 AM
NewsCoach Claude Julien said that Nick Johnson is "in the mix" for a third-line spot with the team.
ImpactHis leading competition for the position is believed to be Reilly Smith, who was acquired from Dallas as part of the Tyler Seguin trade. Jordan Caron hasn't received favorable reviews from onlookers at camp and Ryan Spooner is viewed as more of an option at center than on the wing. "You naturally want to think about it, but you can't," Johnson said. "Every day you've got to go hard. Every day could be your last. So that's the way it is and, if you can, you've got to embrace that for the season."
Nick Johnson may be in the hunt for 3rd line | 09/17/2013 7:01 AM
NewsNick Johnson may have inserted himself into the conversation for Boston's vacant third-line spot.
ImpactHe scored two goals in the Bruins' preseason win against Montreal Monday night. It probably didn't hurt that Carl Soderberg, who is expected to play on the third unit, had an up-and-down performance. Still, it's too early to tell what will happen and decisions won't be swayed one way or the other based on one exhibition contest.

Nick Johnson helps Phoenix earn a point | 01/31/2013 1:31 AM
NewsNick Johnson scored a game-tying goal with 19 seconds left, but the Phoenix Coyotes eventually lost to the Edmonton Oilers in overtime on Wednesday 2-1.
ImpactJohnson might be the beneficiary of Steve Sullivan's injury, as his time on ice jumped from 8:18 on Monday to 18:02 tonight. Then again, he has the hot hand, scoring two points on Jan. 28 and the Coyotes' only tally on Wednesday. He's scored twice on four SOG so far, so it's unlikely he'll keep this luck up very long.
