|Assets:||Skates really well and likes to agitate. Possesses good hockey sense and playmaking ability from the wing position. Is also defensively aware and he makes his linemates better. Can play either wing position effectively.|
|Flaws:||Has a tendency to pass up too many quality shots in order to distribute the puck. Could still stand to add more strength so as to better compete with bigger defenders in the corners, since he is often a target for opponents.|

Jannik Hansen shines on Sedin line | 04/14/2013 10:29 AM
NewsJannik Hansen scored a goal on Saturday.

Jannick Hansen promoted to Canucks' 1st line | 04/13/2013 11:46 AM
NewsJannick Hansen practised on the Canucks' top line Friday while Alex Burrows skated with Ryan Kesler and Zack Kassian, leaving Derek Roy between Mason Raymond and Dale Weise.
ImpactWhile the subtle moves speak of versatility for a Saturday matinee against the Colorado Avalanche in the second stop of a five-game road trip - especially in the absence of injured winger Chris Higgins - it's a calculated stroke of incentive by head coach Alain Vigneault. Instead of dropping Hansen down the lineup after benching him for the final 9:21 of a 4-1 victory over the Flames, Vigneault moved the Dane up and forced him to be accountable and productive with Henrik and Daniel Sedin. "I wasn't happy with my game and my compete level," said Hansen. "There wasn't a whole lot happening for me in both ends of the ice and you want to contribute if you're not making an offensive play, and I didn't have a very strong game. We hold each other to a high standard here and expect the best out of everybody if we're going to go anywhere. "We're all pretty confident jumping around in the lineup and not ruining any chemistry."
Hansen and Canucks shut out by Oilers | 03/31/2013 5:40 AM
NewsJannick Hansen was one of three Vancouver Canucks to avoid a -1 rating in Saturday night's 4-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers.
ImpactOut of the 18 Canucks that dressed, 15 of them had -1 ratings, thus a different set of five players was on the ice during each of the Oilers' three even strength goals. If that's not a sign of a team loss, we don't know what is. On the season, Hansen is tied for third on the team with a +11 rating.
Canucks winning ugly, Jannick Hansen admits | 03/30/2013 12:37 PM
NewsThe Vancouver Canucks have won six consecutive games, though they haven't been things of beauty.
Impact"Right now it's not as pretty as a lot of people would like it to be," Vancouver right winger Jannik Hansen said before the team flew to Edmonton, describing the tight-checking, low-risk defensive posture the Canucks have taken. "[But on the road], there's not 15,000 people yelling at you to start carrying play. They want to see back-door tap-ins here, where on the road, you can get back to basics. You can chip pucks out whenever you want and no one is going to get on you."

ImpactThe speedy winger had just three goals in the first two months of the season, but has picked it up in March with three goals in three games. He now has 12 points in 21 games. Hansen is definitely someone to watch over the next few weeks. He could be of help to those fantasy owners who are looking for a scoring punch.

Jannik Hansen still irked by NHL discipline | 02/24/2013 12:44 PM
NewsVancouver's Jannik Hansen is still perturbed about the one-game suspension he received last week for a head shot on the Chicago Blackhawks' Marian Hossa.
Impact"You're trying to play an honest game and play the right way and not step too far over the line," Hansen said/ "I've never been suspended. I've never had any incidents. I've played here for five or six years. I didn't have anything in the minors. It bothers me you have that on your record now. I'm not going to change my game in any way. I'm still going to play the same way as always. But again, I have that on there now. They can look back at it if something happens in the future."

NHL hands Jannik Hansen a 1-game suspension | 02/20/2013 10:18 PM
NewsJannik Hansen has received a one-game suspension for hitting Marian Hossa in the head on Tuesday.
ImpactHansen will not be available for Thursday's game, but is eligible to play on Friday. He argued that he accidentally made contact with Hossa's head while they both jumped for the puck, but Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews disagrees. Hansen received a two-minute roughing penalty on the play and Marian Hossa's injury status is currently unclear.
Ex-ref doubts Jannik Hansen will be suspended | 02/20/2013 2:39 PM
NewsFormer NHL referee Kerry Fraser will be surprised if Jannik Hansen gets suspended for his hit to the head of Marian Hossa Tuesday night.
ImpactAt TSN.ca, Fraser writes: "I do not believe that there was any deliberate or malicious intent on the part of Jannik Hansen to hit Marian Hossa in the head as both players went up for an airborne puck that had been flipped out of the Hawks zone by Jonathan Toews. The resulting contact to the back of Hossa's head was not worthy of anything beyond the minor penalty for roughing that was eventually assessed by the referees; albeit well after play was whistled dead for the Hossa injury." He adds: "Stranger things have happened but I would be surprised if Hansen receives a suspension on this play. I have seen far worse hits that have gone unpunished this season."
Jannik Hansen thinks hit on Hossa was legal | 02/20/2013 9:49 AM
NewsThe NHL will determine today whether the Vancouver Canucks' Jannik Hansen will be disciplined for a hit to the head on Chicago Blackhawks star Marian Hossa Tuesday night but Hansen himself thinks he did nothing wrong.
ImpactHansen said he believes the hit was "a hockey play." "We were both kind of jumping for (the puck)," Hansen added. "He grabs the puck first and as I'm coming down I kind of land on him a little bit. Apparently, I hit him in the back of the head is what the ref was telling me once I come down. It's hard for me to tell what really happened." Hansen said he did not believe he deserves supplemental discipline from the league. "It's out of my hands," Hansen said. The game is happening very fast out there. It's up to them to look at it now. I don't believe there is out of what I saw." When the Hawks and Canucks played Feb. 1, Hansen slashed the Hawks' Dave Bolland in the ankle and the center missed one game. After that incident, the Hawks said they didn't have an issue with the play. They do on the Tuesday hit. "It's pretty evident (Hansen) wasn't reaching for the puck or anything," Chicago captain Jonathan Toews said.
NHL to hold hearing today with Jannik Hansen | 02/20/2013 9:37 AM
NewsThe NHL will hold a hearing with Vancouver Canucks forward Jannik Hansen this afternoon after his hit to the head of the Chicago Blackhawks' Marian Hossa during Tuesday night's game at the United Center.
ImpactHansen will speak with the league at 2:30 p.m. Central on Wednesday to determine if he will be punished for the forearm to the back of Hossa's head during the third period of the Hawks' 4-3 shootout victory. The Hawks veteran, who suffered a severe concussion during last season's playoffs after an illegal hit from the Coyotes' Raffi Torres, had to be helped off the ice and did not return to the game.
Hansen scores game-winner against Wild | 02/13/2013 2:05 AM
NewsJannik Hansen tallied the deciding goal in the Vancouver Canucks' 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday.
ImpactHansen generated a ton of chances for the Canucks, as he recorded five shots on goal in just under 16 minutes of ice-time. All of Hansen's three goals on the year have come in the last four games, a sign that he's finally getting back in the groove of things. The Canucks have been struggling to find secondary scoring sources, and Hansen could potentially provide this. Continue monitoring him over the next few games before you jump to pick him up off of the waiver wire.

Canucks look at Jannik Hansen on top PP unit | 01/16/2013 6:05 PM
NewsJannik Hansen practiced with Vancouver's top power-play unit on Wednesday.
ImpactHe joined the Sedin twins up front while Alexander Edler and Jason Garrison manned the points. Hansen didn't put much stock into the opportunity because it's just a training camp audition, but coach Alain Vigneault sees the move as a possible fit moving forward. "Jannik does make a lot of sense," Vigneault stated. "Throughout the years at different times, we have used him with the twins and it has worked out for us. Jannik has more skill than I think people give him credit for but I also think he doesn't mind going to those tough areas. He's a real solid net presence and the fact he's a right-handed shot helps." Hansen averaged a mere eight seconds of power-play time per game last season, so a promotion to the top line would give his fantasy value a real jolt. He scored 16 times and added 23 assists in 82 games in 2011-12.
