Diaz does fine in Ranger debut | 03/23/2014 11:18 AM
NewsRaphael Diaz played well in his Ranger debut Saturday against the Devils.
ImpactHe paired with Kevin Klein in place of the injured John Moore, and held his own in the 16:20 of ice time he received. Most importantly, Diaz did get 4:06 of ice time on the Ranger power play. See how he does Sunday night against Toronto. If he has some success with the man advantage he may worth rostering if Moore's concussion keeps him out of action for a prolonged stretch.

NewsRaphael Diaz scored his first goal of the season in his first game for the Canucks during a 4-1 loss to Boston Tuesday night.
ImpactThe struggling defenseman was dealt from Montreal on Monday after struggling to find his game early on this season. Safe to say, he made a pretty good first impression in an otherwise dull effort by his new team.
Canucks acquire Raphael Diaz from Montreal | 02/03/2014 12:49 PM
NewsThe Vancouver Canucks have acquired Raphael Diaz from Montreal in exchange for Dale Weise.
Vancouver Canucks on Twitter
ImpactIn 46 games with Montreal this year, Diaz has posted 11 assists and a minus-4 rating. The Canucks have several holes to fill on their back end because of injuries, so Diaz should be able to step into the lineup immediately. If he gets power-play time in Vancouver then he could be a player worth watching on the waiver wire.

Raphael Diaz hasn't missed a game this season | 12/25/2013 3:37 PM
NewsRaphael Diaz is one of just eight Montreal players to have appeared in all 38 of their games this season.
ImpactDiaz wasn't drafted and had to excel in the Swiss league before Montreal finally took a shot at him in his late 20s. He'll turn 28 on Jan. 9 and he's only appeared in 120 NHL contests, but the late bloomer has firmly established himself as a regular. He has 10 points in 2013-14, which might not sound that impressive, but he's done that without getting much power-play ice time. He's nearly even with teammate Andrei Markov when it comes to even strength points, but Markov's work with the man advantage has resulted in him doubling Diaz's point total. Keep that in mind if Markov or PK Subban end up missing time due to an injury.
Raphael Diaz produces in Habs win | 10/29/2013 10:05 PM
NewsRaphael Diaz chipped in two assists in the Habs' 2-1 win over Dallas on Tuesday night.
ImpactDiaz snapped a five game pointless streak but still has six points through 13 games this season. The Swiss defenseman needs to elevate his game in order to become a dependable fantasy option, however showed last year that he can be a worthy option with 14 points in 23 games.
Raphael Diaz picks up two assists Saturday | 10/13/2013 9:57 AM
NewsRaphael Diaz had two assists in Montreal's 4-1 win on Saturday.
ImpactDiaz now has three points in five games this season. His power-play ice time is limited in Montreal, but he still might breach the 30-point mark if he manages to stay healthy.
Diaz could be sleeper fantasy pick | 09/28/2013 10:48 AM
NewsAlthough much of the attention in Montreal is focussed on P.K. Subban and Andrei Markov when examining the Habs' blueline, don't forget about Raphael Diaz.
ImpactHe has offensive skills (14 points in 23 games last season) and will play with talented players on the team's second power-play unit. Diaz will also likely start the season paired with Markov at even strength. If you are looking for a rearguard in the late rounds, you could do worse than Diaz.
Raphael Diaz will play for Swiss team at WHC | 05/15/2013 6:15 PM
NewsRaphael Diaz will close out the year in the World Hockey Championship with Switzerland.
ImpactThe Swiss will play the Czech Republic in Thursday's quarter-final round. "I learned a lot of things again this year," said Diaz prior to leaving for the tournament. Diaz had 14 points in 23 games during the regular season for Montreal.
Diaz should return to lineup Saturday v Caps | 04/20/2013 11:25 AM
NewsRaphael Diaz, who has missed 25 games due to a concussion, should return to the Montreal lineup Saturday night against Washington.
ImpactIt's been a long time since we've seen Diaz, who had a very promising start to his season (13 points in 19 games). We would wait to see Diaz play in a game before activating him, though, as 25 games is a rather long layoff.

NewsRaphael Diaz joined his teammates for Monday's practice for the first time since he suffered a concussion back on Feb. 25.
ImpactHe said he's feeling better each day even though there's still no timetable for his return to the lineup. Diaz had 13 points in 19 games from the back end prior to getting hurt.
Raphael Diaz is 'making progress' in recovery | 04/05/2013 10:04 AM
NewsRaphael Diaz is "making progress" in his recovery from a concussion.
ImpactThere wasn't much more than that from coach Michel Therrien, so it's difficult to figure out what "progress" means. Much like concussed teammate Rene Bourque, it's impossible to guess when Diaz might be able to return. We'll just have to wait and see.
Raphael Diaz still hasn't resumed skating | 03/21/2013 10:24 AM
NewsIt's been 'status quo' for concussed defenseman Raphael Diaz, as he tries to work his way back into Montreal's lineup.
ImpactHe is still working out in the gym, but hasn't resumed skating yet. Diaz hasn't played since Feb. 25 and a timetable for his return appears to be cloudy at best right now.
Raphael Diaz working out in gym, can't skate | 03/12/2013 6:59 PM
NewsRaphael Diaz (concussion) has been working out in the gym but hasn't been cleared to resume skating.
ImpactDiaz suffered the injury Feb. 25, but it's pretty clear at this point that he's still nowhere close to a return. Concussions are notoriously impossible to predict and the fantasy playoffs are quickly approaching, so we wouldn't blame owners if they'd moved on at this point.
Raphael Diaz still has concussion symptoms | 03/02/2013 11:22 AM
NewsDon't expect to see Raphael Diaz in action anytime soon.
ImpactAccording to Habs' coach Michel Therien, Diaz is still suffering from concussion symptoms. "With a concussion, honestly, there's no time frame," Therrien said.
Raphael Diaz (concussion) out Wednesday | 02/27/2013 7:12 PM
NewsRaphael Diaz has a concussion and won't play Wednesday night against Toronto.
ImpactHe sustained the injury during Monday's overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators, but didn't feel any symptoms until he started to feel dizzy Tuesday evening. Diaz has 13 points, including seven on the power play, in 19 games this season. Tomas Kaberle will replace him in the lineup.
Raphael Diaz adds another power-play assist | 02/26/2013 9:53 AM
NewsRaphael Diaz recorded a power-play assist in Montreal's 2-1 shootout loss to Ottawa Monday night.
ImpactHe set up Andrei Markov for a second-period score, but coach Michel Therrien went back to P.K. Subban on the man advantage late in the third period. Subban didn't do much to reaffirm himself in the eyes of Montreal Gazette columnist Pat Hickey, who believes Diaz should help quarterback the Canadiens' power play, when he took a tripping penalty to negate the man advantage. Diaz is making a strong case for himself to return to the top unit. He is currently tied for second the club with seven power-play points in 19 games.
Raphael Diaz v P.K. Subban on Habs' PP | 02/16/2013 11:45 AM
NewsMontreal Gazette columnist Pat Hickey believes Montreal's power play would be better with Raphael Diaz instead of P.K. Subban alongside Andrei Markov.
ImpactAccording to Hickey, Diaz's shot is not as hard as Subban's but is much more accurate. Diaz is also a better puck distributor. Of course, last time we checked, Michel Therrien was the Habs' bench boss. Hickey does raise an interesting point, though.
Raphael Diaz makes case to stay on top PP | 01/30/2013 12:28 PM
NewsRaphael Diaz is aware that P.K. Subban's signing will reduce his ice time, but his success on the power play may force Subban to wrestle minutes away from him in the early going.
ImpactHe has played well with Andrei Markov on the top unit and helped the Canadiens score twice on five opportunities against Winnipeg on Tuesday night. Diaz has seven assists in five games this season, which ties Markov for the team lead in scoring.
PK Subban out, Raphael Diaz in | 01/20/2013 11:12 AM
NewsRaphael Diaz registered an assist in the Canadiens' 2-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday night.
ImpactWith P.K. Subban still out of the lineup, Diaz should have an important role on the power play in Montreal with Andrei Markov feeding him on the point. Diaz is well worth a flyer in 14-team leagues that reward power play points while Subban is holding out.
Raphael Diaz skates with Bouillon at camp | 01/16/2013 12:59 PM
NewsRaphael Diaz has been paired with Francis Bouillon at Montreal's training camp.
Impact"Playing with Boo has been really nice," Diaz said of Bouillon. "He wants us to talk on the ice, which makes it easier for both of us." The sophomore defenseman enjoyed plenty of success playing overseas, but he knows that playing on the smaller ice of the NHL is different. Diaz is also getting used to another new system under coach Michel Therrien and he has enjoyed the camp so far. "The camp has had really good intensity, a lot of skating, a lot of new things about system," he said. "We're getting better and better, step by step. The details are very important."
Raphael Diaz to return soon from Swiss League | 01/07/2013 2:15 PM
NewsRaphael Diaz is projected to return to Montreal for the team's condensed training camp by the middle of this week.
ImpactThe Canadiens rearguard was excellent in Switzerland's National League A during the lockout, where he racked up seven goals and 29 points in 32 games with EV Zug. Potential fantasy owners should exercise caution before jumping on him, thinking he can carry that momentum into the NHL season. Diaz has plenty of experience in the Swiss League, but this will be just his second year back on the smaller rinks of the NHL. He had 16 points in 59 games with Montreal during his first season and he may need more time to get acclimated to the changes of the North American game.
