Scouting Report

Assets:	Has an impressive frame and the ability to log important minutes for his team (if need be). A good skater for a man his size, he has the ability to help stabilize things on the back end.
Flaws:	For a 6-4, 210-pound defenseman, he could stand to use his size more to his advantage. He's also somewhat limited offensively in the NHL. Injuries are also a factor here.
Career Potential:	Solid depth defenseman, when healthy.

The Calgary Flames have summoned Brett Carson.

Mark Giordano won't be available on Friday because his wife is having a baby, so the Flames needed another defenseman. "It's obviously exciting," said Carson. "Hopefully, I get up here and get to play some minutes . . . and just prove to this team that they didn't make a mistake in signing me. Obviously it's a tough situation right now, but I'm going to come up here and do my best." Carson has 11 points and 16 penalty minutes in 26 AHL games this season.
