Toronto left wing David Booth (foot) could be back on the ice soon. | 11/03/2014 4:49 PM
NewsToronto left wing David Booth (foot) could be back on the ice soon.
ImpactHe has surpassed his estimated four-week recovery time, but has yet to be activated from injured reserve. However, that activation could come any day, as Booth has shedded his walking boot, and is practicing with the team, daily.
Canucks now free to buy out David Booth | 06/18/2014 12:23 PM
NewsDavid Booth went unclaimed on waivers.
Elliotte Friedman on Twitter
ImpactWith that done, the Vancouver Canucks will now buy out the final season of Booth's contract. Booth wasn't able to establish himself as a top-six forward with Vancouver and the fact that he dealt with injuries didn't help. If he can find a team that will give him an opportunity on one of their top two lines, then he might bounce back in 2014-15. If nothing else, he's worth keeping an eye on to see where he ends up.
Vancouver plans on buying out David Booth | 06/17/2014 12:20 PM
NewsThe Vancouver Canucks have placed David Booth on unconditional waivers.
Bob McKenzie on Twitter
ImpactIf Booth successfully clears waivers, then Vancouver will buy out the last season of his contract. That will clear up $4.25 million in cap space. Booth had just 19 points in 66 games in 2013-14, but a change of scenery might do him some good as he never seemed to mesh well with the Canucks.
Agent unclear what Canucks plan for Booth | 06/16/2014 5:14 PM
NewsDavid Booth's agent, Mike Liut, doesn't know what the Canucks intend to do with his client as the NHL buyout window begins.
Impact"I called Jim (Canucks GM Benning) a couple of weeks ago and spoke with him about David then," said Liut. "That was before the club's meetings and he was still getting up to speed on things. I asked him to give me a heads-up if they came to a decision." Booth entered the off-season as a likely candidate to be bought out, but for the time being he's still with Vancouver.
David Booth scores ninth goal of 2013-14 | 04/11/2014 10:36 AM
NewsDavid Booth found the back of the net in Vancouver's 4-2 loss on Thursday.
ImpactBooth has just nine goals and 18 points in 64 games this season. It wouldn't be shocking if Vancouver opted to buy out the final season of his contract.
David Booth nets two to power Canucks' rout | 03/26/2014 10:07 PM
NewsDavid Booth sniped two goals to lead the Canucks' 5-2 rout over the Wild on Wednesday night.
ImpactBooth had been mired in a goal slump of epic proportions, not scoring since Dec. 17, 2013, but now he has three goals in his last two games. A threat earlier in his career for 20-plus goals, it's been another disappointing season for the 29-year-old who has eight markers and 16 points this season. Zack Kassian, Daniel Sedin and Ryan Kesler picked up the other goals in the win.
Canucks' David Booth has been ice cold | 03/06/2014 6:44 PM
NewsDavid Booth has been ice cold for a long time.
ImpactHe hasn't scored a goal in his last 24 games and he hasn't recorded a point in his past 10 contests. Booth has a mere five goals and 12 points in 48 matches this campaign.
David Booth does a lot during Olympic break | 02/22/2014 11:02 AM
NewsDavid Booth has had an eventful 10-day Olympic break.
ImpactHe got engaged, bagged an alligator in a quick Florida bow hunt and has done extra skating with a local coach. "It was actually really cool," said Booth of the two-metre long alligator. "It was actually a one-time thing. I don't think I'm going to become a gator hunter. There's not too many things open in February, so I had to go to Orlando for a couple of days and it was successful." Booth is hoping for success on the ice now, with the NHL scheduled set to resume. He has just five goals and 12 points in 44 games this season.
David Booth a healthy scratch Sunday | 01/27/2014 9:28 AM
NewsDavid Booth was a healthy scratch for the 12th time this season on Sunday.
ImpactBooth has not had a good time of it in Vancouver as he has struggled for a couple of seasons. He has only five goals and 11 points in 37 games and is not worth a pickup in fantasy pools.
David Booth is OK to suit up Saturday | 01/18/2014 3:56 PM
NewsDavid Booth is fine to play Saturday.
ImpactHe was injured late in Thursday's game against Phoenix. Booth has 11 points in 34 games this season.
David Booth gets back into Canucks' lineup | 01/15/2014 10:32 AM
NewsDavid Booth will be back in the Canucks' lineup on Wednesday.
ImpactBooth has been kept out of three straight games and it's not clear how much of that was just him being a healthy scratch or if he was actually unavailable due to an undisclosed injury. Either way, Booth is having a disappointing campaign and this is another opportunity for him to turn that around. "I hope he sees how some of the guys played last night," Canucks coach John Tortorella said on Tuesday, referring to Vancouver's gritty performance in its 1-0 loss to Los Angeles. "That's the way I want to see him play because we have another guy coming from the minors, so if he doesn't do it or other guys don't do it, I'll put another guy in."
David Booth is injured but practices Sunday | 01/13/2014 9:17 AM
NewsIt turns out that our speculation that David Booth was injured is correct.
ImpactCoach Alain Vigneault said on Sunday that Booth missed the skills competition because he was 'banged up'. Booth participated in practice Sunday but whether or not he plays Monday will likely be a game-time decision. Booth was a so-called healthy scratch the last two games. He has five goals and 10 points in 32 games with a plus-four rating. He has little fantasy value.
Booth doesn't participate in skills game | 01/12/2014 10:25 AM
NewsDavid Booth did not participate in the Vancouver Canucks skills competition on Saturday.
ImpactBooth has missed the last two games and was thought to be a healthy scratch but with his lack of participation in the skills event, you have to wonder if he is hurt. Jason Garrison won the fastest shot competition at 105.1 MPH while Dale Weise was once again the fastest skater.
David Booth collects an assist Sunday | 12/23/2013 10:37 AM
NewsDavid Booth registered an assist in Vancouver's 2-1 win on Sunday.
ImpactBooth has struggled this season, but he now has two goals and four points in his last six games. Given that his tenure with Vancouver has been mostly a disappointment, we would caution against getting too excited over his recent hot streak.
David Booth starting to pick up his game | 12/19/2013 5:49 PM
NewsDavid Booth will take a three-game point streak into Thursday night's meeting versus Dallas.
ImpactHe has recorded a goal in two straight matches and he added an assist the game before that. Booth has only nine points in 24 games this year, but his recent progress offensively is encouraging.
David Booth scores for first time in 7 games | 12/15/2013 10:45 AM
NewsDavid Booth broke a six game goal scoring slump with his fourth goal of the season Saturday.
ImpactBooth was playing in his 400th NHL game and he now has eight points and a plus-five rating in 23 games this season. He is not worth owning at this time.
David Booth scores again in loss to Rangers | 11/30/2013 5:08 PM
NewsDavid Booth tallied a goal in Vancouver's 5-2 loss to the Rangers on Saturday afternoon.
ImpactHe had a goal and an assist on Thursday, so this could be the start of a mini point spree for the oft-injured winger. Booth has registered just six points in 16 games this season, but he has been better since returning from the press box. We recommend taking a wait-and-see approach with him. Daniel Sedin had Vancouver's other goal in the defeat.
David Booth enjoys rare offensive outburst | 11/29/2013 10:02 AM
NewsDavid Booth had a goal and an assist in Vancouver's 5-2 victory on Thursday.
ImpactIt was a rare offensive outburst for Booth, who has fallen out of favor in Vancouver. He's averaging just 13:14 minutes per contest and that's when he plays at all. He's worth keeping an eye on because he does have top-six potential, but we can't recommend owning him in standard leagues yet.
David Booth will suit up Monday vs. the Kings | 11/25/2013 5:46 PM
NewsDavid Booth will return from his exodus to the press box on Monday night.
ImpactHe has been a healthy scratch for the last three games. In 13 games this year, Booth has one goal and two assists. He is eager to do "something" to get back into coach John Tortorella's good graces.
David Booth feels he lacks 'explosiveness' | 11/21/2013 5:26 PM
NewsDavid Booth doesn't feel he has the same jump that used to have, but he is confident that he can get it back.
Impact"My explosiveness isn't where it was in the past," said Booth. "That extra step, that's really the strength in my game. Without a doubt I can get it back. I've had other leg injuries and it comes back with time. It's just been a little bit longer this time than in the past." Booth was a healthy scratch on Tuesday for the second time this year and he's appeared in just 13 games, mostly due to injury, where he's posted only three points.
David Booth gets limited minutes in return | 11/15/2013 10:54 AM
NewsDavid Booth (lower body) played in his first game with Vancouver on Thursday since the completion of his AHL conditioning stint.
ImpactBooth was limited to just 12:04 minutes of ice time. He would have some fantasy value if the Canucks' were giving him a decent amount of playing time, but there's nothing to suggest that will happen.
David Booth has fun with conditioning stint | 11/14/2013 11:09 AM
NewsDavid Booth enjoyed his AHL conditioning stint.
ImpactBooth recorded an assist in three games with the AHL Utica Comets after missing some time with a lower-body injury. "It was fun playing a lot," Booth said. "You are just in the game, you don't really think the game, you just go out and play and that is something I haven't done in a long time. It was a lot of fun playing those minutes and being with the guys having their first win. I think there was nothing but positives." By contrast, Booth is averaging just 13:11 minutes per game with Vancouver this season. That lack of playing time has effectively killed his fantasy value in standard leagues.
David Booth completes conditioning assignment | 11/12/2013 4:16 PM
NewsDavid Booth (lower body) has return from his conditioning assignment.
ImpactBooth picked up an assist in three games with the AHL Utica Comets. There was a time when Booth was regarded as a solid top-six forward, but we wouldn't count on him having any fantasy value in standard leagues this season.
Booth might have been surprised by assignment | 11/05/2013 10:46 AM
NewsDavid Booth might have been caught off guard by Vancouver's decision to send him to the AHL on a conditioning assignment.
ImpactBooth stated hours before being assigned that returning during Vancouver's current road trip would be a "reasonable goal." The trip ends on Nov. 10, so that almost certainly won't happen now. His playing time has been limited ever since he joined Vancouver during the 2011-12 campaign.
Canucks send Booth to AHL for conditioning | 11/04/2013 6:21 PM
NewsDavid Booth has been assigned to AHL Utica on a conditioning assignment.
ImpactHe hasn't played since Oct. 24 with what is believed to be a groin-related injury. In 11 games this season, Booth has one goal and two assists.

ImpactAs it is, Booth has been limited to just 14:06 minutes per game this season. At his height, he recorded 60 points in 2008-09, but his role has decreased significantly ever since Vancouver acquired him from the Florida Panthers.
David Booth set to return for Canucks' opener | 10/03/2013 4:11 PM
NewsDavid Booth looks like he'll be available for Thursday's regular-season game versus San Jose.
ImpactHe tweaked his groin while getting ready for a preseason contest, but is poised to return in the Canucks' first game of the year. Booth is projected to play with Mike Santorelli and Brad Richardson on the third line.
David Booth tweaks groin Saturday morning | 09/21/2013 5:24 PM
NewsDavid Booth tweaked his groin during Saturday's morning skate and he won't play against the Oilers in preseason action as a result.
ImpactHe had surgery on his ankle in March and was finally cleared to return before this latest setback. The oft-injured winger hurt his groin on the first day of physical testing last season as well and it kept him out for five weeks. If Booth is unable to start the 2013-14 campaign then it could open the door for Brendan Gaunce, Hunter Shinkaruk or Nicklas Jensen to make the team's opening night roster.
David Booth will be in Canucks lineup tonight | 09/21/2013 12:52 PM
NewsDavid Booth will be playing for the Vancouver Canucks in their exhibition game tonight.
ImpactBooth has received medical clearance to play after undergoing ankle surgery in March. He is aiming to take a spot on the second line alongside Ryan Kesler and Alex Burrows and, if healthy, could be a valuable acquisition for fantasy players.
David Booth back at practice Wednesday | 09/19/2013 10:47 AM
NewsDavid Booth (ankle) finally practiced on Wednesday.
ImpactBooth received clearance to practice from the medical staff after undergoing ankle surgery in March. He is expected to play in a pre-season game within the next week and is hoping to grab the spot on the second line alongside Ryan Kesler and Alex Burrows. "If given the opportunity, I can really be a force in this league," Booth said. "I can't change the way I play because injuries are part of the game. It's a man's game out there. I've still got to take pucks to the net and finish my hits, and that's the way I play my game. I don't want to get away from that. If you play the game afraid, that's when you get hurt." Booth had been injury prone in three of the last four years, missing 110 games in that span. If healthy he can get 20 goals and 50 points but he is not worth selecting at this time because of the injury risk.
David Booth may not be ready for camp | 08/19/2013 12:25 PM
NewsDavid Booth (ankle) hasn't received clearance yet and it's unclear if he'll be ready for training camp.
ImpactHe underwent surgery on his ankle in March and is working on trying to be healthy for September. Booth scored one goal last year into an empty net and he posted two assists in 12 appearances. If he's not ready for the start of camp then it could open a spot for a player like Nicklas Jensen to move up.

NewsDavid Booth (ankle) hasn't resumed skating yet.
News1130 Sports on Twitter
ImpactHis agent said that the Canucks winger still has a screw in his ankle, but he remains on pace to be healthy in September. Booth had surgery on his ankle on March 22nd and he skated in just 12 games last season.
Agent: Booth fractured ankle, tore ligaments | 06/04/2013 10:17 AM
NewsDavid Booth's agent says his client actually fractured his ankle and tore ligaments when he was injured in mid-March.
ImpactBooth's injury was originally reported as a sprain, but that seemed unlikely when he needed surgery. There has been speculation the Canucks would like to use a compliance buyout on Booth, but this injury throws a pretty large monkey wrench into those plans. As long as Booth is injured, Vancouver's unable to use that tool and the serious nature of the injury means Booth is unlikely to be healthy by the buyout deadline. Booth is scheduled to count $4.25 million against the salary cap next season.
Canucks could buy out Booth and/or Ballard | 05/13/2013 5:44 PM
NewsDavid Booth may be candidate for a buyout this off-season.
ImpactHe has been hampered by injuries since joining the Vancouver Canucks from Florida and carries a $4.25 million cap hit for the next two seasons. Vancouver GM Mike Gillis said there will be changes after the team's troubling end to the 2013 campaign. It wouldn't be surprising if Booth and/or Keith Ballard may be removed from the team's roster.

NewsDavid Booth will miss the rest of the regular season following surgery on his injured ankle.

ImpactHe may return during the playoffs but that will probably depend how far the Canucks can advance and if his recover goes well. Booth has been limited to 12 games this season, where he generated only one goal and three points.

David Booth gets his second assist of 2013 | 03/11/2013 10:11 AM
NewsDavid Booth registered his second assist of the season.
ImpactBooth is still searching for his first goal after playing in nine games. He's only averaging 13:24 minutes per game and almost none of that ice time is with the man advantage. That's a big part of the reason we can't recommend him in standard leagues.
Alain Vigneault fine with play of David Booth | 03/09/2013 7:51 AM
NewsDespite having not scored a goal yet this season, Canucks coach Alain Vigneault is satisfied with the play of David Booth.
ImpactBooth has suited up in eight games since returning from injury in February and has yet to find the back of the net despite firing 20 shots on goals. Coach Vigneault identified both he and the struggling Zack Kassian as players who have suffered through bad luck of late, saying "I'm looking at Zack's game right now, and David Booth's, and they're doing everything they can possibly do to help us on the score sheet. They're not getting any breaks right now. So, what we have to do as a group, as a coaching staff, is stay supportive." Once Booth breaks his drought we like his chances of beginning a hot streak.

Jim Jamieson on Twitter
ImpactBooth has played in only three games this season due to illness and a groin injury. He's expected to take Aaron Volpatti's place in the lineup. His lack of playing time thus far and limited point value makes him a frustrating player to own, but hopefully he'll be able to stay in the lineup for longer than a week this time around.
David Booth skates on Monday | 02/26/2013 12:42 PM
NewsDavid Booth (illness) skated on Monday.
ImpactBooth could return as early as Tuesday to the lineup but will likely be a game time decision. He has only played in three games this season as he suffered a groin injury on the opening day of training camp.
David Booth out sick on Sunday | 02/24/2013 5:51 PM
NewsVancouver Canucks winger David Booth will miss yet another game, but the good news is that it's because he's sick, not injured.
Dan Murphy on Twitter
ImpactHe's barely been action this season and he's already missing more. That's very frustrating for those who went out on a limb to draft him, but at least he just has some sort of sickness.
David Booth moves up to third line | 02/21/2013 11:55 AM
NewsDavid Booth spent practice on Wednesday on the third line with Mason Raymond and Jordan Schoeder.
ImpactBooth played his first game of the season on Tuesday on the fourth line and it was thought he would move up the depth chart. Look for him to eventually get second line minutes for the Canucks. He is worth a shot in deeper leagues, especially if he sees power play time.
Canucks defend Jannik Hanssen's hit on Hossa | 02/20/2013 1:57 PM
NewsVancouver head coach Alain Vigneault says he saw nothing wrong with Jannik Hanssen's hit to the head of Chicago's Marion Hossa, suggesting the officials got bullied into a penalty by Chicago captain Jonathan Toews.
ImpactUnfortunately for the Hawks, Hossa's game was stopped 70 seconds into the third when Jannik Hansen seemed to inadvertently hit him from behind on a play that started with the Dane and Hossa going for the puck. It was chilling to see Hossa lying on the ice in the aftermath, motionless with an apparent head injury. Instantly you think back to what ended his playoffs last season when a cheap, vicious Raffi Torres head shot forced Hossa out of the game on a stretcher. The NHL will hold a hearing with Hanssen today. "It wasn't even a penalty," Vancouver coach Alain Vigneault said. "Both the referees looked at the play, and until (Chicago captain Jonathan) Toews went out to talk to them it wasn't a penalty." What about supplementary discipline for Hansen? "Not a chance," Vigneault said. "He was trying to grab a puck in the air." Canucks forward David Booth said: "For my perspective, there was zero intent to injure there."

NewsDavid Booth (groin) has been medically cleared to play.
ImpactBooth has been out of action since the first day of training camp. It is possible that he could be reinstated in time for tonight's game against Chicago and if he is, he will see fourth line duty. "I know if I need him to play, I can use him," Coach Alain Vigneault said. "We'll make that call Tuesday. He's practiced enough and if it's his call, he would want to be in." Stay tuned.
David Booth skates hard at practice | 02/12/2013 12:31 PM
NewsDavid Booth (groin) skated hard at practice Monday.
ImpactBooth has been out since the first day of training camp and there is still no timetable for his return although to be skating hard has to be a good sign. Consider him day-to-day for now.
David Booth not likely to return to ice soon | 02/10/2013 8:55 AM
NewsWhile the exact timeframes are uncertain, winger David Booth expects that Ryan Kesler will return to action before he does.
ImpactBooth continues to rehab a groin injury he suffered prior to the season while undergoing the team's fitness test. He's an integral part of the Canucks' secondary scoring presence and will likely find himself paired with Kesler once each of the team return to full participation.
David Booth skates on Sunday | 02/04/2013 12:50 PM
NewsDavid Booth (groin) skated before practice on Sunday.
ImpactHe did not stay on the ice when the regulars showed up for practice and coach Alain Vigneault said there were no new updates on Booth. Booth was supposed to be out four-six weeks with the strained groin and that would mean a return in mid-late February if he is on target.

Canucks on Twitter
ImpactBooth apparently injured himself during the pre-camp physicals. The month-plus timeline is an absolute killer in this shortened season and it's possible we won't see Booth back in action until the middle of March. While originally thought he could reach 30 points in 48 games, that projection takes a drastic hit given the injury. Owners should back away from Booth in almost all formats at this point.
