NewsDave Bolland appears as though he will center Chicago's second line in Game 3 Monday night.
ImpactHe played between Patrick Kane and Patrick Sharp during the regular season, but his groin injury moved Michal Handzus into that role in the playoffs. With Bolland back in the lineup now, it was only a matter of time before he was moved back up. The Blackhaws will be hoping that Bolland's pesky and physical style will open up holes for his talented linemates.

ImpactBolland missed the final couple of games of the regular season in addition to the first round of the playoffs with a groin injury but was back between Andrew Shaw and Bryan Bickell on the third line. "We had some good chances and we felt good. It felt like we got that chemistry back," Bickell said. "For his first game back, I thought (Bolland) played pretty well. The first period for our whole team was OK, but the second and third we picked it up, and he had a good second and third, too."

ImpactBolland did not play in the last week of the season and also missed the first round of the playoffs with his groin injury but was at practice Saturday between Andrew Shaw and Viktor Stalberg. "I've been successful on the third line, that's sort of been my thing," Bolland said. "This year has been an up-and-down roller coaster. That's in the past, this is now, and you have to concentrate on the playoffs. (Third line is) where I've played and where I've had most of my success - but whatever happens, happens." Bolland has been a very good scorer during his NHL career in the playoffs with 14 goals and 37 points in 49 games.

Bolland suited up in a match with St. Louis on April 4, but hasn't played since after he aggravated something. "It was about a 102 mph shot. It goes by pretty quick," Bolland said. "I sort of just aggravated it again. When things like that happen, they're always a pain in the (butt). You feel like you're ready, and it aggravates it a little bit." Bolland had been doing a solid job of filling that long-troublesome second-line center spot, and if he were to miss any time, it would be a serious blow to the Hawks' depth up the middle. ImpactBolland played on the third line last season and still managed 19 goals and 37 points so he could be looking at a 25-30 point campaign in the 48 game schedule. "We've talked about giving him an expanded role on our team for some time, and the time is now," GM Stan Bowman said. "On some of our playoff runs, he has ability to do things offensively. In that role, it's probably more important that a player has the awareness to play in his own end. We have some high-end offensive players on wings. He doesn't have to surpass them; just play the defensive role on that line and be able to read off them, which Dave can do." Take him as a late sleeper in deeper pools if you can.

ImpactWe are sure Bolland was referring to players who stayed in North America and practiced rather than heading overseas to play. Bolland got himself in hot water in late November when he retweeted a comment about "wanting Bettman dead". He regretted doing so immediately but it became a rather big incident for a couple of days in the hockey world.
