|Assets:||Has great size and strength for the wing position. Is defensively responsible in his own zone, and can dominate along the boards. Has an excellent wrist shot and some untapped offensive ability.|
|Flaws:||Lacks consistency. May never meet offensive expectations because of average skating ability. Must always use his 6-4 frame to his advantage in order to be an effective winger, but he forgets that sometimes.|

Bickell's goal streak extends to four games | 10/27/2013 9:27 AM
NewsBryan Bickell is on a four-game goal scoring streak.
ImpactBickell got off to an anemic start to the season from an offensive perspective so even after this impressive run he still has just five points in 11 games. He might be worth grabbing if you don't mind grabbing hot players and then dumping them once they cool down, but he shouldn't be counted on to get more than 50 points in 2013-14.
Bryan Bickell finds comfort level on 3rd line | 10/23/2013 9:13 AM
NewsBryan Bickell has recorded a goal in two straight games after failing to find the back of the net in his first seven outings.

Bryan Bickell nets his first goal of 2013-14 | 10/20/2013 9:40 AM
NewsBryan Bickell scored his first goal of the season on Saturday.
ImpactBickell has only recorded 11 shots on goal in eight games, but three of those came on Saturday. He's certainly capable of doing better than his current showing of two points in eight games, but we still can't recommend holding onto him in standard leagues.
Bryan Bickell not getting it done offensively | 10/14/2013 10:56 AM
NewsBryan Bickell has zero goals, one assist and seven shots in five games this year.
Impact"I think I get in the mind-set of, 'If Toews and Kane can do it, why can't I?'" Bickell said. "But I can't think like that. I've got to think about what got me here, what worked, and repeat it in my head every game. The last couple of games, I've been getting away from it." To be effective he needs to bang and crash while going hard to the goal. Bickell has to get back to playing a rugged game similar to the one he played during the playoffs. If he doesn't start producing points then he could find himself back on the Blackhawks' third line on a regular basis.
Bryan Bickell wants to bring playoff mind-set | 09/25/2013 8:46 AM
NewsBryan Bickell doesn't appear to be worried about living up to his four-year, $16 million contract this year.
Impact"I need to have that same mind-set I had in the playoffs all year," Bickell said. "I felt I was focused and really learned what I needed to do to be the player I want to be. I feel if I bring that focus and my best game - or something close to it - every night, I'll be playing good hockey. I just need to do that." He's expected to start the year on a line with Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, so he'll be expected to produce.

"You know Q, sometimes he changes it back and forth," Bickell said. "But hopefully it starts out that way." The three of them formed Chicago's best line in the playoffs, but during the season Quenneville typically likes to utilize Toews and Kane on separate lines.

ImpactBickell was a depth player with Chicago in 2009-10 when they previously won the Stanley Cup. He played in 16 regular season games and four playoff contests, which wasn't enough to make the cut. "From being a part of that 2010 team and having everything but that one thing, that stuck in my head for a while," said Bickell. "It just pushed me even more to get my name on it." Between finally getting his name on the Cup, getting married, and getting a contract extension, the last couple of months have been tremendous for Bickell.

Impact"Planning a wedding in Europe (he played overseas during the NHL lockout and couldn't help his fiancee with wedding plans) was tough, we didn't have phones, we only used emails," he told fans at the Blackhawks' convention Saturday. "Even during the playoff crunch, she'd be like, 'Hey, can you help me?' I said, 'No, I've got to concentrate.' Right after hockey was over, she was right there waiting for me to say, 'OK, let's go into wedding mode.' I've got a week left so I'm going to fight through it."
Bryan Bickell thinks he'll be ready to play | 07/27/2013 10:27 AM
NewsBryan Bickell showed off the matching scars near each hand on Friday.
Impact"The hand specialist likes the Zeds," the Blackhawks winger said Friday while holding out his left hand to display the z-shaped scar as a result of thumb surgery earlier this month. "I tore my tendon. I got slashed in one (postseason) series and there was swelling and a cyst. It was blocking blood flow and my thumb (tendon) was disintegrating." Bickell, who signed a four-year, $16 million contract in June, played much of the Hawks' run to the Stanley Cup with a thumb injury but it was shortly after the season the most damage was done - and it occurred right in front of team athletic trainer Mike Gapski. "I picked up my hockey bag and it just popped," Bickell said. "It has been three or four weeks and it's a lot better than it was," Bickell said. "Every day it's getting better. I think it will be ready for the regular season."

Report:Chicago inks Bryan Bickell for 4 years | 06/30/2013 8:24 PM
NewsThe Chicago Blackhawks signed Bryan Bickell to a four-year deal reportedly worth $15.2 million.
ImpactThat's a handsome raise for a guy with just 90 points in 220 regular season games. Apparently Chicago's focused on the nine goals and 17 points he collected in 23 postseason contests. That 18.4 shooting percentage isn't likely to stick around, but he could still be fantasy-relevant if he draws high-end linemates.

Pierre LeBrun on Twitter

Bickell's injury influenced line mixing | 06/26/2013 8:47 AM
NewsBlackhawks coach Joel Quenneville explained that Bryan Bickell's Grade-II knee sprain was the reason he was taken off the top line.
ImpactThe line change came at the start of the Stanley Cup Final. "We were trying to preserve [Bickell] and get some balance at the same time," Quenneville said. "We didn't want heavy minutes with him against [Zdeno] Chara basically on one leg." Bickell has come with a $541,667 annual cap hit, but his contract will expire this summer. Bickell is in line for a sizable raise, which means he might have to leave Chicago given that they probably don't have the cap space to accommodate the soon-to-be unrestricted free agent.

Bickell still came through with one goal and three assists in Chicago's three straight wins, including the game-tying goal in Monday's Cup-clinching Game 6 victory. It's safe the say the impending free agent earned himself a hefty raise with his postseason performance.

Bickell is slated to become an unrestricted free agent in the off-season and is certainly in line for a hefty raise over the $600,000 (before being pro-rated due to the shortened schedule) he earned this season.

ImpactBickell wrote in a blog at NHL.com that his "job now to help us win the Stanley Cup is to battle with and try to control Chara. It's not easy, but it's my role right now on the line I'm on with Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews. I've got to thrive in it because when I do I know it opens up ice for them. Chara is a big man. He covers a lot of ice. He's the best defensive defenseman in the (NHL) today. But we need to wear him down and I need to hit him at any chance I get to slow him down and get him out of position. The battle with him for position in front of the net is difficult but I need to stick with it because I know if both of us get to the front of the net that plays to our advantage. He's a big man and if he's in front he can help us out by screening (Boston goalie) Tuukka Rask. I like this challenge of facing Chara and battling with him. It's intimidating and exciting. I don't know that a lot of the guys in the league want to battle against him. . ."

He's having a great playoff," Toews said of Bickell. "We work hard, get the puck back, get chances. We're cycling the puck and he's playing smart hockey. He's not giving the puck away, he's holding onto it, keeping the play alive. He had a heck of a shot late in the game that hit the crossbar. When the two of us can make some plays and open up space for him, he's a dangerous guy, too." Bickell registered two assists, giving him 15 points in 21 playoff games.

"Yeah, it worked good late in the L.A. series," Bickell said. "We had a couple goals, with Kaner's hat trick to finish up the series. Hopefully it sparks each other and the team." With the Stanley Cup final still to come, Bickell is likely to get a hefty raise, which could make things difficult for the Blackhawks. ImpactBickell is set to become an unrestricted free agent this season, but he doesn't want to be one of those players that ends up playing for a lot of different teams. "The core guys here I've been with for a long time. ... Hopefully, I can have my career here," Bickell said. "It's one of the best organizations in the league and our team is good, the city is good, our fans, everything put together." Bickell has six goals and 16 points in 28 games this season. He's been a steal in 2013 with his $541,667 annual cap hit, but Chicago doesn't have a lot of cap room for the 2013-14 campaign, so re-signing Bickell will be tricky.

Bryan Bickell bounces back from rough 2011-12 | 02/15/2013 9:55 AM
NewsBryan Bickell has bounced back nicely from his disappointing 2011-12 campaign.
ImpactBickell had nine goals and 24 points in 71 games last season, but he's recorded seven points in 13 contests in 2013. He also has been throwing his body around to pick up a team-leading 29 hits. "I need to be consistent. My mindset needs to be ready to keep my feet moving and hit," Bickell said. "I know if I hit I'll get myself and my teammates into the game. We'll get space out there, get fans going." He's a fringe player in standard leagues, but a nice pickup if your league rewards hits.
Bryan Bickell sees 2011-12 as a 'speed bump' | 01/11/2013 10:42 PM
NewsBryan Bickell considers last season a "speed bump."
ImpactBickell is looking to bounce back this season and it should help that he got 27 points in 28 games in the Czech league during the lockout. "Being overseas and coming into this season where I am now, I feel good and I need to . help this team out," Bickell said. Out concern is that Bickell won't get top-six minutes with the Chicago Blackhawks. Unless he manages to work his way onto one of the top two lines, his fantasy value will be minimal at best.
Bryan Bickell made most of time | 01/10/2013 1:12 AM
NewsBryan Bickell asserted himself nicely for Czech team Orlo Znojmo.
ImpactBickell scored nine goals and 18 assists for 27 points in 28 games. He's generally only intriguing in extremely deep fantasy leagues, although he's obviously more interesting if he can generate at the 37-point level (as in 2010-11) than last season's 24 points.
