Ryan Jones likely to play out the string | 04/20/2013 8:08 AM
NewsDue to the injury suffered by Lennart Petrell forward Ryan Jones will likely be in the lineup for every game down the stretch for the Oilers.
ImpactJones is set to become a free agent this summer and though he would like to remain with the Oilers, the team has not yet decided on their interest in him going forward. "It's really important for us to take a really good look at Ryan Jones here and give him the opportunity to be the player he can be for the Edmonton Oilers," said head coach Ralph Krueger. He's not worthy of a roster spot in most fantasy leagues.
Ryan Jones: Not hard to hate Flames, Canucks | 03/30/2013 11:50 AM
NewsAfter a seven-game hiatus, the Edmonton Oilers dive back into the Northwest Division with a set of four games against the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames, starting tonight with Vancouver in Edmonton.
Impact"When you look at the big picture, it's not hard to hate these teams," said the Oilers' Ryan Jones. "Vancouver? They're the New York Yankees of hockey. They're an easy team to get up for ... . Both of these teams are going to demand our best." Edmonton is 5-2-2 in its last nine games while the Canucks have won six straight. "These four games are going to be huge for us," said captain Shawn Horcoff.
Oilers missing something, Ryan Jones laments | 03/21/2013 10:45 AM
NewsA 3-1 lead for the Edmonton Oilers deteriorated into a 4-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks Wednesday night and right winger Ryan Jones says the team needs to find whatever it's missing late in games.
Impact"It's just tough, that's a game that not only did we need the two points, but I thought we deserved them, for the most part," Jones said in a quiet Oilers room after the game. "We just need to find that little bit of whatever it is to get through the end of the game."
Ryan Jones struggled to play through flu | 03/20/2013 9:37 AM
NewsRyan Jones had difficulty when he initially tried to play through his recent flu.
Impact"I got the flu and tried to play through it in Colorado then sat the next game," Jones said. "It was tough, it's like being sick any other time and trying to play a hockey game. It was draining and I got fatigued quick, especially in Colorado where the air is thin." Jones missed Edmonton's game against Detroit on Friday, but returned on Sunday. He's still searching for his first goal of the season.
Ryan Jones makes successful return to Oilers | 02/24/2013 11:48 AM
NewsVeteran right winger Ryan Jones made his 2013 debut Saturday afternoon, returning to the Oilers from an eye injury suffered during the lockout.
ImpactJones got slightly more than 14 minutes of ice time, a good portion of it killing the seven minor penalties the Oilers took in a 3-2 come-from-behind shootout win over the Phoenix Coyotes. "I was nervous before that game for sure, that excited nervousness," said Jones. "At the same time, I was telling myself to just play simple and not do anything to harm the team. As far as playing with my line went, I was just going to throw everything at the net. If didn't see a pass that I could immediately make, I was going to throw it at the net and see if we can make something happen. There were a couple of chances that we had that almost ended up in the back of the net, a bounce here or a bounce there, then we would have had one."

Ryan Jones could return on Saturday | 02/21/2013 9:58 AM
NewsRyan Jones (eye) could return to the Oilers lineup as early as Saturday.
ImpactJones suffered an eye injury while practicing before the lockout ended and can't wait to get back into the lineup. "We've got Ryan in the starting blocks," coach Ralph Krueger said. "He's such a character player for us. We can get him some battle drills in practice, but there's nothing that can replace being in an actual game. We'll start him slow when he returns. Six or seven minutes and then work his way into the 14 to 15-minute (a game) player." He is a bottom six forward so he should not be on your radar unless you are in a very, very deep league.
Ryan Jones (eye) is cleared for contact | 02/15/2013 11:22 AM
NewsRyan Jones (eye) has been given the green light to participate in contact drills.
ImpactJones hasn't played yet this season. "Obviously, I would have liked to have played four weeks ago, but that wasn't in my best (interest)," he said. "I do feel really good out there. Surprisingly good. I had a good base before the injury, but for three weeks I couldn't do anything. That was horrible for me. I'm slowly getting back, but I'm not going to lie - you can definitely feel it in your lungs when you get out and start battling against guys." He might return to the Oilers' lineup within the next week.
Ryan Jones still at least a few weeks away | 02/12/2013 11:05 AM

Jones (eye) will wear a visor when he returns | 01/17/2013 11:51 AM
NewsAfter taking a puck to the eye at a conditioning camp, Ryan Jones has decided that he will wear a visor while playing hockey from now on.
ImpactJones will be sidelined until at least early February, but it could have been much worse. "The doctor said it wasn't in my field of vision, so I'm pretty lucky," he said. "The doctor said my reaction saved me. If I'd turned to see what was coming, I'd have lost my eye for good. I count my blessings. It's not just my livelihood, it's one of your senses. I'm happy to have my vision. I'm almost back to normal. It's irritated in the corners of my eye, which is why it's red, but that's it."
Oilers Ryan Jones thankful he didn't lose eye | 01/08/2013 10:44 AM
NewsAfter taking a puck in the eye at a conditioning camp in Minnesota last week, Edmonton forward Ryan Jones will be sidelined until early February, at least.
ImpactJones had surgery. "Obviously," Jones said, "I'm thankful I still have my eye, that I can see. I flinched when the puck was coming, I like to think that saved me. The extent of the injury could have been a lot worse, so I'm choosing to stay positive. I'll be back playing, that's for sure, it's just a matter of what the timeline is."
Ryan Jones has eye surgery after injury | 01/07/2013 11:21 AM
NewsEdmonton Oilers winger Ryan Jones suffered an eye injury last week that required surgery.
ImpactJones suffered the injury while practicing in Minnesota. "Errant puck that came off a stick. He's had surgery," Oilers GM Steve Tambellini said. Tambellini was unaware as to the extent of the severity of the injury but noted that Jones would not return to Edmonton for a few weeks. Downgrade the bottom six forward in your pool as he should not be drafted with an injury that could keep him out of action for a while.
