|Assets:||Is strong on the puck, has a good shot and the instincts of a scorer. He works hard to improve his all-round game. Has a decent frame and great hands, which he uses effectively down low near the opposing net.|
|Flaws:||Gets to where he needs to be, but isn't a great skater. Nor is he a physical player, so he's a bit of a one-trick pony. Needs to keep his motor going consistently in order to produce. He's only OK defensively.|

NewsMatt Moulson recorded a team-high three shots on goal for the Sabres in their 1-0 overtime setback to the Devils on Saturday night.
ImpactMoulson only has four of his 10 goals with the Sabres since the trade with the Islanders, but he's still getting shots on net. Marcus Foligno had a fighting major, while Mike Weber finished with a game-high four hits.
Matt Moulson scores in loss to Canadiens | 11/27/2013 10:57 PM
NewsMatt Moulson scored his ninth goal of the season in Buffalo's 3-1 loss to Montreal Wednesday night.
ImpactMoulson's fantasy prospects appeared doomed when he was traded to Buffalo, but he has held up his end of the bargain with 10 points in 13 contests with the Sabres. Drew Stafford drew the only assist on Moulson's tally.
Matt Moulson hasn't scored a goal in 10 games | 11/24/2013 4:17 PM
NewsThe Buffalo News' John Vogl points out that Matt Moulson hasn't scored a goal in his last 10 games.
John Vogl on Twitter
ImpactThat's a bit of selective stats, however, as he has a perfectly respectable seven assists in that span. Still, fantasy owners add him for his sniping, so the criticism is understandable. He's had 19 SOG in those 10 games, so if he ups his attempts just a bit he should work things out.
Matt Moulson has averaged a PPG in Buffalo | 11/17/2013 9:15 AM
NewsMatt Moulson registered an assist in Buffalo's 4-2 loss on Saturday.
ImpactIt was anticipated that Moulson's fantasy value would take a hit when a trade moved him from the New York Islanders to Buffalo Sabres. After all he was moving from an offensively gifted team where he played alongside John Tavares to an anemic one that had nobody that approached Tavares' caliber. So far he's managed to beat those expectations by scoring two goals and nine points in nine games. That hasn't been enough for Buffalo though, as the team still has the league's lowest goals per game and the worst record.
Matt Moulson helps Sabres defeat Kings | 11/13/2013 6:34 AM
NewsMatt Moulson contributed two assists in Buffalo's 3-2 shootout win over Los Angeles Tuesday night.
ImpactHe logged just 10:50 of ice time when the top line was benched in the Sabres' 6-2 loss to Anaheim last Friday. They rebounded in Tuesday's win over the Kings, as Cody Hodgson scored two goals in regulation and Moulson had a hand in both of them. Moulson also scored in the shootout.
Matt Moulson 'embarrassed' by benching | 11/10/2013 7:43 AM
NewsMatt Moulson was warming the bench for the last 26:11 minutes of Buffalo's 6-2 loss to Anaheim on Friday.
Impact"It's the most embarrassed I've been in my career," Moulson said. Sabres coach Ron Rolston cited Moulson's effort level as the reason for the benching. Buffalo has been terrible so far this season, but Moulson still has two goals and six points in six games since he was sentenced to them via a trade with the New York Islanders.
Moulson, Girgensons get 2 assists each Tues. | 11/06/2013 7:22 AM

NewsMatt Moulson failed to register a shot on goal in his second game as a member of the Buffalo Sabres.
ImpactAfter he recorded a pair of goals in his first game with the team, Moulson fell back to Earth in his second, posting a minus-1 rating in 17:28 of ice time.
Matt Moulson admits to being nervous Monday | 10/29/2013 6:51 AM
NewsMatt Moulson admitted to be very nervous going into his Buffalo debut Monday night.
Impact"I'm not going to lie," Moulson said. "That was the most nervous I've been for a game since probably my first game I played in the NHL. I had a bit of butterflies in the stomach, and it kind of settled me down out there." He scored two goals on four shots and logged 19:48 of ice time in a memorable debut with the Sabres. Unfortunately, for him and Buffalo the game ended up as a 4-3 loss to the Dallas Stars.
Matt Moulson scores twice in Sabres debut | 10/28/2013 10:13 PM
NewsMatt Moulson registered a pair of goals for Buffalo in a 4-3 loss to Dallas MOnday night.
ImpactEager to prove his worth in the absence of former teammate John Tavares, Moulson took advantage of the front line role he was afford by Sabres coach Ron Rolston and tallied twice in addition to firing four shots on goal. His arrival seems to have sparked Tyler Ennis, who generated two assists in the loss, while Steve Ott also found the back of the net for Buffalo.
Matt Moulson to make Sabres debut Monday | 10/28/2013 4:54 PM
NewsMatt Moulson will make his Buffalo debut Monday night when Dallas visits.
ImpactCoach Ron Rolston plans to have Moulson take Thomas Vanek's spot on the top line with center Cody Hodgson. Brian Flynn is projected to join Moulson and Hodgson. Moulson notched six goals and three assists in 11 games with the Islanders prior to the move.
Matt Moulson wanted long-term deal with Isles | 10/28/2013 9:23 AM
NewsMatt Moulson wanted to negotiate a long-term deal with the Islanders in the off-season according to Newsday.
ImpactArthur Staple of Newsday heard rumblings that Moulson was not happy that the Islanders did not begin negotiating in the off-season and then when Josh Bailey and Travis Hamonic were signed to long-term deals, and nothing was happening with him, disappointment set in. Look for Moulson to take a hit fantasy-wise as the Sabres do not have a Tavares or anyone close to his stature. Moulson will likely get dealt closer to the trade deadline and likely to a contender so he should regain a lot of his fantasy value at that time.
Matt Moulson dealt to Sabres for Thomas Vanek | 10/27/2013 8:43 PM
NewsThe Buffalo Sabres have acquired left winger Matt Moulson from the New York Islanders in exchange for forward Thomas Vanek.
ImpactAlso dealt to the Sabres for their top gunner were a first round draft pick in 2014 and a 2015 second round pick. Moulson is no slouch. He emerged as a very competent sidekick to Isles superstar John Tavares. He scored 15 goals and added 29 assists in 47 games in 2013. Moulson has scored six goals and three assists with the Islanders in 11 games so far in 2013-14. Like Vanek, Moulson is set to become an unrestricted free agent at season's end.

NewsMatt Moulson scored twice in a the Islanders' 5-4 overtime loss to Vancouver Tuesday night.
ImpactMoulson's five goals on the season tie him with Frans Nielson, who also scored Tuesday night, for the team lead. Through nine games, Moulson is fourth on New York with eight points.

NewsMatt Moulson scored once and added two assists as he and the New York Islanders were edged 4-3 by the visiting Carolina Hurricanes Saturday night.
ImpactMoulson's goal, scored on a power play, was his third of the season. Also scoring for the Isles were Frans Neilsen (fourth) and Kyle Okposo (third).
Matt Moulson forced to play on Friday | 10/14/2013 9:55 AM
NewsMatt Moulson was forced to play on Friday after his wife gave birth to their second child but the pressure came from Moulson's family and not the Islanders.
New York Newsday
ImpactIslanders coach Jack Capuano gave Moulson the choice of whether or not to meet the team in Chicago for that night's game or meet up with the team in Nashville. "I love to play hockey. I love my family more than hockey, but my wife and my in-laws were pretty insistent that I get to the game," Moulson said. "My wife is a strong woman. I wouldn't have left her if I didn't think she could handle it. If I played poorly, it had nothing to do with that." Moulson's wife's sister is married to Jonathan Quick of the Kings so his in-laws really are involved with hockey. By the way, Moulson played 18:12 minutes against the Blackhawks with a rare minor and a couple of shots on goal.
| 10/13/2013 2:23 AM
NewsMatt Moulson returned to action on Saturday October 12.

Contract matter won't affect me: Matt Moulson | 09/21/2013 11:00 AM
NewsMatt Moulson vows that he will remain unaffected by the fact that he's entering the final year of his contract with the New York Islanders.
New York Newsday
ImpactMoulson said: "I'm going to play the same way, try to get better. Every single year, you want to have a career year for yourself, no matter what year of your contract that you're in." Moulson has thrived as John Tavares' near-permanent wing man since 2009-10, producing 214 points, among the 40 top NHL scorers over that span. Some might view him as a player who needs a star like Tavares to get him going, but there would be no shortage of teams wanting to sign a three-time 30-goal scorer should he hit the open market on July 1.
Moulson, Isles have had no extension talks | 08/08/2013 6:23 PM
NewsMatt Moulson and the New York Islanders haven't had any talks regarding a contract extension for the left winger, according to Newsday's Arthur Staples.
Arthur Staple on Twitter
ImpactMoulson is entering the final year of his contract, but the 29-year old told Staples a new deal isn't on his radar. "Thats what I pay my agent for. I'm going to try to help this team win games and make sure my mind's on that," Moulson said. Moulson has had a bit of a coming-out party over the past two seasons, scoring 51 goals and 113 points while skating on the Isles' top line with John Tavares. Even if they haven't started talks yet, we'd be surprised if the Isles didn't at least have some sort of conversation fairly soon.
Moulson loses Lady Byng again | 06/15/2013 11:01 AM
NewsDespite the fact that he received only two minor penalties this season, Matt Moulson did not win the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy for sportsmanship.
New York Newsday
ImpactThe trophy is awarded "to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability." Moulson has registered 113 points in 129 games over the past two seasons and has been assessed a grand total of five minor penalties over that span. Yet, he lost the trophy last season to Florida's Brian Campbell and this season to Tampa's Martin St. Louis. We are betting 2013-14 is his year.
Matt Moulson up for Lady Byng Trophy | 05/16/2013 10:29 AM
NewsMatt Moulson is a nominee for the 2013 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy.
ImpactMoulson was also a finalist in 2012, but lost to Brian Campbell. Moulson had 44 points and four penalty minutes in 47 games.
Matt Moulson records second playoff marker | 05/06/2013 11:48 AM
NewsMatt Moulson scored his second goal of the playoffs in Sunday's overtime loss to Pittsburgh.
ImpactHe has worked well with Kyle Okposo, who picked up one of the assists along with defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky, since being separated from John Tavares. The two of them will probably get some shifts together as the series moves along, but the changes have worked out well so far for the Islanders' offense despite Pittsburgh's 2-1 series lead.
Moulson and Tavares split works! | 05/04/2013 12:00 PM
NewsThe move to split Matt Moulson and John Tavares up seemed to work quite well.
ImpactBoth were productive in the Islanders' 4-3 win over the Penguins Friday night. Moulson scored a goal and registered an assist, while Tavares recorded a power-play helper. No telling if Isles' coach John Capuano will continue to play Joshua Bailey on Tavares' wing or will restore Mouslon to his regular spot.
Matt Moulson moves off John Tavares' line | 05/03/2013 7:25 PM
NewsMatt Moulson has been moved off John Tavares' wing and onto the second line.
Arthur Staple on Twitter
ImpactWe point this out because the two have been nearly inseparable over the last four years, forming one of the best one-two punches in hockey. Moulson had 15 goals and 29 assists this year. Joshua Bailey, who had 11 goals and 19 points this season, has been moved up to left wing on the first line. For something that has worked so well, this screams of something of a desperation move, though we can understand that coach Jack Capuano wants to balance the lineup more.
Matt Moulson gets 2 points in return from flu | 04/10/2013 10:47 AM
NewsMatt Moulson recorded a goal and an assist Tuesday night after missing one game with the flu.

Matt Moulson ends lengthy goal drought | 04/02/2013 10:17 PM
NewsMatt Moulson snapped his 13-game goalless drought with his 12th goal in Tuesday's 5-2 win over Winnipeg.
ImpactHe also had an assist and eight shots in the match. John Tavares finished the contest with a goal and an assist as well, while Brad Boyes and Mark Streit contributed two assists each. Frans Nielsen scored the game-winning goal on a power play, while Anders Lee sniped his first career marker.
Matt Moulson has 10 assists in 11 games | 04/01/2013 10:31 AM
NewsMatt Moulson hasn't scored a goal since March 5, but he isn't exactly struggling.
New York Newsday
ImpactMoulson has recorded 10 assists in his last 11 games. He's known more for his ability to find the back of the net after reaching the 30-goal milestone in three consecutive campaigns. His shooting percentage is way down this season, but he's been finding other ways to succeed with 11 goals and 35 points in 35 games.
Matt Moulson | 03/10/2013 10:18 AM
NewsMatt Moulson played in his 270th straight contest for the New York Islanders Saturday.
Official website of the New York Islanders
ImpactMoulson hasn't missed a contest since joining the Islanders in the summer of 2009. The Cornell University graduate has had three straight 30-goal seasons and is enjoying once again a career year playing alongside John Tavares. Moulson currently has 26 points in 25 games in this 48-game shortened season.
Matt Moulson is on a three-game point streak | 02/25/2013 11:36 AM
NewsMatt Moulson had a goal and an assist on Sunday.
New York Newsday
ImpactMoulson now has six points in his last three games. He set a career-high with 69 points last season and from a purely point-per-game perspective, he might do even better in the shortened campaign. Moulson already has 10 goals and 23 points in just 19 games.
Matt Moulson reaches paydirt twice in win | 02/22/2013 12:04 AM
NewsMatt Moulson scored his eighth and ninth goals of the season as the Islanders came back to enjoy a 4-3 overtime win over Montreal.
ImpactMoulson may be riding the coattails of superstar John Tavares, but he displayed great touch on a deflection for his first goal and showed a powerful trigger for his second. Frans Nielsen and Thomas Hickey also scored markers for the Isles while Tavares picked up a pair of assists.
Moulson, Tavares a dangerous duo for Isles | 02/18/2013 11:27 AM
NewsMatt Moulson and John Tavares have arguably become one of the league's top duos.
ImpactSince Tavares entered the league at 18 at the start of the 2009-10 season, Moulson has 104 goals, good for ninth in the NHL during that span. He's had three straight 30-goal seasons, jump-starting his career as a 26-year-old. This season he has seven goals and 17 points, while Tavares has 11 goals and 20 points. We know what Tavares can do, but Moulson is an excellent play as well so long as he has Tavares centering him.
Matt Moulson gets four points Saturday | 02/16/2013 10:38 PM
NewsMatt Moulson had a goal and three assists in the Islanders' 5-1 victory on Saturday.
ImpactMichael Grabner netted his sixth goal of the season. Brad Boyes registered two assists to give him 12 points in 14 contests in 2013.
Moulson ends goal drought with two markers | 02/12/2013 10:19 AM
NewsMatt Moulson notched two power-play goals and added an assist in the Islanders' 6-4 loss to Carolina on Monday night.
New York Newsday
ImpactThe two-goal outburst snapped a five-game goalless drought for the 29-year-old forward. Despite the slump, Moulson has been productive this campaign with six markers and 13 points in 12 matches. He added five shots in Monday's defeat to give him 40 shots total on the year. Riding shotgun with star player John Tavares has its advantages, but Moulson deserves plenty of credit in his own right for being able to capitalize on his chances.
Matt Moulson picks up two points in win | 01/30/2013 12:29 AM
NewsMatt Moulson scored a goal and added an assist for the Islanders in a 4-1 defeat of Pittsburgh Tuesday.
ImpactMany of the usual suspects were in on the scoring for the Islanders, as John Tavares scored his second of the season while Michael Grabner buried his fourth. Frans Nielsen also dished out a pair of assists in the victory.
Moulson scores his first two goals of 2013 | 01/25/2013 9:11 AM
NewsMatt Moulson recorded his first two goals of the season in a 7-4 win for the New York Islanders on Thursday versus Toronto.
New York Newsday
ImpactThe three-time 30-goal scorer had six shots in the contest after being credited with six shots in his previous two games combined. Moulson has proven to be an effective goal scorer for the Islanders the past three seasons and riding shotgun with star player John Tavares, who had two assists on Thursday, certainly doesn't hurt either. The two of them should be productive in the shortened 2013 season.
