ImpactHe played three games with Edmonton in late October before heading down to the minors for conditioning. "I don't think (Grebeshkov) was in very good shape in that he came in then he got hurt and really fell back," coach Dallas Eakins said. "He just needed to go play, get some minutes, get his feet under him. Get his fitness level up to a higher standard. The good thing about Denis is he can break out the puck. He can make a play. That's where we've been suffering a little bit in our own zone." Grebeshkov will be paired with Justin Schultz on Thursday.

NewsDenis Grebeshkov has a groin injury.
ImpactGrebeshkov should be regarded as day-to-day for now. He's trying to reassert himself in the NHL after spending the last four seasons in the KHL. He's not expected to get many points in 2013-14 and consequently isn't likely to have any fantasy value in standard leagues.
Grebeshkov happy to be back with Oilers | 09/12/2013 10:59 AM
NewsDenis Grebeshkov is happy to be back in the NHL.
ImpactGrebeshkov played in 227 NHL games before heading to SKA St. Petersburg for the 2010-11 campaign. He spent three seasons in the KHL before inking a one-year/$1.5 million deal with Edmonton. "The reason I left the NHL was personal stuff. I was 26 years old and by himself and I wanted a family and now I have a girl . but hockey-wise I always wanted to be in the NHL," he said. His lack of offensive upside makes it hard to recommend him in standard leagues.
MacTavish: Grebeshkov should be motivated | 07/29/2013 10:13 AM
NewsEdmonton Oilers GM Craig MacTavish thinks Denis Grebeshkov will be "highly motivated" after struggling in the KHL last season.
ImpactThe Oilers took a risk when they signed Grebeshkov to a one-way deal worth $1.5 million, although that was obviously minimized by limiting the contract to a single season. Grebeshkov had 17 goals and 84 points in 227 NHL games before making the jump to the KHL. He hasn't played in North America since 2009-10 and we recommend taking a wait-and-see approach with him as opposed to selecting him towards the end of standard league drafts.

ImpactPrior to playing in the KHL, Grebeshkov spent 2007 through 2010 with the Oilers and then the Predators. He had 76 points in 190 games in his last stint in Edmonton and should be a solid option for the Oilers' final defensive pairing. He's unlikely to have a ton of fantasy value, even in the deeper formats.
