We got the news sometime before (Tuesday's) practice, but I didn't think that was the right time for the coach to call the player. He has bigger things on his mind. Taking care of his family." The funeral is on Friday, so don't expect him to be available for the Flames' season opener. We'd like to extend our condolences to Jiri Hudler and his family.

Hudler left on Monday and there is no word as to when he will return. "Hockey is really important in everybody's life, but your family always comes No. 1," coach Bob Hartley said. "I told the players that we want to be a big family. If that's the case, each individual in this organization has to take care of his own. Jiri's on his way to Prague right now."
