Josh Harding has won the 2013 Masterton Trophy.
This award honors players that demonstrate, among other things, perseverance and dedication. Harding is continuing his NHL career after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He missed a significant portion of the season, but after his return he ended up playing against the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round of the playoffs. Although Chicago ultimately won that series, Harding held his own. Sidney Crosby and Adam McQuaid were the other nominees for the award.

While fellow finalists Sidney Crosby and Adam McQuaid have their own tales and justification for their nominations, it'll be tough to be Harding for this one.

It's not a must-win game but it's pretty close. The Wild got back in the series with a Game 3 victory but they do not want to go back to Chicago down 3-1.

"I went and played and I felt good and nothing bothered me. The circumstances [in the AHL] aren't like the NHL. It's hot and humid down there, you're bussing, the travel schedule is difficult, your routines are different. And if I can play there under those circumstances, I know I could play here."

Harding hasn't practiced since Feb. 14 under doctors' orders and Fletcher's quote represents the first good bit of news we've seen regarding his health in a while. Fletcher said the next step will be putting Harding through strenuous activity and seeing how his body reacts. "Doctors are very confident we'll get to a spot where he's going to feel very good most days," Fletcher said.

Harding was supposed to start Tuesday, but will likely be replaced by call-up Darcy Kuemper. "He just feels a little bit off. What he's going through right now, he's dealing with some medications," Fletcher said Tuesday. "There's a lot of trial and error. Every situation is different. The doctors advised us of this a few weeks ago that eventually we will get to the right spot where the medication works and his body adapts to it." We wish Harding all the best and hope the illness doesn't keep him from playing in the NHL.
