Lupul says Game 7 will haunt him until death | 05/14/2013 12:34 PM
NewsJoffrey Lupul tweeted the Monday's Game 7 loss to the Boston Bruins will "haunt me until the day I die."
Joffrey Lupul on Twitter
ImpactIt's hard to blame Lupul for feeling that way after the Maple Leafs blew a three-goal lead in the third period and then lost in overtime. Lupul didn't have a point Monday night but was all over the ice and just missed on a couple of opportunities. It's unlikely anyone on the Maple Leafs will get over the feeling of collapse anytime soon, but eventually they'll move past it and start preparing for next year.
Lupul feels Leafs are 'not done' vs. Boston | 05/09/2013 1:17 PM
NewsJoffrey Lupul and the Maple Leafs didn't have a defeated attitude after Wednesday's 4-3 overtime loss to Boston.
ImpactThe Leafs trail the Bruins 3-1 heading into Game 5 on Friday night, but the club still believes they can come back. "We're not done," said Lupul. "We talked about it after the game. We think we're going in a positive direction here with our tempo and pace of play. We'll have to bring that in Boston." Lupul has three goals and four points in four games versus the Bruins in the series.
Joffrey Lupul gets goal, but Leafs fall | 05/08/2013 11:09 PM
NewsJoffrey Lupul netted a goal in Toronto's 4-3 loss to the Bruins in Game 4 of their first-round series.
ImpactLupul, who also notched an assist, has now scored three times in the series. After poor Game 3, Lupul bounced back with nine shots on goal, too. Cody Franson and Clarke MacArthur, who got the game-tying goal with 2:37 left, had the other markers. Jake Gardiner had two assists. Phil Kessel, who had an assist, and James van Riemsdyk each had eight shots on goal apiece. Dion Phaneuf finished with an astounding 10 hits and two penalty minutes, but it was his pinch in overtime that cost the Leafs the game.
Joffrey Lupul excited for home playoff game | 05/05/2013 8:22 AM
NewsWith their opening round series tied 1-1, the Maple Leafs will play their first home playoff game in nine years Monday.
ImpactJoffrey Lupul is anticipating a huge response from the home crowd at Air Canada Centre for Game Three, saying "I think it will be crazy. I'm really excited. This game's only been over for 20 minutes and I'm already thinking about playing back in Toronto. I can't wait to get out there. Hopefully, it will be crazier than ever." Lupul was one of the best Leafs in Saturday's victory as he potted a pair of goals, continuing the trend that existed for the regular season when the winger was healthy.
Lupul, Kessel power Maple Leafs past Bruins | 05/04/2013 10:14 PM
NewsJoffrey Lupul scored twice in Toronto's 4-2 victory Saturday night.
ImpactPhil Kessel, who has struggled against the Boston Bruins since they traded him to Toronto, scored the game-winner. James van Riemsdyk scored Toronto's fourth goal at 16:53 of the third period, which means that all of the Leafs goals tonight were accounted for by players that former Leafs GM Brian Burke traded for. Jake Gardiner, Carl Gunnarsson, Matt Frattin, Dion Phaneuf, Nazem Kadri, Ryan Hamilton, Mikhail Grabovski, and Nikolai Kulemin each registered an assist for the Maple Leafs.
Leafs shuffle forward lines during practice | 05/04/2013 11:08 AM
NewsThe Maple Leafs shuffled their forward lines during Friday mornings practice.
ImpactCoach Randy Carlyle didn't like what he saw Thursday night from his forwards and is hoping to get line combinations that can break through the Bruins' defense. The Leafs iced the following units Friday: Joffrey Lupul-Tyler Bozak-Phil Kessel, James van Riemsdyk-Mikhail Grabovski-Nikolai Kulemin, Leo Komarov-Nazem Kadri-Clarke MacArthur, Ryan Hamilton-Jay McClement-Colton Orr. It remains to be seen if the team will lineup this way for Saturday night's Game 2. If they do, Frazer McLaren is the big loser, while Ryan Hamilton gets a chance to play.
Leafs get Joffrey Lupul back for home stretch | 04/17/2013 11:41 AM
NewsJoffrey Lupul made his return to Toronto's lineup Tuesday night after missing five games with a concussion.
Impact"I felt fine," said Lupul, who had no points, two shots and four penalty minutes. "I just didn't get into the game early on. Not the best game to come back. It's a loss. We've got to refocus and getting ready for Thursday." Coach Randy Carlyle thought Lupul looked rusty, but he should be better in the Leafs' next contest. Lupul has been limited to 11 games this campaign due to injuries, but he's amassed eight goals and 14 points over that span. His return should help the team, as they try to secure their playoff birth.

Lupul blames himself for his concussion | 04/15/2013 10:26 AM
NewsJoffrey Lupul feels responsible for the hit that caused his concussion.
ImpactLupul suffered the injury on April 4 when he was struck by Philadelphia Flyers forwards Adam Hall and Jay Rosehill. "I was a little bit disappointed with myself for putting myself in the situation to take that hit," Lupul said. "I knew who I was on the ice with and where the puck was, and I thought I located both those guys, but I did not see which way Rosehill was coming so, I take responsibility for that. You have to protect yourself out there and I should have protected myself. Those two guys should not be taking me out of the lineup." Lupul is close to returning to the Leafs' lineup, but he won't play on Monday.

NewsToronto Maple Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle said Joffrey Lupul is, "very close to joining our hockey club again."

ImpactIt's likely that the Maple Leafs' relatively comfortable playoff position explains why Lupul has been that much more careful about how he deals with recovering from a concussion. Tough news for fantasy owners, but it's hard to fault the Leafs and Lupul for their approach.

NewsJoffrey Lupul hasn't skated for the past two days because of an "upper-body injury," which is believed to be a concussion.
ImpactHe worked on some shooting drills off the ice Wednesday. "If I was having bad symptoms, I would be home resting instead of this," Lupul said. "It's truly a day-to-day thing, just wake up in the morning and see how I'm feeling, how I'm progressing. There's really no reason for me to rush right now. I just want to make sure I'm back at 100 percent." He isn't sure when he'll return to the lineup, but he may get back on the ice Thursday.

NewsJoffrey Lupul has been selected as the NHL's first star of the week.
ImpactLupul had four goals and nine points in four games last week. Since returning from a forearm injury, he's proven that his 2011-12 breakout performance wasn't a fluke. It would not be surprising if Lupul record a point-per-game in April.

NewsJoffrey Lupul sniped a goal and added three assists on Saturday.
ImpactLupul has been on a tear since returning from a fractured forearm. "I've never played at this level before," he said late Saturday evening. "To be honest, I'm kind of just figuring it out now as I go. I didn't necessarily know I was capable of playing at this level. And now I'm figuring out that I can do a lot of things out there that other guys can't." The injury-prone forward had 67 points in 66 games last year and should be owned in all formats.
Lupul back with Kadri and Kulemin | 03/30/2013 2:26 PM
NewsAfter enjoying tremendous success on a line with Phil Kessel and Tyler Bozak in two consecutive third period comebacks, Joffrey Lupul will play on a line with Nazem Kadri and Nikolai Kulemin Saturday night against Ottawa.
ImpactToronto coach Randy Carlyle wants to spread his scoring around and will place James van Riemsdyk on Bozak and Kessel's line. Lupul is so hot right now, this re-alignment won't make a bit of difference to his fantasy value. It's a good opportunity for JVR, though. He needs to break out of a very significant scoring slump.
Lupul firing on all cylinders since return | 03/27/2013 12:23 PM
NewsJoffrey Lupul has been on a tear since returning from a fractured forearm with six goals and one assist in four games.
Impact"I didn't expect to get this start stats-wise," said Lupul. "But I knew I could add another element to our team. I truly believe I'm a better player now than I was this time last year, and that last year I was better than the year before." He registered 67 points in 66 games last season before having his career-year cut short due to injury. Lupul was sidetracked again early into this campaign because of injury as well, but he's proven to be a valuable contributor when he's been in the lineup.

J. Lupul lashes out after two-game suspension | 03/23/2013 2:19 PM
NewsJoffrey Lupul isn't happy after the NHL suspended him for two games over his hit to the head of Tampa Bay's Victor Hedman.
The Globe and Mail
Impact"The point of giving a suspension is basically to show that they've done something wrong and they're penalizing me and in turn penalizing our team," Lupul said. "When I look at it two days after and I'm still not sure what constitutes a suspension, I don't think the process is working." Lupul isn't sure why he got a suspension and Rick Nash didn't for a questionable hit Nash recently delivered. Lupul will be eligible to return on March 25.

NewsJoffrey Lupul potted a goal and had an assist in Toronto's 4-2 win over the Lightning on Wednesday night.
ImpactLupul now has goals in both games -- three goals, one assist -- since his return from a broken forearm. For anyone who thought the winger could take a while to get going again, think again. Lupul is certainly an injury risk, but he's worth starting with confidence when healthy. Dion Phaneuf, Nikolai Kulemin and Tyler Bozak were the other goal scorers for the Leafs. Nazem Kadri chipped in with three helpers.
Joffrey Lupul 'ready to go,' awaits clearance | 03/14/2013 12:44 PM

Impact"It is not my decision," Lupul said. "It's whenever I am cleared to play, I will be playing. For me, I feel good and my conditioning is fine. Ready to go when I get the green light." Coach Randy Carlyle cautioned against the team getting "too far ahead of ourselves with him participating in a limited amount in (his) first practice." That comment indicates that he probably won't return as soon as Thursday's game versus Pittsburgh, but he may not have to wait for very long. Stay tuned.

NewsJoffrey Lupul joined his Toronto teammates for about 30 minutes at practice Monday.
ImpactIt was the first he skated with the team since suffering a broken forearm on Jan. 23. Lupul also took shots with strengthening coach Anthony Belza and he worked on some turning drills with skating coach Barbara Underhill prior to the Leafs' on-ice session. "It's still day to day for me right now," Lupul said. "I'm at seven weeks right now. You don't just jump back into the lineup one day. You have to progress a bit every day. Everything felt good but we'll see how it (forearm) reacts tomorrow. That's a good indicator. But there are no complaints with the way it felt today (Monday)." He won't travel with the team for Tuesday's game at Winnipeg.

Joffrey Lupul (forearm) skates hard Wednesday | 02/21/2013 1:05 PM
NewsJoffrey Lupul (forearm) participated in Wednesday's optional practice.
Impact"It's my third day of skating so we'll see how it goes . . . it's truly day to day," said Lupul referring to his recovery from a fractured forearm. "It's the type of injury that if you rush it back, you stand the chance to get right back to square one, so we'll be careful not to let that happen." The cast on his forearm has been removed and he's been put through rigorous drills with skating coach Barbara Underhill. He did some stickhandling as well, but didn't take any shots. There's no timetable for his return, but he was originally slated to be back in mid-late March.
Joffrey Lupul resumes skating on Tuesday | 02/19/2013 4:55 PM
NewsJoffrey Lupul (fractured forearm) began skating Tuesday but is still a few weeks away from returning to action.
ImpactNow that he's skating, the next step for Lupul will be practicing with the Maple Leafs and then getting cleared for contact. Originally projected to return in mid-March, Lupul could be out a little longer than that. Stay tuned.
Report: Lupul may not be ready in mid-March | 02/13/2013 12:46 PM
NewsJoffrey Lupul says he isn't close to being able to resume skating yet, which could delay his initial projected return from a fractured forearm.
Impact"It's just kind of wait-and-see and keep working every day and make sure I'm in shape and ready to go whenever I do get cleared," Lupul told Sportsnet Tuesday. It sounds like he might not return in mid-March, but we'll keep you posted on his status as more information develops.

ImpactLupul was still wearing a cast Tuesday, so we wouldn't be too optimistic about him returning to game action for at least another three weeks, possibly another month. Lupul was injured by a shot from teammate Dion Phaneuf on Jan. 23 and was originally projected to miss a minimum of six weeks.

ImpactThere's still no timetable for Lupul's return, but obviously the Maple Leafs don't expect to have him back soon. Lupul has run into injury problems in the past and because of the condensed schedule, injuries like this could end up costing players a huge chunk of the season.
Joffrey Lupul breaks his arm on slap shot | 01/23/2013 11:40 PM
NewsJoffrey Lupul suffered a broken forearm Wednesday night.
Chris Johnston on Twitter
ImpactThe injury-prone forward was hit in the arm with a Dion Phaneuf slap shot. No timetable has been released for his return, but we can't imagine him coming back with much time, if any, to spare in the regular season. It's a shame for the Leafs, as he had just signed a five-year extension with the club and had 67 points in 67 games last year.
Carlyle mixes lines, Lupul pairs with Kadri | 01/23/2013 4:27 PM
NewsJoffrey Lupul skated with Nazem Kadri and Leo Komarov during Wednesday's morning session.
ImpactCoach Randy Carlyle wants to get more offense from his team, but he also doesn't want Pittsburgh bench boss Dan Bylsma to match his checking line against Lupul and Phil Kessel. Kessel and Tyler Bozak were joined by Clarke MacArthur instead. Lupul has been held pointless in Toronto's first two games this year, but perhaps playing with Kadri, who has been the club's top forward in the early going, can snap him out of his funk.
Leafs lock up Joffrey Lupul for five years | 01/20/2013 1:48 PM
NewsThe Toronto Maple Leafs signed Joffrey Lupul to a five-year, $26.25 million contract extension on Sunday.
TSN's Darren Dreger
ImpactThe deal reportedly includes a limited no-trade clause where he can hand the Buds a list of 14 teams he'd be willing to join. That's especially relevant to the 29-year-old winger, who's been a part of four swaps in his career. He becomes one of Toronto's few forwards locked up beyond the 2013-14 season. If healthy, he's a deep draft bargain as Phil Kessel's running mate.
