NewsJay Bouwmeester has picked up a point in five straight games.

Bouwmeester's positive effects on Pietrangelo | 11/16/2013 1:54 PM
NewsJay Bouwmeester has been a perfect partner for the talented Alex Pietrangelo.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
ImpactSince Bouwmeester arrived last season and was paired with Pietrangelo, the 23-year-old defenseman has played like a Norris Trophy candidate. Bouwmeester uses his size, speed and smarts to slow the game down and takes a bit of the load off of Pietrangelo to move the puck up the ice. Blues' coach Ken Hitchcock thinks the twosome can even play better. :I think they're still learning how to play with each other. Before Bo, Petro has always played with a player who defers the puck to him. This is the first time he's had to share the puck with somebody, and I think they're learning to play off each other still. I don't think they're at the level they're going to be at, because I think there's still some indecision on who's going and who's hanging back. Bo's always been the jumper. Here, they have to read off each other and they're still learning to do that." Bouwmeester is having a wonderful bounce-back season. Grab him if he is available.
Jay Bouwmeester picks up two assists Saturday | 10/27/2013 11:04 AM
NewsJay Bouwmeester recorded two assists in St. Louis' 6-1 win over Nashville on Saturday.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
ImpactBouwmeester has seven assists in nine contests in 2013-14. He hasn't reached the 30-point mark since 2008-09 when he was still a member of the Florida Panthers, but getting out of Calgary seems to have done wonders for his fantasy value.
Jay Bouwmeester earns 2 assists Thursday | 10/18/2013 9:52 AM
NewsJay Bouwmeester earned two assists in St. Louis' 3-2 shootout win over Chicago.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
ImpactHe has four helpers and a plus-3 rating in six games this campaign. Bouwmeester has been averaging 23:55 of ice time per contest.
Jay Bouwmeester hopes to land Olympic spot | 08/27/2013 10:38 AM
NewsJay Bouwmeester has a chance to be chosen for the 2014 Olympic hockey team.
ImpactHe served as an injury replacement for Scott Niedermayer at the 2006 Olympics in Turin and he was invited to the 2010 Olympic camp in the summer of 2009, but he didn't make the cut. "You'd like to be there," Bouwmeester said. "That's the goal for everyone. I think you learn from that. From that, you learn it's a process and you can't worry about it." "If you're picked and get to go, great, but there are a lot of great players
Jay Bouwmeester likes Blues' all-round talent | 08/03/2013 12:26 PM
NewsVeteran defenseman Jay Bouwmeester, 29, said that the reason he signed a five-year, $27-million contract extension with the St. Louis Blues is that the talent is already in place.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Impact"It seems like that they've got pretty much everyone signed now through at least the next couple of years," he said. "You've got that nucleus of guys that probably aren't going anywhere ... The fact that everyone is going to be back, and you add some guys, there's some optimism going forward." Bouwmeester was aware that the Blues wanted to make him part of that nucleus, but wasn't sure how long the club had in mind. He was impressed when GM Doug Armstrong proposed adding five years to his existing deal. "The first offer that was talked about was for that length," Bouwmeester said. "For them to show that interest and I guess have faith in me for that period of time, as a player, you view that as a real positive thing." Bouwmeester has played in 764 regular-season games, but he doesn't turn 30 until September. He will be 36 when his new contract expires.
Blues ink Jay Bouwmeester to 5-year extension | 08/01/2013 9:41 PM
NewsSt. Louis Blues sign Jay Bouwmeester to five-year, $27 million contract extension.
ImpactThe deal kicks in starting with the 2014-15 season, which means he's under contract for the next six seasons. The Blues acquire Bouwmeester from Calgary at the trade deadline and the veteran defenseman got to experience his first career postseason with St. Louis. Bouwmeester isn't the fantasy weapon he used to be, but he remain a solid depth option in most fantasy pools.
Bouwmeester will make playoffs debut soon | 04/25/2013 11:25 AM
NewsJay Bouwmeester is getting ready for his first postseason game.
ImpactBouwmeester, 29, has played in 762 career contests without participating in a playoff game. However, the St. Louis Blues have clinched a playoff berth. "I think they have a good team here, we have a team that's kind of built for that (playoff) kind of hockey," he said. "That's the focus now, it's not just getting in. We want to win. It's fun winning, we've had a pretty good stretch here. It's a young group of guys; I kind of feel a little old sometimes but it's been fun. I've enjoyed my time here -- and hopefully I have a long time here." Bouwmeester is signed through the 2013-14 campaign.
Jay Bouwmeester pots 1st goal with Blues | 04/16/2013 11:36 PM
NewsJay Bouwmeester recorded his first goal with the Blues in a 2-1 shootout win versus Vancouver on Tuesday night.
ImpactHe had three assists in his first two games with St. Louis, but had gone five straight matches without a point entering Tuesday's match-up. Still, Bouwnmeester has been a solid addition to the Blues' lineup since he was acquired from Calgary. David Perron and Alex Pietrangelo assisted on his marker, while Andy McDonald and Alexander Steen scored in the shootout to give St. Louis the win.
Jay Bouwmeester has impressive Blues debut | 04/05/2013 10:37 AM
NewsJay Bouwmeester made his debut with the St. Louis Blues on Thursday.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
ImpactBouwmeester logged 25:06 minutes, which believe it or not was still second to Alex Pietrangelo. Bouwmeester also had two PIM and assisted on David Backes' goal. The Blues earned a 4-3 shootout win and have a fragile hold on the eighth seed. Bouwmeester has now played in 751 career NHL games without ever making the postseason, but his drought might finally be nearing its end.
Bouwmeester will be paired with Pietrangelo | 04/04/2013 3:14 PM
NewsJay Bouwmeester will make his St. Louis debut Thursday night when the Blues take on Chicago.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
ImpactHe will be skate alongside Alex Pietrangelo on the team's top pairing. "I know what kind of player he is," Bouwmeester said of Pietrangelo. "He's a talented, big guy who can move the puck and skate. I'm really excited. He's right-handed. I haven't played the left side in a while. That's where I prefer to be. I just want to fit in and help out."
Bouwmeester's playoff drought could be ending | 04/03/2013 11:03 AM
NewsJay Bouwmeester's playoff drought might finally be nearing its end.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
ImpactBouwmeester has played in 750 NHL games, but has never appeared in a postseason contest. The Flames sent him to the St. Louis Blues on Monday, who are battling for a playoff spot. St. Louis is tied with the ninth place Nashville Predators in points, but the Blues have played in three less games. Still, the Blues have a tough road ahead now that Jaroslav Halak is injured and likely to miss several weeks.
Blues acquired Jay Bouwmeester from Flames | 04/01/2013 8:56 PM
NewsThe Calgary Flames have traded Jay Bouwmeester to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Mark Cundari, Reta Berra, and a conditional draft pick.
Bob McKenzie on Twitter
ImpactIf the Blues make the playoffs, then Calgary Flames will get their first rounder in 2013. If St. Louis doesn't play in the postseason, then the Flames will get their fourth round pick in 2013 and their first round pick in 2014. The Blues also acquired blueliner Jordan Leopold on Saturday. Although they were in ninth place going into Monday's games, clearly the Blues are willing to make significant sacrifices in the hope that they'll make the 2013 playoffs. After bolstering their defense over the last few days, they might surprise teams once they get there. From a fantasy perspective, this deal doesn't help Bouwmeester in any significant way. It might improve his plus/minus rating, but he won't get much power-play ice time behind Alex Pietrangelo and Kevin Shattenkirk. It's worth adding that Bouwmeester is signed through the 2013-14 campaign, so he's more than just a rental.
No captain in Calgary ok with Jay Bouwmeester | 03/30/2013 10:30 AM
NewsVeteran defenseman Jay Bouwmeester, subject of strong trade rumors, remains an assistant captain with the Calgary Flames for now.
ImpactAnd Bouwmeester shrugs off coach Bob Hartley's decision to keep the Flames captainless without the recently traded Jarome Iginla. "I don't think it matters," he explained. "Just because you don't have a captain, I mean there's lots of teams where you don't have one guy. It's a letter on a jersey. There's lots of guys in here who have played for a long time and know how to be a leader. Guys do it in different ways. (Jarome's) been here so long. You can't just replace him."
Trade rumors focus on Jay Bouwmeester | 03/29/2013 8:21 AM
NewsWith Jarome Iginla gone, the trade rumors in Calgary are now focused on Jay Bouwmeester.
ImpactBouwmeester is signed through the 2013-14 campaign, so there's less urgency to trade him. At the same time, they might want to avoid putting themselves in the position they did with Iginla: Where they refused to trade him through years of losing only to be forced to finally do so when his contract was expiring. It's worth noting that Bouwmeester, like Iginla, was given a no-movement clause, so ultimately he has a lot of control over what happens next. It's worth noting that Jay Bouwmeester has played in 749 regular season games, but has never participated in the postseason.
Flame Jay Bouwmeester subject of trade rumors | 03/21/2013 9:45 AM
NewsWith six goals and 14 points after 27 games this season, veteran defenseman Jay Bouwmeester is attracting attention in NHL trade talks.
ImpactRumors are circulating that the St. Louis Blues, Detroit Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators covet him. "I don't listen to the rumours or anything like that. I know it's out there and people talk about it, but no one really knows anything," said Bouwmeester, who has a no-trade clause and is signed for one more season before becoming an unrestricted free-agent.
Jay Bouwmeester scores in loss Monday | 03/18/2013 11:18 PM
NewsJay Bouwmeester potted a goal in the Calgary Flames' 4-3 loss to the Dallas Stars Monday night.
ImpactBouwmeester is finally showing Calgary fans why the Flames spent big money on him in 2009. With six goals and 14 points in 27 games this season, Bouwmeester is enjoying a very solid fantasy season. He should be owned in every league.
Jay Bouwmeester has been great lately | 03/14/2013 8:41 AM
NewsJay Bouwmeester netted his fifth goal of the season on Wednesday.
ImpactBouwmeester didn't live up to expectations from a fantasy perspective for years after heading over to Calgary, but that's changed. He's been a solid fantasy option with 13 points in 25 games this season. There's also plenty of trade speculation surrounding him, but it's worth noting that he's signed through 2013-14 and has a no-trade clause.
Trade rumors surround Jay Bouwmeester | 03/13/2013 8:48 AM
NewsJay Bouwmeester is aware of the trade speculation surrounding him.
ImpactWhen the Calgary Flames got him in the summer of 2009, he was regarded as a critical piece of the team's potential Stanley Cup run. That obviously didn't work out and Bouwmeester has now played in 741 career NHL games without ever reaching the playoffs.
Jay Bouwmeester chooses not to wear visor | 03/07/2013 8:40 AM
NewsWhy doesn't Jay Bouwmeester wear a visor? Because he doesn't have to.
Impact"There's no good excuse not to wear one," Bouwmeester said. "When people say, `You're stupid not to wear one,' I'm not going to disagree, but there a lot of things in life that make more sense and people still do." Without making visors mandatory, there might always be some players that choose not to wear them. The debate over visors has heated up since Rangers defenseman Marc Staal was struck in the eye by a puck on Tuesday.
Flames have just one goal in two games | 02/22/2013 9:57 AM
NewsThe Calgary Flames have managed just one goal in their last two games.
ImpactFor the most part, the one area the Flames have done decently in is their ability to find the back of the net. If they start to struggle in that regard too over an extended duration, then the talk might move from a playoff spot entirely to their chance at the first pick overall in 2012. "It's hard to put a finger on," Jay Bouwmeester said about their recent offensive difficulties. "We need to generate more and put everything at the net. Nowadays, so much happens just off of that." Bouwmeester added that the good news is that they'll play again on Saturday, so they won't have much time to dwell on their struggles before they get a chance to reverse them.
Jay Bouwmeester outstanding on Saturday | 01/28/2013 7:46 AM
NewsJay Bouwmeester finally showed Calgary fans why the Flames spent big money on him in 2009 Saturday.
ImpactOk, it may be a few years late, but the blueliner was outstanding in the win over the Oilers. "Jay Bouwmeester was flying tonight," gushed head coach Bob Hartley. "I think we saw the real Jay Bouwmeester, a guy who took charge, wanted the puck . . . He was a quarterback back there. That's the kind of hockey I think Jay Bouwmeester can bring to us,. He has the green light. He has the speed to create offense. If he doesn't, he has the speed to come back. We're telling him we want him to create a good second wave for us, to make sure he's always in the play, always active. That's tough to defend." If this is a turnaround for Bouwmeester, try to grab him if he is available on the waiver wire as he has had some big offensive seasons in his past.
