Cammalleri gives Flames his no-trade list | 03/04/2014 9:21 AM
NewsMichael Cammalleri has exercised his contractual right by providing the Calgary Flames with a list of seven teams he will refuse a trade to.
ImpactThe Calgary Flames offered Cammalleri a new contract last week, but the safe bet is that he's trading before the trade deadline. He's endured a bit of an off season with 14 goals and 22 points in 44 games, but he would still provide some valuable secondary scoring to a playoff-bound team.
Burke makes Michael Cammalleri contract offer | 02/25/2014 6:33 PM
NewsCalgary Flames president Brian Burke confirmed that Michael Cammalleri has been offered a contract extension.
Impact"We have not gotten a deal done," Burke said. "We will continue to talk and a trade is a possibility, no question about that, but re-signing him is a possibility, too. I wound not predict how that will come out. We'll see." In other words, nothing has been ruled out. The fact that they would entertain the possibility of re-signing 31-year-old Cammalleri rather than trade him suggests that Burke isn't interested in a lengthy rebuild.
Flames, Cammalleri continue contract talks | 02/25/2014 3:53 PM
NewsMichael Cammalleri has talked about the possibility of a contract extension with the Calgary Flames.
Nick Kypreos on Twitter
ImpactThe Flames have expressed an interest in re-signing Cammalleri for a while now, but they're still more likely to trade him if there's much of a market for him. Cammalleri has 13 goals, 21 points, and a minus-22 rating in 41 games this season.
Michael Cammalleri has limited no-trade | 02/24/2014 5:07 AM
NewsMichael Cammalleri has a limited no-trade contract in which he can give the Flames a list of seven teams that he cannot be traded to.
ImpactIt looks like the Flames will deal the UFA to be if Cammalleri and Calgary cannot agree to a long-term deal before the March 5 trade deadline. Cammalleri should be highly sought after as he is a goal scorer and that is a tough commodity to find in the NHL. Cammalleri has 13 goals and 21 points in 41 games but his minus-22 rating squashes all his fantasy value. Of course, a trade to a top team should rectify that problem.
Report: Devils interested in Cammalleri | 02/04/2014 7:49 AM
NewsThe New Jersey Devils reportedly have some interest in acquiring Michael Cammalleri.
The Bergen Record
ImpactNew Jersey badly needs a top-six forward and while Cammalleri wouldn't solve the Devils offensive woes, he would provide them with a decent boost. It's worth adding that New Jersey's quest to add talent has been complicated by the fact that they don't have a first round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. With that in mind a guy like Cammalleri might be the best they can get unless they want to lose their 2015 first rounder as well.

Michael Cammalleri to return on Thursday | 01/30/2014 7:29 AM
NewsMichael Cammalleri will return to the Calgary lineup on Thursday after missing 18 days with a concussion.
ImpactCammalleri has been practicing with Sean Monahan and T.J. Galiardi on the top line in practice and coach Bob Hartley says Cammalleri is ready to go. "It's always the part that is unknown, a new guy coming in," Hartley said. "What's going to be the impact? How's he going to be? The one thing about Cammy is he works unbelievably hard. He's free, he's good, he skated well, he took care of himself in the gym, so there's no doubt in my mind that Cammy will give us a big game. He's our assistant captain, he's a great leader, and he's a great goal-scorer for us." "I think that it's a very simple decision." Cammalleri is likely to be dealt at or before the deadline so it could be one of the final times to see him in a Calgary uniform. Put him back in your lineup if you normally would.

ImpactHe didn't travel with the team to Carolina for Monday night's contest. Cammalleri was injured in Saturday's game against Pittsburgh. He is the top goal scorer (13) and second-leading point getter (21) on the offensively challenged Flames this season, so his absence will be a significant loss.

Cammalleri nets 10th goal in Flames win | 12/01/2013 12:58 AM
NewsMichael Cammalleri netted a goal for Calgary as it took down Los Angeles 2-1 on Saturday night.
ImpactHis 10th goal of the season ended a four-game pointless streak. Cammalleri, now a minus-10, isn't likely to be an asset in the plus/minus department, but he does have a decent shot of getting close to 30 goals this season, even on a team devoid of top playmakers. Blair Jones scored the other goal. Paul Byron, TJ Brodie, Mikael Backlund and Lee Stempniak notched the assists. Ladislav Smid had 15 penalty minutes.

Cammalleri takes a lesson from golfers | 11/12/2013 9:20 AM
NewsMichael Cammalleri drew on some golfer wisdom when talking about how best to handle the Calgary Flames' recent power-play struggles.
ImpactThe Flames have come up empty in their last 30 power-play opportunities. "I learned by listening to the golfers," Cammalleri said. "They say the best putters in the world never worry about whether the ball goes in the hole or not. They just worry about making a good stroke. That's all they can control. If the ball goes in the hole, great. If it doesn't, it doesn't." In other words, as long as Cammalleri's doing what he's supposed to be doing, he shouldn't let the Flames' cold streak get to him. You often hear about players compounding struggles by trying to do too much. At the same time, Calgary is now in the bottom third of the league with the man advantage.

NewsMike Cammalleri scored twice and added an assist to lead the Flames to a 5-2 win over the Capitals on Saturday night.
ImpactThe 5-foot-9 forward filled the statsheet with two penalty minutes and four shots on goal in addition to the three points. Cammalleri has three goals and five points in four games this year, and he should remain a solid scoring source in fantasy leagues. Kris Russell notched a goal and an assist, while Curtis Glencross and Jiri Hudler were the other players to find the back of the net. Amazingly, Russell and Wideman (two assists) finished a plus-five in the win.

ImpactCoach Bob Hartley stated that he was more optimistic a week ago and is unsure if Cammalleri will be able to play this week. It was reported that Cammalleri has a serious hand injury and is having trouble holding his stick. Cammalleri is one of the few established offensive threats with the Flames and since Calgary is in a rebuild, chances are that he is dealt elsewhere at some point of the season, especially considering he is in the final year of his contract. Look for Cammalleri to get 25 goals and 55 points if he does not miss a lot of time this season.
Flames to trade Michael Cammalleri: Columnist | 09/28/2013 9:59 AM
NewsThe Calgary Flames "undoubtedly" will trade forward Michael Cammalleri before the NHL's trade deadline, according to Calgary Sun columnist Eric Francis.
Impact"Given his age (31), his salary-cap hit (US$6 million), his contract status (final year) and the long-term rebuild under way in Calgary, Cammalleri will undoubtedly be traded by the swap deadline," Francis wrote. "Such a reality makes it all the more important for the former 30-goal scorer to get off to a start good enough to attract a healthy return on the open market so the Flames can further expedite the re-do. That's what is troublesome about a hand injury suffered in Cammalleri's only pre-season appearance that has shelved him for the remainder of the silly season and puts his status up in the air for opening night."

NewsMike Cammalleri potted a goal for Calgary at home in its split-squad game against the Oilers.
ImpactDespite two goals in the third, the Flames were unable to pull out with the win, losing 3-2. Emile Poirier scored the other goal.

NewsMichael Cammalleri is "open" to discussing a contract extension with the Calgary Flames.
Impact"Who knows? We'll see," he said. "We'll see what they want to do. Truthfully, I got a lot of respect for (GM) Jay (Feaster) and (assistant GM) John (Weisbrod), I've had an open dialogue with them. Nothing to report, but we'll see what they want to do. I like it there, it's a good place. I'm open (to an extension)." He is set to earn $7 million this season in the final year of his current contract. Cammalleri's deal comes with a $6 million cap hit. Calgary is in the process of rebuilding their team, so there's a chance that Cammalleri could be traded at some point.
GM Feaster wants to trade Cammalleri | 06/28/2013 12:48 PM
NewsCalgary Flames GM Jay Feaster is very interested in trading Michael Cammalleri.
Pro Hockey Talk
Impact"My number is in the directory," Feaster said. "Give me a call." Cammalleri scored 13 goals and 32 points in 44 games, but he comes with a $6 million cap hit for the 2013-14 campaign. If the Flames are willing to retain part of his salary/cap hit or take a bad contract then maybe they can work something out, but beyond that it would be very surprising to any team expressing interest in that contract.

"You're not going to go out there and shoot on your own goalie," Michael Cammalleri said. "You're going to go out there and play as hard as you can, and you're going to try and win the game. That's our job."
Flames move on without Jarome Iginla | 03/28/2013 8:17 AM
NewsThe Calgary Flames will have to adjust to life after the Jarome Iginla trade.
Impact"He's been such a presence on this team, for this city, this organization, for so long," Michael Cammalleri said. "He's such a dominant player. A guy who is in the lineup all the time, not missing any games. It will be different, for sure, without him." With Iginla gone, the Flames will be relying more on Cammalleri.
