NewsCarlo Colaiacovo played his first game for the Red Wings since April 14th as he suited up for Game Six of their opening round playoff series against the Ducks Friday.
ImpactThe veteran blueliner only played in six regular season contests due to a shoulder ailment, but his puck-moving skills were a welcome addition for the Wings in his first game back "I thought Colaiacovo had a couple of shifts, like everyone else, he wishes he didn't have, but I thought he played well,'' coach Mike Babcock said. There's little doubt Colaiacovo will be in the lineup in place of Brian Lashoff for Game Seven of the series Sunday night.

ImpactColaiacovo returned from a shoulder injury last week, but has been a healthy scratch since. He hasn't played in a little more than two months, so this will give him a chance to get back into game shape before the playoffs.

ImpactDetroit head coach Mike Babcock wants to see Colaiacovo in practice for a period of time before getting him back in the lineup. "Now that you've been cleared, you have to practice like you are ready to go," Babcock said. "Obviously it's great to have options and good to have depth but I'm going with the crew I have. You have to be part of practice first and get yourself in shape and we'll go from there."

ImpactThis isn't great news for anyone hoping the blueliner would be back on the ice soon. Colaiacovo injured the shoulder in the second game of the season and hasn't seen his name written back into the lineup since. Although his return appeared imminent a recently as a week ago, this must be considered a setback, bumping the time frame for the injury back to an indefinite one.

ImpactAccording to Bob Duff, no surgery is required. The Red Wings signed Colaiacovo before the lockout, as they were looking for some insurance on the blueline. ImpactColaiacovo signed a two-year/$5 million contract with Detroit just before the start of the work stoppage. That being said, Colaiacovo might miss the start of training camp because he has a sore shoulder from the Spengler Cup. As an interesting side note, it was Red Wings teammate Damien Brunner that pushed Colaiacovo from behind, although it sounds like there's no hard feelings between the two. "Obviously, not intentional," Colaiacovo said. "It was a tough break there at the end, little stupid play, but it is what it is, and I feel really good right now. I'm hoping to be ready for the start of the season."
