Carlo Colaiacovo played his first game for the Red Wings since April 14th as he suited up for Game Six of their opening round playoff series against the Ducks Friday.
The veteran blueliner only played in six regular season contests due to a shoulder ailment, but his puck-moving skills were a welcome addition for the Wings in his first game back "I thought Colaiacovo had a couple of shifts, like everyone else, he wishes he didn't have, but I thought he played well,'' coach Mike Babcock said. There's little doubt Colaiacovo will be in the lineup in place of Brian Lashoff for Game Seven of the series Sunday night.

He will be paired with Jakub Kindl and Brian Lashoff will draw out of the lineup. Colaiacovo was limited to six games during the regular season because of injury and he hasn't played in any of the Wings' previous five playoff contests versus the Ducks. The Wings will be looking to force Game 7 on home ice.

You have to be part of practice first and get yourself in shape and we'll go from there."

It's been a frustrating battle, but I'm at the point now where I'm feeling better than ever and I'm real close now. I'm just taking it day by day." He has played in just two games this season and hasn't suited up since Jan. 21.

This isn't great news for anyone hoping the blueliner would be back on the ice soon. Colaiacovo injured the shoulder in the second game of the season and hasn't seen his name written back into the lineup since. Although his return appeared imminent a recently as a week ago, this must be considered a setback, bumping the time frame for the injury back to an indefinite one.

"I'm at a point right now where I'm not having any setbacks," Colaiacovo said Monday. "But I need more of the conditioning on the ice, with the battle and the strength stuff, game situations. We just decided that a couple of more days would benefit me." Consider him probable for Tuesday's contest.

According to Bob Duff, no surgery is required. The Red Wings signed Colaiacovo before the lockout, as they were looking for some insurance on the blueline. He was earning solid ice time in his first two contests before the injury. Fantasy owners should send him to the waiver wires and monitor his progress when he returns.

It didn't take long for Carlo Colaiacovo to return to the place he spent four years at.
The defenseman just signed a two-year deal with the Red Wings in the offseason, and played the Blues on Day 1. "They couldn't wait a game or two to throw me back in there," Colaiacovo joked before the contest about facing his old team. "They're throwing me to the wolves right off the bat." Colaiacovo saw 18:32 of ice time.

With the lockout over, Carlo Colaiacovo is getting used to playing with the Detroit Red Wings.
Colaiacovo signed a two-year/$5 million contract with Detroit just before the start of the work stoppage. That being said, Colaiacovo might miss the start of training camp because he has a sore shoulder from the Spengler Cup. As an interesting side note, it was Red Wings teammate Damien Brunner that pushed Colaiacovo from behind, although it sounds like there's no hard feelings between the two. "Obviously, not intentional," Colaiacovo said. "It was a tough break there at the end, little stupid play, but it is what it is, and I feel really good right now. I'm hoping to be ready for the start of the season."

Ian White thinks Carlo Colaiacovo will fit in well with the Detroit Red Wings.
White and Colaiacovo played together in Toronto. "He'll fit in well," White said. "He's quick player, a puck mover who likes to jump into the play. We were actually paired for some time so I've got a little bit of chemistry with him." Colaiacovo's status going into training camp is unclear after he sustained an injury during the Spengler Cup.

It looks like the Detroit Red Wings will start the 2012-13 season without Carlo Colaiacovo.
Colaiacovo's Spengler Cup injury is expected to take about 2-3 weeks to heal, which will eat up at least training camp. His struggles with a staggering rotation of ailments might be the story of his career; he's only played 70+ games once.
