|Assets:||Owns superior puck-handling and clearing skills. Is extremely active in and out of the crease area. Has the confidence of a perennial all-star puck-stopper.|

Rick DiPietro gives up five, lasts one period | 03/01/2013 10:30 PM
NewsRick DiPietro gave up five goals and lasted only one period for Bridgeport in his first game since being demoted.
ImpactObviously no fantasy implications here, but with all the news he's made lately -- not to mention that pricey contract -- it was worth mentioning. He made only seven saves. DiPietro's due to get a good number of starts from here on out in the AHL, but not if he plays like this. Suffice to say, the climb is very steep for him to get back to the NHL.
DiPietro clarifies controversial comment | 02/28/2013 7:04 PM
NewsRick DiPietro clarified some controversial comments that surfaced Thursday when he jokingly talked about suicide.
New York Daily News
ImpactNews 12 Long Island sports anchor Kevin Maher tweeted excerpts from the interview that talked about DiPietro's "injuries, losing and fan hatred over the past 3 years made him think about killing himself at one point." DiPietro told several news outlets that the suicide comment was "100 percent facetious" and he didn't mean for that statement to be taken seriously. He was just trying to talk about the support that his wife has given him during some hard times in his career. The fiasco resulted in the Islanders releasing this statement from GM Garth Snow: "We are aware of Rick's comments today and the severity of them. We will handle them internally as we do all player matters. This is an opportunity for Rick to play lots of games in Bridgeport."
DiPietro stays upbeat despite AHL demotion | 02/28/2013 11:34 AM
NewsRick DiPietro is maintaining a good attitude despite being demoted to the AHL last week.
New York Newsday
Impact"The last couple of years, with all the injuries, if it's taught me anything, it's that I need to enjoy what I do," DiPietro said Wednesday after practicing with his Bridgeport teammates. "It's a good opportunity to play a lot of games and get sharp. At the end of the day, you want to compete. You want to win. That's what I want to do." He joined the team Tuesday and should get his first start this weekend with the Sound Tigers playing games Friday, Saturday and Sunday. DiPietro posted a 0-3-0 record with an .855 save percentage and a 4.09 GAA with the Islanders prior to being placed on waivers and ending up in the minors.
Rick DiPietro clears waivers, sent to AHL | 02/23/2013 3:19 PM
NewsRick DiPietro has successfully cleared waivers.

ImpactNo surprise there. Who would want DiPietro's $4.5 million annual cap hit through 2020-21? DiPietro will get a chance to shake off some of the rust that he's accumulated after years of injuries in the minors. He might still rebuild his career, but we can't recommend owning him in anything but the very deepest of keeper leagues at this time.
Islanders put G Rick DiPietro on waivers | 02/22/2013 1:07 PM
NewsNew York Islanders waive G Rick DiPietro.
ImpactThis could be end of the DiPietro's injury-filled Isles career that appeared doomed from the moment he signed that 15-year contract. The Islanders plan to recall Kevin Poulin from Bridgeport once DiPietro clears waivers. DiPietro will then be assigned to the club's AHL affiliate and the Islanders will have roughly $9 million in cap space committed to a pair of goaltenders not playing in the NHL.
Report: Isles set to waive DiPietro on Friday | 02/22/2013 12:29 PM
NewsThe Islanders plan to waive G Rick DiPietro at noon ET on Friday, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.

ImpactDiPietro has been awful in all of his starts and Staple reports the Isles plan to assign him to AHL Bridgeport if he clears waivers, which he will given the size of his contract. If this the end of DiPietro's NHL career, it surely is a sad way to go for the injury-riddled netminder who could never shake the massive 15-yearcontract he signed years ago. Staple reports the Isles will recall Kevin Poulin to replace DiPietro on the roster.
Rick DiPietro allows 3 in defeat to Ottawa | 02/19/2013 11:18 PM
NewsRick DiPietro made 23 saves on 26 shots in a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Ottawa Senators Tuesday night.
ImpactIt was a rare start for DiPietro, who hasn't seen much action behind Evgeni Nabokov this campaign. He has lost all three of his appearances this year and hasn't looked particularly good in any of them.

NewsRick DiPietro is likely to start Tuesday night at Ottawa.
New York Newsday
ImpactEvgeni Nabokov was kept in goal for the entirety of Monday afternoon's 7-0 loss to Philadelphia. He could probably stand to get the night off, but said he would be ready if he got the nod.
Rick DiPietro gets saddled with loss Monday | 02/12/2013 12:28 AM
NewsRick DiPietro got saddled with loss Monday night against the Carolina Hurricanes.
ImpactThe injury prone goaltender allowed five goals on 30 shots in the contest in just his second start of the season. DiPietro might stay healthy this season, but even if he does, his fantasy value will be limited and should be avoided. Look for Evgeni Nabokov to be between the pipes in the Islanders next game.
Rick DiPietro is expected to start Monday | 02/11/2013 12:31 PM
NewsRick DiPietro will be the New York Islanders' starting goaltender on Monday.
Islanders.nhl.com on Twitter
ImpactIt will be just DiPietro's second start of the season. Evgeni Nabokov and the Islanders have been struggling lately, so this could be a golden opportunity for DiPietro to get back into the battle for the starting job. It wouldn't be surprising to see DiPietro start again on Thursday if he has a strong performance tonight.
Rick DiPietro might get the nod Monday | 02/11/2013 11:39 AM
NewsRick DiPietro might get his second start of the season on Monday.
New York Newsday
ImpactNothing has been confirmed yet, but Evgeni Nabokov has lost four straight games and has allowed three goals in each of his last three contests. DiPietro hasn't played since Jan. 25.
Rick DiPietro allows four goals Friday | 01/25/2013 10:42 PM
NewsRick DiPietro kicked out 23 of 27 shots in a 4-2 loss to the Boston Bruins on Friday.
ImpactDiPietro might stay healthy this season, but even if he does, his fantasy value will be limited. At this point, he should be regarded as a backup goaltender on a mediocre team and be valued accordingly.
Rick DiPietro will make season debut Friday | 01/25/2013 1:20 PM
NewsRick DiPietro will play between the pipes on Friday.
Arthur Stape on Twitter
ImpactDiPietro's health has been an ongoing concern for years, but at this point it might be moot from a fantasy perspective in standard leagues. Evgeni Nabokov started in the Islanders' first three games and should get the bulk of the team's playing time regardless of DiPietro's status.
Rick DiPietro should start soon for Islanders | 01/24/2013 12:08 PM
NewsRick DiPietro will probably get his first start of the season soon.
New York Newsday
ImpactEvgeni Nabokov is slated to make his third straight on Thursday, but the Islanders play again on Friday versus Boston before facing the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. Look for DiPietro to make his season debut in one of those games.
DiPietro ready to bounce back after injuries | 01/09/2013 12:52 AM
NewsRick DiPietro is optimistic about his chances to make an impact in net for the Islanders after years of injury problems.
Impact"I feel great. I've had such extensive surgeries, they say it takes a couple of years after that serious of surgery to actually feel back to yourself. I think a lot of the stuff was me rushing back too soon, or just having other stuff go wrong because you compensate for surgery that really hadn't quite yet come back all the way," he said. "I've had some time off to get ready and get prepared, and I'm looking forward to it." DiPietro played just one game in 2012 with SC Riessersee in Germany. Evgeni Nabokov enters camp as the Islanders' incumbent starter, but its worth tracking DiPietro's progress in the coming weeks.
