Chris Kelly might be doubtful for Monday | 01/27/2014 9:36 AM
NewsIt's probably doubtful that Chris Kelly will return from his broken leg on Monday night, but he is close to rejoining the lineup.
Impact"I'm not sure on his status," coach Claude Julien said Sunday. "Again, he's been out for six weeks or whatever (actually, seven). It's not as easy as a guy who's been out for a week or two. So it's almost like training camp for him. We're being careful for his sake and for our sake. I think he's excited to come back. The other day (in Philadelphia) we didn't feel he was ready. We'll see how he is (yesterday and today). He may (be ready to play), or he may not. But I think he's getting pretty close."

Chris Kelly (ankle) is a bit behind schedule | 01/23/2014 9:55 AM
NewsChris Kelly is a little behind schedule in his recovery from an ankle injury.
ImpactHe has been skating on his own for more than a week and he's currently on Week 7 of what was projected to be a four-to-six week rehab. Kelly's return would help Boston's struggling penalty kill, but it could also complicate Ryan Spooner's roster spot when he's able to play again.

NewsChris Kelly (ankle) hopes to resume skating soon.
Impact"I'm feeling much better," Kelly said. "I'm able to move around well. ... Obviously, it's one of those injuries you've got to be a little careful with. You don't want to do too much or you could set it back." He's been out of action since Dec. 7 because of a broken ankle.

Chris Kelly has gotten off to a slow start | 11/17/2013 9:09 AM
NewsChris Kelly has no points and a minus-three rating in his last four games.
CSN New England
ImpactAlthough stretches like that aren't terribly uncommon for Kelly, he unfortunately hasn't enjoyed a hot streak yet this season. The result is that he has just five points in 19 games. That puts him on pace to record his lowest point total ever, not counting his rookie campaign when he only played in four games or the shortened 2013 season. He'll probably get at least one decent hot streak this season and finish 2013-14 with around 30 points.

NewsChris Kelly was on the receiving end of an elbow to the face five minutes into Thursday's game against Florida.

Chris Kelly off to a much better start | 10/14/2013 9:37 AM
NewsChris Kelly has two goals in four games this season.
ImpactHe's already off to much better start than last year when he scored just three times in 34 games and did not get his second until his 22nd contest. "Sometimes the goals come and sometimes they don't," he said. "But I'm moving my feet and I'm trying to create some chances." Despite his improvement, he shouldn't be on your roster in most standard leagues just yet.
Coach Julien impressed with Chris Kelly | 10/05/2013 7:30 AM
NewsCoach Claude Julien has been impressed with the play of Chris Kelly since last season's Stanley Cup Final.
ImpactKelly had a tough time of things last season as he did not play during the lockout and that affected his season as he scored only three times in the regular season. But Kelly's game really picked up in the Final and it continued through training camp and into the first game of the regular season. "I think [Kelly] had a really good camp. It showed in camp, I think it showed in the Finals last year that he was a good player for us. Coming off that injury, I think he just really had a tough time finding his game and certainly wasn't skating the way we knew he could," Julien said. "So it's good to see him play that well because it's going to certainly help that third line be the kind of line we expect it to be." Look for Kelly to score 12-15 goals this season and give your fantasy team a good plus/minus.
Chris Kelly cashes in on his penalty shot | 10/04/2013 10:02 AM
NewsChris Kelly scored Boston's first goal of the season on a shorthanded penalty shot.
Impact"I had an idea of what I was going to do before [the shot]," Kelly said. "I try that move in practice, but Tuukka [Rask] doesn't move, so it ends up just going in his pad, so it's kind of deflating. I was happy [Anders Lindback] bit; you know he's a big guy, [when you] shoot high he takes away the upper net, so I just tried to freeze him." Kelly also won 12 of 17 faceoffs in the contest.
Chris Kelly projected to start on third line | 09/29/2013 9:23 AM
NewsChris Kelly is projected to start the season on the third line with Reilly Smith and Carl Soderberg.
ImpactThe trio developed some chemistry over the preseason. Kelly is looking to bounce back after recording just nine points in 34 games last season. He might do just that, but either way he's unlikely to have much fantasy value in standard leagues.

Chris Kelly looking to rebound in 2013-14 | 09/15/2013 8:36 AM
NewsChris Kelly is hoping his strong play in the Stanley Cup Final will carry into the 2013-14 campaign.
CSN New England
ImpactKelly had two goals and three points in the last five games of the playoffs, compared to a disappointing nine points in 34 regular season contests in 2013. "Especially in the Cup Final I felt like my legs were back to where I wanted them to be, and I had a good offseason with no issues at all," Kelly said. "I'm excited to get back skating and playing hard, and when you have new linemates it's a new challenge. I think that's something we're all looking forward to." Kelly is projected to play on the third line. He's likely to play alongside Jordan Caron and either Reilly Smith or Matt Fraser.
Chris Kelly scores 2nd goal of SCF | 06/25/2013 7:40 AM
NewsChris Kelly produced his second goal of the playoffs in Game 6 against Chicago.
ImpactHis marker, which was set up by Tyler Seguin and Daniel Paille, gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead after the first period. However, Boston wasn't able to hold off a stunning late rally from the Blackhawks and they ended up losing their chance at playing in Game 7 for a chance to hoist the Stanley Cup. Kelly was a bright spot for the Bruins in the Stanley Cup Finals, where he generated all three of his playoff points.
Kelly says Bruins need better start in Game 5 | 06/21/2013 8:05 AM
NewsChris Kelly believes the Boston Bruins need to get off to a better start in Saturday's Game 5.
ImpactEven though they forced overtime, the Bruins were playing catchup all of Game 4. It was a rare sight considering Boston had been the better team for most of the series and something Kelly plans on fixing before Saturday night. "Being prepared right from the start," the center said. "And playing a consistent game. I don't think our effort was there for the entire 60-plus minutes. There were some good times and some bad times. We just have to be a more consistent hockey team."
Kelly extends Cup final point streak to two | 06/18/2013 7:05 AM
NewsChris Kelly picked up an assist in Game 3 Monday night.
ImpactHe got his first point of the postseason in Game 2 versus Chicago when he scored a goal. Kelly had been woeful offensively all season, but he's starting to produce in the Stanley Cup Finals. Goals have been hard to come by in the past two games, so getting a point in consecutive contests is something worth mentioning right now. Kelly also won eight of his 11 faceoffs in the match.
Chris Kelly ends a very long slump | 06/17/2013 8:34 AM
NewsChris Kelly went nearly two full months between points.
CSN New England
ImpactKelly didn't have a point in 17 playoff games before he finally netted a goal in Boston's 2-1 overtime victory on Saturday. "I think he's been snake bitten for quite a while," said Bruins coach Claude Julien. "When you don't score, eventually you get scored on, and the minuses keep creeping up. That was certainly something that bothered him. [But] I thought he played well tonight. He's played well in some games. He hasn't been able to produce. So tonight is a good night for him, a good time to obviously have a great game." Kelly had just nine points in 34 games in the regular season, but he is capable of doing more offensively than those numbers imply. We'll see if he can build off of his slump busting game.
Seguin: Kelly helped rally Bruins in Game 2 | 06/16/2013 6:01 PM
NewsTyler Seguin credited Chris Kelly with helping to rally the Boston Bruins after their poor first period in Game 2.
ImpactKelly was vocal and he led by example with his second period goal. "(Kelly) is a very passionate person and player, and he's even better when he's using it in the right way," Seguin said. "Sometimes it might be almost too much yelling on the bench, but when he's in control like he has been as of late, he's a really good player and a player to watch out for, and you see him get rewarded (Saturday)."
Chris Kelly looking to rebound in Game 2 Sat. | 06/14/2013 9:01 AM
NewsChris Kelly is hoping to rebound in Game 2 on Saturday after a sub-par effort Wednesday night.
ImpactKelly was just 7-of-22 on faceoffs and ended the game with a minus-3 rating. After being part one an extremely successful bottom six earlier in the postseason, Kelly's been shifted around after the injury to Gregory Campbell. "When you play with the same guys night in and night out, you get to know where they're going to be and what they're tendencies are," said Kelly. "But we're in a circumstance where we're playing with different guys and we have been throughout the course of the year, so it's not a huge adjustment."
Chris Kelly moves down to the fourth line | 06/07/2013 12:25 PM
NewsChris Kelly is projected to play between Shawn Thornton and Daniel Paille.
Pro Hockey Talk
ImpactThat technically represents a demotion for Kelly, but this will allow Bruins coach Claude Julien to continue to use all four of his lines with confidence. Boston's fourth line had been a genuine threat to score in the playoffs, but its original center, Gregory Campbell, is injured so Julien was forced to shake things up. Daugavins will be the player inserted into the lineup due to Campbell's injury, even though he's not taking Campbell's fourth line spot.
Chris Kelly helps Bruins contain Crosby | 06/05/2013 5:28 PM
NewsChris Kelly and Patrice Bergeron have seen most of their ice time opposite Sidney Crosby two games into Boston's Round 3 series versus Pittsburgh.
CSN New England
ImpactThe Bruins centers have done a very good job of keeping Crosby and his Penguins teammates contained so far. "He's a great player," Kelly said of Crosby. "They have a lot of great players when they're on the ice, and make sure that you're managing the puck so you're in a good defensive position. You also want to go out and contribute offensively, but I think everybody has done a good job of knowing when certain players are on the ice." Crosby has lost 21 of the 35 draws he's taken in the series and he owns a minus-3 rating, with no points. Kelly has been great on faceoffs against Pittsburgh, but he still doesn't have a point of his own after 14 postseason matches.
Chris Kelly, Peverley continue to struggle | 05/28/2013 6:54 AM
NewsChris Kelly still doesn't have a point in the playoffs.
ImpactHe also has a minus-6 rating and just 12 shots in 12 postseason appearances. Regular linemate Rich Peverley has only one goal in 11 playoff games. The third line hasn't been able to generate much of anything offensively and most of Tyler Seguin's points have come on the power play. "We just need Kells and Pevs to get that confidence to create even more," said coach Claude Julien. "They started creating some stuff, but at the end of the day they weren't necessarily on the scoresheet."
Chris Kelly, Daniel Paille have solid nights | 04/18/2013 12:59 AM
NewsChris Kelly and Daniel Paille had a goal and an assist apiece but their Boston Bruins lost to the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 via a shootout.
ImpactNeither player has the kind of numbers that indicate that they'll be fantasy relevant on most nights, but Kelly at least showed why he was missed to some degree when he was on the shelf about a week or so ago.
Chris Kelly returns to Boston's lineup | 04/09/2013 7:31 AM
NewsChris Kelly got back into Boston's lineup Monday night for the first time since March 11.
ImpactHe had been sidelined with a broken left tibia. Kelly won 12 of 23 faceoffs and posted a minus-1 rating in 13:23 of ice time against Carolina in his return. He wasn't satisfied with his work on the draw, but his timing should come back once he gets back into a rhythm. Kelly will also be looking to add some offense after recording just six points in 24 outings this season.

Impact"Same thing, he's doing well," said Bruins coach Claude Julien. "We'll see how things go with the medical staff, because I still need the clearance from them, but he practiced a little harder [Sunday] and so he's inching closer and closer every day." Kelly hasn't played since March 11.

Chris Kelly won't play Tuesday vs. Pens | 03/12/2013 7:29 PM
NewsChris Kelly won't play Tuesday night because of a knee injury.
CSN New England
ImpactThe Bruins will wait for the swelling to go down before announcing timetable for his return. "[There's] no news. He's here with us," said coach Claude Julien. "There's some swelling obviously so it's hard to say where he's at right now. We'll probably be able to give an update in the next day or so once he gets home and the swelling goes down." Rich Peverley will shift to center on the third line in his place between Jay Pandolfo and Jordan Caron.
Kelly injures knee during collision with Neil | 03/12/2013 8:37 AM
NewsChris Kelly appeared to injure his left knee during a collision with Ottawa Senators forward Chris Neil.
ImpactNeil appeared to hit Kelly knee on knee during a collision in the neutral zone. Kelly needed to be helped off the ice and couldn't put weight on the leg. He will travel with the Bruins to Pittsburgh and was scheduled to be re-evaluated upon arriving. Neil, who has quite the reputation, swore the hit was accidental, which both Kelly's teammates and Bruins coach Claude Julien agreed with. We'll update you as soon as we know more, but this doesn't sound good.
Chris Kelly struggles on offense and defense | 03/06/2013 10:02 AM
NewsChris Kelly isn't having a good year offensively or defensively for the Bruins this season.
ImpactHe has one goal and a minus-7 rating after 20 games. "It's a little frustrating. You can live with not scoring, or even getting scored on and the team's winning. But it's frustrating when it goes the other way, said Kelly after two losses for Boston in which he ended up with a combined minus-5 rating. "But like anything in life, you work through it, you continue to work hard and good things will happen."
Chris Kelly only regular B's forward w/o goal | 02/15/2013 10:00 AM
NewsChris Kelly is the only regular Bruins forward without a goal this season.
ImpactHe notched his first 20-goal season last year, then signed a four-year $12 million contract in the offseason. "Of course I want to score. I'd be lying if I said, `Oh, I don't want to score.' Everybody wants to score," said Kelly, who has three assists. "But it makes things easier when the team is doing well, so if the team continues to do well and I don't score, it is what it is. I'd like to help out." Kelly remains a great penalty killer and faceoff man, winning 59.4 percent of his draws.
Chris Kelly really enjoyed Switzerland | 01/10/2013 10:00 AM
NewsChris Kelly returned to Boston on Wednesday to skate with some of his teammates in an informal session.
ImpactHe is back from his lockout stint in Switzerland with HC Red Ice of the Swiss National League B. "I had a great experience over there," he said. "I had never played in Europe. It was a great opportunity to go over there and experience it. I'd never been to Switzerland, and where I was was a beautiful part of the country. I wish the guys there all the luck going forward, because they treated me very well." Kelly scored four goals and added five assists in eight games with his lockout club. Now he will prepare for the start of training camp.
