Manny Malhotra excels on the draw | 11/12/2013 9:33 AM
NewsManny Malhotra has won 64% of his draws in five games this season.
Raleigh News & Observer
ImpactMalhotra isn't expected to do a lot offensively, but the faceoff circle is one of the areas that he should be a big boost to Carolina. Outside of Malhotra, no player on the Hurricanes has participated in more than 50 draws and maintained a success rate of more than 51%.

NewsManny Malhotra scored the overtime game-winner in Carolina's 2-1 OT win against Philadelphia on Tuesday.
ImpactThat's Malhotra's first goal since March 26, 2012. It's certainly an inspiring story, but Malhotra's only really worth looking at in FW leagues (a category in which he's quite dominant).
Manny Malhotra continues to dominate at FW | 11/03/2013 9:17 AM
NewsIn his first two games back in the NHL since 2012-13, Manny Malhotra has absolutely lived up to his reputation as a faceoff specialist.
Raleigh News & Observer
ImpactHe's gone 25-9 in two games, good for a ludicrous 73.5 winning percentage. That includes a 5-1 mark in shorthanded situations. He's already fifth on Carolina with 25 FW. Unfortunately, he's not really useful for anything other than that skill at this point in his career.

"I believed in myself and my family believed in me. I knew that I still had something to contribute to a team."

"Manny brings a level of veteran leadership to the Hurricanes organization and gives the team depth at the center position," GM Jim Rutherford said. Malhotra signed a professional tryout with Carolina's minor-league affiliate in Charlotte earlier this month and in eight games with the Checkers he has 17 penalty minutes and no points.

Manny Malhotra looks for NHL contract | 07/17/2013 10:34 AM
NewsManny Malhotra is looking to extend his NHL career.
ImpactMalhotra is an unrestricted free agent after spending the better part of the 2013 season on the injured reserve list. Canucks GM Mike Gillis made the decision regarding Malhotra due to the recurring effect of his eye injury, but Malhotra didn't agree with Gillis' call. "It was extremely disappointing - it was based on his perception and not my feeling," Malhotra said. "I understand where he's coming from and caring for my well being, but I definitely want to continue. I'd love to go into a situation where you know you have a job and it's not based on a tryout, but I said from the get-go that I'm going to have to prove myself again and answer a lot of questions."

ImpactMalhotra says he feels "good" and "comfortable" with his abilities and disagrees with Gillis' decision to shut him down, though he doesn't harbor negative feelings toward him. "I truly believe he cares for my well being and for my future - not only in the game of hockey but as a young man, a young father," Malhotra said. "He wants to see me have a successful life post hockey." Malhotra's contract expires at the end of the season. He said he won't be demanding a trade and would discuss his future with his family.

ImpactMalhotra is reportedly not prepared to retire at this time, but McKenize speculated that he might work as an unofficial assistant coach for the Canucks and Chicago Wolves to help out the players. He skated in nine games this season before the decision was made to remove him from the active roster.

ImpactMalhotra missed Friday's game when his wife gave birth to a son but the Canucks missed him on Sunday as the face off specialist was scratched and the Canucks won only 20 of 62 face offs. Malhotra is 24-10 on the draw, best in the NHL for players who have taken at least 20 face offs. Look for Maxim Lapierre, who had an undisciplined game Sunday to be a possible scratch if Malhotra returns.
