Alex Tanguay struggled at end of season | 04/29/2013 7:05 AM
NewsAlex Tanguay admitted that he was distracted the last month of the season after teammates Jarome Iginla and Jay Bouwmeester were dealt away.
ImpactTanguay missed the last two weeks of the season with a medial collateral ligament sprain in his knee. "I was playing pretty good the first 20 to 25 games of the year, and then when the distraction came about, I think mentally I got a little bit affected by it," Tanguay said. "And that's on me. You have to be a professional. You have to play your best every night. But I've got some good years of hockey ahead of me, and I'm hoping that I can be a key contributor in this organization." Tanguay has three years left on his contract at $3.5 million per season and could be a candidate to be bought out by the Flames. Stay tuned.

ImpactTanguay's left foot was caught as he fell and his scream while his leg was twisted could be heard all the way up to the press box. "It doesn't look good," Flames coach Bob Hartley said. "The doctors were around him when I got in (the room). I didn't see it, but Marty Gelinas saw a replay somewhere and said it's ugly."
Alex Tanguay gets use to life on new Flames | 04/10/2013 8:53 AM
NewsAlex Tanguay is getting used to life on a rebuilding squad.
Impact"Mentally, it's been unbelievably tough for a while now, but that's part of hockey," Tanguay said. "My first few years in the league, I thought this was easy having a chance to win a Stanley Cup year in and year out. And it's certainly not that way." Tanguay is signed through 2015-16, so he'll provide a veteran presence during the rebuilding process. Tanguay has previously stated that he's happy in Calgary despite their decision to trade away some of their top players, so Tanguay isn't likely to request to be traded over the summer.
Alex Tanguay isn't requesting a trade | 04/02/2013 9:05 AM
NewsEven as the Calgary Flames deal away their top players, Alex Tanguay isn't requesting a trade.
Impact"I'm happy here," Tanguay said. "I signed a five-year deal a year-and-a-half ago, and certainly with the intention of being here for that deal. I like the city. I like the team. I like the organization. I'm hoping that things are going to work out here, but the team makes decisions for what's best for them, and I'm sure they're looking for their own best interests. We'll see." Tanguay has nine goals and 25 points in 34 games this season.
Alex Tanguay enjoyed time with Jarome Iginla | 03/28/2013 8:33 AM
NewsAlex Tanguay enjoyed playing with Jarome Iginla for five of the last seven seasons.
ImpactTanguay has had two stints with the Flames. "He's been a superstar in this league," said Tanguay of Iginla. "He's going to be a Hall of Famer. It's been a privilege playing with him. He's a role model. The kids that have grown up in this city the last 15 years, for most of them Jarome Iginla is their idol. It's sad to see it come to this day, but it's the business we're in. I guess there's not much we can do." After Tanguay had a poor season in Tampa Bay, Iginla apparently pushed the Flames to bring back his old teammate. Tanguay rewarded the Flames for their trust in him by scoring 22 goals and 69 points in his first season back. The Flames went on to ink Tanguay to a five-year, $17,500,000 million extension.

Tanguay scored the game-winning goal against the New Jersey Devils to win the Stanley Cup. He hasn't played for Colorado since 2005-06, but he still cherishes Denver. He'll get a chance to play there on Thursday.

ImpactThe Flames are 2-5-2 at home following the 3-1 loss to Los Angeles on Wednesday, but are 3-2-1 on the road. They currently stand 14th in the Western Conference, ahead of only the lowly Columbus Blue Jackets. "We all feel that we should be performing a whole lot better at home," Tanguay said. "And when it doesn't go our way, maybe we squeeze (our sticks) a little bit too much. Maybe we put too much pressure on ourselves. I don't know ... But whatever has happened, we have to put it in the past."

Alex Tanguay playing a big role for Flames | 01/24/2013 2:35 AM
NewsWhile the Calgary Flames fell short in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday, Alex Tanguay owners should feel optimistic.
ImpactA lot of the numbers are promising. He had nearly as much ice time as Jarome Iginla, totaling at 23:26. Tanguay's known more for being a passer, yet he had five shots on goal which resulted in one tally. If he has C/LW eligibility, you could do worse than scooping up Iggy's running mate.

NewsThe Calgary Flames are experimenting with using Alex Tanguay up the middle.
ImpactThe was some suspicion before training camp began that Tanguay might end up as the team's top center, but nothing has been decided yet. "Trying to get used to a new pace, trying to get used to a new position, I don't think I looked too good out there - I was a little bit out of place," said Tanguay. "I feel fine physically, but I feel that I'm still taking too much time thinking about where I need to be. But I'm looking forward to the next few days of practice and hopefully I can improve."

NewsAlex Tanguay may line up as a center on opening night for Calgary on the team's top line.
ImpactNeedless to say the Flames are thin up the middle going into this season. Tanguay's playmaking style could help ease the transition if it happens, but it would take some getting used to since he has played his career as a left winger.
