Jarome Iginla pots two goals in Game 4 win | 05/23/2013 12:00 PM
NewsJarome Iginla scored twice as Pittsburgh routed Ottawa 7-3 in Game 4 Wednesday night.
ImpactHe posted four shots in the contest and finished with a plus-2 rating despite getting a playoff-low 13:56 of ice time. Iginla has 12 points in 10 postseason games for the Penguins.
Iginla appreciates role change with Penguins | 05/20/2013 1:24 PM
NewsJarome Iginla has embraced his new role with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Impact"It's not to say I didn't enjoy it back then," he said referring to his leadership role with the Calgary Flames. "I'm just enjoying what comes. Playing. When you're captain, there's more responsibility. You're thinking 'How's this guy feeling?', 'Where's the coach at?' Most of my focus is on just playing now, on myself, on being ready. And, yeah, that is a nice change." He's still thrilled to be back in the playoffs, where he has 10 points in nine games, and said he has no plans to retire in the off-season. Iginla is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this July if an extension isn't reached with the Penguins.
Pens' shuffled lines in Game 5 may continue | 05/11/2013 12:39 PM
NewsPenguins' coach Dan Bylsma's line shuffling in Game 5 was very successful and as a result the teams' forward units could remain the same as they ended up Thursday night.
ImpactThat would mean Jarome Iginla would play alongside Sidney Crosby and Pascal Dupuis, while Chris Kunitz would line up with Evgeni Malkin and James Neal. Brandon Sutter, Matt Cooke and either Brenden Morrow or Tyler Kennedy will make up the team's third line, while some combination of Jussi Jokinen, Tanner Glass, Joe Vitale and Kennedy will make up the fourth unit. Adjust your rosters accordingly.
Jarome Iginla feels comfortable at LW now | 05/09/2013 1:08 PM
NewsJarome Iginla doesn't mind playing left wing anymore.
Impact"Left feels good now," Iginla said. "When I first got here, whatever position you put me at [I] wasn't feeling comfortable. You know, had lots going through my mind and pretty anxious, I guess, when I first got here. Maybe that's why I looked so uncomfortable on the left." He feels more comfortable now in the team's system, so it doesn't matter whether he plays on the right or the left. Iginla has produced a goal and six assists in four games against the Islanders in the postseason.
Jarome Iginla gets PPG in Game 3 win | 05/06/2013 12:34 PM
NewsJarome Iginla got his first goal of the 2013 playoffs in Sunday's overtime win over the New York Islanders.
ImpactHe helped Pittsburgh fight back from a 2-0 deficit in the contest with a power-play goal. Iginla has four assists and five points in three postseason games thus far
Jarome Iginla scores again in loss to Sabres | 04/23/2013 10:38 PM
NewsJarome Iginla found the back of the net for a fourth straight game Tuesday night.
ImpactHis power-play marker tied the game at 2-2, but the Penguins ended up losing 4-2 to the Buffalo Sabres. Iginla concluded the contest with eight shots and a minus-1 rating. Chris Kunitz also scored for Pittsburgh, while Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang contributed an assist each in their returns to the lineup.
Iginla has been racking up points this month | 04/23/2013 8:53 AM
NewsJarome Iginla netted a goal for a third straight game in Monday's win against Ottawa.
ImpactTwo of his markers have come on Pittsburgh power plays and he's added an assist as well during that time. Iginla has enjoyed a productive month with four goals and four assists in nine games so far this April.
Linemates want more shots from Jarome Iginla | 04/11/2013 11:37 AM
NewsJarome Iginla's linemates, Evgeni Malkin and Chris Kunitz, want him to shoot the puck more.
ImpactThe trio played great in Pittsburgh's comeback victory over Carolina Tuesday night and Iginla set up Malkin for the game-winning goal. Iginla passed up on a very good chance to score, which probably prompted the chatter from his linemates that he should shoot more often.
Jarome Iginla nets 1st goal with Pens in loss | 04/02/2013 10:41 PM
NewsJarome Iginla produced his first goal with the Penguins in Tuesday's loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
ImpactHis first point since being acquired from Calgary was the only goal Pittsburgh could muster in a 4-1 loss. Their 15-game win streak came to end as a result. Evgeni Malkin and Chris Kunitz assisted on Iginla's power-play marker.
Jarome Iginla wings it in Penguins debut | 03/31/2013 10:14 AM
NewsJarome Iginla went scoreless with three shots, two hits and a plus-1 rating in his Pittsburgh debut Saturday.
ImpactIginla fared well in his debut but also made quite an impression on his new teammates. "I'm sitting here looking across the room and thinking, `Man, that's Jarome Iginla!'" defenseman Matt Niskanen recalled. "I mean, when you're on a team with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, you might not think that would happen. But that's Jarome Iginla."
Iginla to play with Malkin and Neal | 03/30/2013 1:07 PM
NewsJarome Iginla will at least initially line up alongside Evgeni Malkin and James Neal.

Iginla to play Saturday v Islanders | 03/30/2013 12:28 PM
NewsJarome Iginla will in fact play Saturday afternoon against the Islanders.

ImpactHe has cleared up his immigration issues and the Penguins have placed Paul Martin on injured reserve to create a roster spot for Iginla. Activate him immediately as the game starts at 1:00 pm ET!
Update: Jarome Iginla still unlikely for Sat. | 03/29/2013 8:21 PM
NewsUpdating a previous note, Jarome Iginla is considered "unlikely to play for now" for Saturday, according to Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's Rob Russi.
Rob Rossi on Twitter
ImpactThe newest Penguin was supposed to arrive Friday night but a travel issue has delayed his arrival. RDS' Renaud Lavoie says he will join the team Saturday, though it's unclear exactly when. It sounds as if Saturday's start time was the standard 7 p.m. one, Iginla would have a chance of playing, but the 1 p.m. puck drop with the Islanders complicates matters. In all likelihood, the longtime member of the Flames will make his Penguins debut Tuesday.
Immigration issues delaying Iginla's debut | 03/29/2013 3:06 PM
NewsJarome Iginla isn't likely to play on Saturday due to immigration issues.
Impact"We hope to have some information about that at some point (Friday) afternoon," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said. Pittsburgh acquired Iginla from the Calgary Flames late Wednesday night (or early Thursday morning depending on your perspective). Part of the problem is that Canadian government offices are closed both today and Monday because of Good Friday and Easter Monday.
Jarome Iginla very excited to join Penguins | 03/28/2013 3:41 PM
NewsJarome Iginla had mixed emotions when he spoke to the media Thursday following his trade to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
ImpactHe thanked the fans and the city, where he had player every game of his 15-plus year career. In nearly 16 years with the Flames, Iginla became the franchise's all-time leader in goals (525), points (1,095) and total games (1,219). However, going to the Penguins was clearly an opportunity that he couldn't pass up. "I'd love to get my first crack at one Cup," said Iginla. "Pittsburgh has the two best players in the world. It's really hard as a player to pass up the opportunity to play on a team with Sid and Malkin."
Iginla may have to wait to play with Crosby | 03/28/2013 2:13 PM
NewsPittsburgh GM Ray Shero doesn't see an immediate reunion of Jarome Iginla and Sidney Crosby on the same line taking place.
ImpactThe two of them played together for Canada at the 2010 Olympics, where Iginla set up Crosby for the gold-medal winning goal against the United States in overtime. Shero would prefer to keep what he called "the best line" in hockey intact, which features Crosby between Chris Kunitz and Pascal Dupuis. However, coach Dan Bylsma is known for changing up his combinations on the fly. We would expect to see Iginla get some time alongside Evgeni Malkin, once he returns to action, and James Neal. Either way, Iginla will be playing with some very talented players once he gets his immigration issue settled in the next few days.
Pens add grit, leadership prior to deadline | 03/28/2013 10:54 AM
NewsPittsburgh GM Ray Shero has been busy ahead of next week's trade deadline.
ImpactHis veteran haul includes two former captains in Jarome Iginla and Brenden Morrow as well as rugged defenseman Doug Murray. Shero gave up picks and prospects in order to add leadership and grit for the Penguins' playoff push. All three of the players Pittsburgh acquired are on expiring contracts and right now Shero hasn't discussed any contract extensions with them.
Penguins acquire Jarome Iginla instead | 03/28/2013 2:46 AM
NewsAs it turns out, the Pittsburgh Penguins acquired Jarome Iginla instead of the Boston Bruins on Wednesday.
ImpactContrary to an early report, various outlets including USA Today's Kevin Allen report that Pittsburgh added the veteran. The takeaway was similar to the Bruins deal: two prospects (Kenneth Agostino and Ben Hanowski) and a first-rounder. Iginla should slot in somewhere in the top-six, a potentially nice bump for him.
Boston Bruins acquire Jarome Iginla | 03/28/2013 12:16 AM
NewsThe rumors are true: TSN's Aaron Ward reports that Jarome Iginla has been traded to the Boston Bruins.
Aaron Ward on Twitter
ImpactThe specifics of the trade haven't been announced yet, but a long night of rumblings ended up paying off. It'll be interesting to see how Iginla fits into the mix as he'll be on a better team but might not get the same kind of opportunities in Boston.
Reports: Flames, Bruins close on Iginla trade | 03/27/2013 9:34 PM
NewsThe Flames and Bruins are very close to completing a Jarome Iginla deal, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.
Dan Tencer on Twitter
ImpactMcKenzie said on TSN that the deal, which has been relayed by sources close to the Bruins, is believed to be Iginla for 19-year-old center prospect Alex Khokhlachev, 24-year-old defenseman Matt Bartkowski and a first-round pick. For what it's worth, Calgary Herald columnist George Johnson also hears the same thing. Iginla is a healthy scratch Wednesday night, so it's not really a surprise to see that the trade is almost done.
Report: Jarome Iginla won't play Wed. night | 03/27/2013 7:53 PM
NewsJarome Iginla won't be in the Flames lineup Wednesday night, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.
Bob McKenzie on Twitter
ImpactMcKenzie says that this about "protecting the asset" and doesn't necessarily mean a deal is "imminent or close." This much is certain, though: it's only a matter of time before Iginla is packing his bags. The veteran has nine goals and 13 assists this season and would be a tremendous addition for any team trying to make its playoff push. The trade deadline is April 3, and it's conceivable to think that Iginla has played his last game in a Flames uniform.
Kings not likely to trade for Jarome Iginla | 03/27/2013 9:15 AM
NewsThe Los Angeles Kings might not be the most likely destination for Jarome Iginla.
Los Angeles Times
ImpactAlthough the Kings certainly have what it takes to get Iginla from a trade chips perspective, they might balk at what would almost certainly be a rental. Iginla's contract will expire this summer and Los Angeles isn't likely to be able to work in a contract extension under the cap. As it is they got an excess of restricted free agents that need to be re-signed including Slava Voynov, Kyle Clifford, and Jake Muzzin. Still, the Kings are reportedly on the shortlist of teams Iginla would accept a trade to, so they can't be ruled out.
Iginla trade rumors are unusually intense | 03/27/2013 8:04 AM
NewsEven for Jarome Iginla, the trade rumors swirling around him right now are different.
Impact"It's part of hockey," Iginla said. "I haven't been (the subject of) this much speculation since I started playing. But guys go through it all the time, every year at the deadline. And it's my turn." That's saying a lot because there's been speculation about the Calgary Flames trading Iginla for years. However, things are different now because Iginla will reportedly agree to a trade if it involves the Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, or Los Angeles Kings. His contract expires this summer, so this could be Calgary's last chance to trade him for a good return.
Iginla quiet in potential Chicago audition | 03/26/2013 11:38 PM
NewsJarome Iginla finished a minus-1 and recorded two shots in Calgary's lackluster 2-0 loss to Chicago on Tuesday evening.
ImpactIginla came into the game having tallied points in three of his past four games. It's been a disappointing year for the Flames and Iginla, as the 35-year-old captain has just 22 points in 31 games. He's been rumored to be involved in a number of trades, so it wouldn't come as any surprise if he were dealt by next week's deadline. Chicago is reported to be one of the teams Iginla would waive his no-trade clause for.
Jarome Iginla trade rumors rampant in Calgary | 03/26/2013 6:56 AM
NewsThe biggest question in Calgary seems to be: Where will Jarome Iginla be traded to?
ImpactThere are four teams that Iginla, who is in the final year of his five-year/$35 million contract, will reportedly agree to go to: Boston, Pittsburgh, Chicago and Los Angeles. With the Penguins just dealing for Brenden Morrow, it seems an unlikely landing spot now so Boston could be the leading candidate as they have plenty of young talent in the minors to deal. Stay tuned as this soap opera will not end until the trade deadline or Iginla, who has nine goals and 22 points in 30 games this season, is dealt away.
Jarome Iginla agrees to waive no-trade | 03/25/2013 5:35 AM
NewsJarome Iginla has reportedly agreed to be dealt to one of four NHL teams.
ImpactIginla is in the final year of his contract as he signed a five year extension in 2007 with a no-trade contract. Iginla has apparently given the Flames permission to seek a deal with one of Pittsburgh, Boston, Chicago and Los Angeles as he looks for his first Stanley Cup ring. Stay tuned as the trade deadline is only 10 days away.
Jarome Iginla scores winner against Blues | 03/24/2013 11:45 PM
NewsJarome Iginla scored the game-winning goal for Calgary in a 3-2 win over St. Louis Sunday.
ImpactWhether he ends up in a different uniform after the coming trade deadline or not, we're willing to bet Iginla can't wait for the next couple of weeks to be over. He deserves credit for playing a solid game despite the off-ice distractions he's currently dealing with. Roman Cervenka picked up a pair of goals and was the Flames brightest offensive star in the victory.
Columnist: It's time to trade Jarome Iginla | 03/24/2013 9:51 AM
NewsThe Calgary Flames must get aggressive and trade captain Jarome Iginla, Calgary Sun hockey writer Randy Sportak says.
Impact"The captain and face of the franchise could walk away after this season and sign as a free-agent elsewhere, and the Flames would have nothing to show for losing him," Sportak notes. "Granted, the return on a trade wouldn't be as good as could have been garnered a couple of years ago, but something is better than nothing. For his part, Iginla has every right to not accept a trade. However, his legacy in Calgary is already starting to take a beating from fans who don't believe he's giving his all on a nightly basis. Pulling a Mats Sundin and refusing a trade to help this organization going forward would taint it even more. Helping the Flames by leaving before the April 3 trade deadline would turn that."
Jarome Iginla scores despite bright spotlight | 03/22/2013 1:42 AM
NewsJarome Iginla scored a goal for the Flames, but the team dropped a 5-3 decision to Nashville on Thursday.
ImpactIt may be difficult for Iginla to keep his mind focused on the game with all the trade rumors swirling off the ice, but he put those concerns aside by registering a power play goal in the third period of the loss. Mark Giordano and Blake Comeau each scored shorthanded markers in the losing effort.
Trade rumors continue to follow Jarome Iginla | 03/21/2013 9:38 AM
NewsThe latest rumors have Calgary Flames captain Jarome Iginla destined to be traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers or Detroit Red Wings, according to today's Calgary Sun.
ImpactWith the NHL trade deadline less than two weeks away - it's April 3 -- Iginla, a pending unrestricted free-agent after this season, is certainly the biggest name circulating in the rumour mill, especially after the Anaheim Ducks re-signed Corey Perry this week. Surely it can't be easy blocking out the rumors for Iginla. "I don't find it hard," he insisted. "At the beginning, I said the reason (I didn't want to talk about rumours) is because it doesn't help the team. . .I'm going to stick to that and just focus on the games."
Jarome Iginla could be dealt by deadline | 03/12/2013 7:42 AM
NewsIt's looking more and more likely that Jarome Iginla could be traded by the Calgary Flames at or before the April 3 deadline.
ImpactThe Flames are languishing in last place and with Iginla eligible to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, he could go elsewhere. There have been no negotiations between the Flames and Iginla as Iginla has not given his agent Don Meehan the go-ahead to start talking with Calgary. Stay tuned as this story will not go away until Iginla signs or is traded by the deadline.
Iginla and Flames' curse in Anaheim continues | 03/09/2013 9:29 AM
NewsAfter dropping a 4-0 decision to the Ducks on Friday night, Jarome Iginla and the Flames have not won a game in Anaheim in their last 16 attempts.
Impact"Obviously it's not a good number for us how many times we've been here," Iginla said. "You know, I don't even remember winning here." If the Flames are searching for silver linings they can point to the fact Iginla has been playing extremely well of late after struggling out of the gates and that goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff is now healthy after a knee injury cost him a few weeks of playing time. In addition, they don't have to travel to Anaheim again this season, which is certainly a relief.
Jarome Iginla keeps his hot streak going | 03/07/2013 12:36 AM
NewsAfter a disturbingly slow start to 2013, Jarome Iginla is now on a scorching pace.
ImpactIginla scored a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win against the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday. The power forward has two three-game point streaks in the last seven games, scoring six tallies and three helpers in that span. The Flames captain has a history of slow starts, so hopefully you bought low on him.
Canucks-Flames could be canceled Sunday | 03/03/2013 4:06 PM
NewsA significant storm could end up canceling Sunday's game between the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames.
Eric Francis on Twitter
ImpactEric Francis reports that the Flames' plane hasn't departed for Calgary's airport, which is closed anyway. In the event that the game does happen, make note of the strange travel situation and maybe consider sitting fringe Flames if you need to bench someone on Sunday.
Missing O'Reilly might push Iginla to market | 03/01/2013 10:37 AM
NewsThe Calgary Flames attempt to get Ryan O'Reilly might have been about trying to keep Jarome Iginla.
ImpactIf Colorado had declined to match Calgary's offer sheet on O'Reilly, then he could have been a great center to pair up with Iginla. It might have also helped turned the Flames' fortunes around and enticed Iginla to re-sign with the team. As it is, Iginla might ultimately want to go elsewhere when his contract expires this summer so that he can play with a contender. If Calgary suspects that will happen, they might attempt to trade him before the deadline to avoid losing their star forward for nothing.
Jarome Iginla: We're embarrassed after choke | 03/01/2013 9:51 AM
NewsJarome Iginla said the Flames are embarrassed after blowing a 3-0 and 4-2 lead on Thursday.
Impact"That's as hard as any loss this year," Iginla said. "There's no way that should happen. We stopped skating. We did everything you talk about not going. You go into a shell. You shoot the puck away. We know we're supposed to play the same way, we talk about it, but we don't play the same way when we're up." The Flames wasted a two-goal night by Iginla. Calgary ranks 14th in the Western Conference with a 7-8-4 record.
Jarome Iginla lights lamp twice in loss | 03/01/2013 1:13 AM
NewsJarome Iginla sniped two goals in the Flames' 5-4 loss to the Avalanche on Thursday night.
ImpactThe Flames are still technically in it, but if they continue to fall out of contention, a productive Iginla will only help them come trade-deadline time, if they decide to move him. He has 15 points on the season. Mike Cammalleri and Jay Bouwmeester also had goals. Jiri Hudler set up three, and he has 13 points in 16 games.
Jarome Iginla picks up two goals in win | 02/25/2013 12:00 AM
NewsJarome Iginla scored twice as the Flames came back to defeat the Coyotes on Sunday night 5-4.
ImpactThe Flamers were down 4-3 with 1:22 remaining before Iginla scored his second (third of the season). Curtis Glencross got the game-winner with a minute left, and he also had an assist. Tim Jackman and Michael Cammalleri had the other markers. Alex Tanguay, Chris Butler and Lee Stempniak each picked up two assists apiece.
Iginla defends call not to respond to Lewis | 02/23/2013 10:30 AM
NewsJarome Iginla defended the fact that the Calgary Flames didn't stand up for goaltender Joey MacDonald when Los Angeles' Trevor Lewis crashed into him during Wednesday's contest.
Impact"That's a tough one," Iginla said. "In in a tight game - I think it was maybe 1-0 or 2-1 - we're getting a power-play to try to tie it up. The refs are going to look for it if you go over and hit him. I don't think that's the time to do it." The Flames couldn't capitalize on the opportunity and Lewis ended up netting the game-winning goal for the Kings. Either way, Iginla also acknowledged that Flames coach Bob Hartley is looking for the team to be grittier.
Jarome Iginla has only two goals in last 26 | 02/21/2013 7:08 AM
NewsJarome Iginla has found the back of the net only twice in his last 26 games.
ImpactThe streak goes back to last season as he has only one goal in 15 games this season. Iginla has 57 shots on goal this season for a 1.8 percent shooting percentage, 445th best in the NHL. Hopefully the good news is that Iginla is a streaky scorer, capable of scoring 8-10 goals in 5-6 games but he will need that type of streak to become fantasy relevant again. He will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, should the Flames not re-sign him so he needs to get it going if he hopes to get another big and longer term contract.
Jarome Iginla puts up strong effort in defeat | 02/21/2013 1:51 AM
NewsThe Calgary Flames lost 3-1 to the Los Angeles Kings, but captain Jarome Iginla at least helped owners out.
ImpactIginla had an assist and a stunning nine shot on goal. That puts the aging winger up to 57 SOG with just one tally to show for it. Maybe that's a sign that he doesn't "have it" any longer, yet it could mean he's also a solid buy-low candidate.
Iginla stays cold in Flames 4-0 loss | 02/19/2013 3:08 AM
NewsJarome Iginla was a -2 in the Flames 4-0 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes.
ImpactIginla is notoriously a slow starter but the Flames can ill afford to wait for his eventual surge with such a shortened season. Every game is so crucial, so it would be wise to sell on him now. He's 35 now so this could be father time showing a bit. Keep throwing him out there, but you're better off selling on him now.
Jarome Iginla gets an assist Friday | 02/16/2013 10:08 AM
NewsJarome Iginla registered an assist on Friday.
ImpactIt wasn't nearly as eventful a night as he had on Wednesday, but Iginla still has three points in his last two games. Overall, he has nine points in 12 contests in 2013, so this season hasn't been a disaster for fantasy owners, even if they typically expect far more goals out of him than the one he's scored so far.
Jarome Iginla fights, gets assists Wednesday | 02/14/2013 10:01 AM
NewsJarome Iginla got into a fight, had a roughing minor, and set up two goals on Wednesday.
ImpactIginla played a much more passionate game than we've seen out of him recently. Interestingly, his breakout immediately follows former teammate Rhett Warrener publicly questioning Iginla's "compete level." Iginla now has eight points and nine penalty minutes in 11 games this season.
Is Iginla losing his competitive edge? | 02/13/2013 9:33 AM
NewsJarome Iginla had his compete-level questioned by former teammate Rhett Warrener.
Impact"His greatest asset was his shot but more importantly his compete-level - his refuse-to-lose attitude - and now you are watching and . it's not there," said Warrener. "He's not Dany Heatley-slow, but he's not getting there. I don't know if he's slowed down and his compete-level has followed, but you don't see that compete and fire in his eye now. I think you see frustration setting in." Iginla has six points, but just one goal, in 10 games this season. Iginla has gotten off to slow starts before only to catch fire as the season progressed, but given that this is a shortened campaign, fantasy owners might not get the same level of pay off for their patience.
Jarome Iginla gets his first goal of 2013 | 02/06/2013 9:54 AM
NewsJarome Iginla scored his first goal of the season on Tuesday.

Jarome Iginla still hasn't scored this year | 02/03/2013 11:33 AM
NewsJarome Iginla has yet to find the back of the net in six games this season.
ImpactIt's easy to look at his stat line of zero goals and four assists and assume that the 35-year-old has lost a step, but the peripheral stats tell us another story, as do the scouting reports. The Flames' captain has fired 25 shots on goal, including five in Saturday's loss to Chicago, and has generated a number of excellent scoring opportunities in the process. Use his poor luck as an opportunity to acquire him at a reasonable price.
Iginla pitches in assist | 02/03/2013 7:17 AM
NewsJarome Iginla pitched in his fourth assist of the season in the Flames' 3-2 shootout loss to the Blackhawks Saturday night.
ImpactAt 35, Iginla is still a great player and the leader of Calgary's offense, however, with the Flames' mediocre supporting cast, 0.66 points per game (4 assists in 6 games) is probably where he'll stay throughout the year. He still logs major minutes, he's still be the best fantasy option on his team, but with the Flames' 29th ranked offense, he's no longer elite.
Jarome Iginla playing well despite no goals | 01/28/2013 7:39 AM

ImpactIginla has assists in his last three games after being held off the scoresheet in the opener and leads the Flames with 19 shots on goal. He has always been a goal scorer so don't panic as Iginla will still get his fair share this season. The Flames will struggle to make the playoffs at best, so if they fall out of the race, do not be surprised to see Iginla's name being prominently mentioned in trade rumors as he is scheduled to become a UFA at the end of the season.

NewsJarome Iginla and the Calgary Flames have decided to keep private the contract negotiations between the two sides.

ImpactCanucks GM Jay Feaster said it was for "precautionary reasons." We'll err on the side of caution and list him as day-to-day for now. Iginla hasn't missed a game since 2006-07, but he is 35 years old.
Flames will discuss Iginla's future next week | 01/10/2013 10:40 AM
NewsThe Calgary Flames will discuss their plans for Jarome Iginla early next week.
ImpactIginla is 35 years old and will become an unrestricted free agent this summer, so many believe the Calgary Flames should trade him for prospects or picks this season. That being said, Flames GM Jay Feaster will probably say that he has no plans to trade Iginla and maybe even announce his plans to re-sign him. The fans and media won't buy it and the rumors will persist.
Jarome Iginla's contract status in question | 01/08/2013 9:04 AM
NewsThe new CBA has yet to be ratified officially and the games won't be played until later in the month but Jarome Iginla's contract status with the Calgary Flames is already a hot-button issue.
ImpactIginla, the face of the franchise and the Flames' all-time leading scorer, is in the final year of his contract and due to become an unrestricted free-agent after the coming season. Considering his age - 35 - and where the team is in terms of Stanley Cup contention - long shot - the question of his plans is a biggie. "I didn't expect that question so early. Yeah, it's right back at it," Iginla said Monday after skating with teammates in Calgary. "I'm really just excited to get playing again and have that opportunity to play in the NHL and compete here in Calgary. It would be my preference to stay here, for sure, and play on a good team, which I believe we will be, and to win here. It is home."
