Flame Paul Byron seeking to seize opportunity | 09/14/2013 9:24 AM
NewsThe Calgary Flames are looking for a productive season from center Paul Byron.
ImpactThe speedy 24-year-old started last season playing on a line with Jarome Iginla and Curtis Glencross when he was slashed and broke his left hand - on his fourth shift in. He had surgery and had pins put in but they weren't put in properly and the procedure needed to be redone. "And while that happened, they put one of the pins through a tendon," Byron said. "So, after everything was done correctly, it was a little bit of a longer process because of all the swelling in my hand." When the Flames started spiralling toward a fourth consecutive season without playoffs, trades began happening, changes were visible, and - most notably for Byron - opportunities were to be had. In the end, the Ottawa native collected 15 points in 38 games for Abbotsford of the AHL and was summoned for three of Calgary's final four games of the season and had an assist. ""But I'm in camp now and I'm going to seize this opportunity," Byron said.
