Gettin' Close!
NHL preseason almost here...
It's September and that means one thing. No, not that it's back to school time. Nor that it's the last full month of the Major League Baseball season. But rather, that the NHL gets back into gear with camps and the start of its preseason schedule!

PLAYER NEWS

Patrick Wiercioch, D
Ottawa Senators
2010/09/03:  Patrick Wiercioch is looking forward to attending his first Senators' training camp. Wiercioch has an outside shot of making the Senators' opening day roster, but he'll probably start the season in the minors. "I'm definitely excited about it," he said. "Whether I make the team or not, I'm pushing to earn one of those spots." Wiercioch signed with the Senators after recording 27 points and 34 penalty minutes in 39 games with Denver University last season. (Source: Ottawa Citizen)

Jared Cowen, D
Ottawa Senators
2010/09/03:  Jared Cowen will have a tough time making the Senators' opening day roster. Ottawa's top five blueliners seem to be locked in and Chris Campoli and Brian Lee will probably end up serving as the team's sixth and seventh defensemen. That being said, Cowen might be able to change all that with a strong showing at Ottawa's training camp. Cowen was selected ninth overall by the Senators in the 2009 entry draft. If he doesn't make the team, Cowen will spend the season in the Western Hockey League. (Source: Ottawa Citizen)

Michael Del Zotto, D
New York Rangers
2010/09/03:  Michael Del Zotto would like to be more consistent defensively and with the man advantage this season. Del Zotto got off to a hot start in 2009-10 with 12 points and a plus-3 rating in his first 14 games, but he got cold in November and December. He had a mediocre eight points and a horrid minus-20 rating in 26 games over those two months. He was streaky throughout the season, but he finished with an impressive nine goals and 37 points in 80 contests. It was his rookie season and it's not like it's the first time we've seen a rookie deal with consistency issues. He should get less streaky as he matures, but in the short-term, we don't think Del Zotto will do quite as well offensively this season. (Source: The Bergen Record)
